I’d give it a thumbs sideways / Recommend to specific people.
The artwork is so cute! I came across this game because I follow bitMOO on twitter and immediately was intrigued. It looks fantastic and is a choose-your-own-adventure game, what’s not to like!?
Let me say it’s very short and simple. Half of my gameplay was speeding through text I’d already read before. It gets repetitive very quickly. After a couple 5-10 minute games I was already getting repeats and unfortunately the solutions always stay the same. So not only will you get the same scenarios, but you’ll soon figure out the correct answers. I’d choose other options just to mix it up and add more fun, but often I’d pick the correct answer first time around and then purposefully screw myself over just to see what would happen. Then I’d exhaust the one or two other options quickly and go back to memorising them again (which isn’t hard because there’s limited options like I said).
Basically it’s much shorter and simpler than I expected it to be. I think playing it with kids would be a blast, hearing their own added commentary. You can also play 2 player (local co-op), making it more personal. As it stands if you play singleplayer the AI picks randomly each turn, so they will sometimes pick the same events. In my one playthrough they picked the same location 3 turns in a row and often picked the same events as well. Maybe I was particularly unlucky.
I would recommend it if you have kids (or are an adult) who enjoy this kind of thing, especially on sale. It’s more like a picture book (of which I’m a huge fan of!) than a full-fleshed game imo. The fairy tale humour is childish and illustrations are adorable with some charm! The game itself just doesn’t offer nearly enough variety, but I could see how it’d appeal to some. I was honestly super duper excited going into this and unfortunately I’m left feeling disappointed that I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as I’d hoped. I was expecting to be blown away. Get it? :D
I noticed this game a couple of days ago. The artwork is very cute.
That looks so cute!! It’s sad that the game is way simpler than you expected, I think i’ll keep an eye on it maybe if it passes in a bundle, but thanks for the warning about it being way too simple ;)
It really is so cute, worth checking out at a discount. :)
This looks really cute indeed :D I think sometimes games like this are not meant to played over and over again to exhaust the content, but rather for few times to discover few distinct lines. Or at least few times at a time, and then maybe few other runs at a later date.
Yeah I completely agree! It’s how I enjoyed The Yawhg, a similar game. I can see why some people would love it still played in short bursts. And really spread out the repetiveness wouldn’t have mattered as much. I should have adjusted when I realised how the game was, learned my lesson. :)
Definitely looks like a nice play-it-with-the-kids title! Hadn’t even heard of it before, so thanks for the review! :)
p.s. url for the image in the header should be “app” rather than “apps” :)
Thought it was worth giving it some more exposure since haven’t heard anyone speaking of it. It really is a cute concept. And oops thanks for letting me know. :)
