This month is a rather good month in terms of game completion. Even though I’ve started way more games than before due to spring cleaning, I still felt great which is nice in contrast to last month. :3 I’ll probably join Challenge Me and Monthly Theme again next month since those are fun when I actually have motivation.

I just won this game 2 days ago(thanks takk <3) and since I've been trying to win it for a while now(including joining PA giveaways) I decided to play it today.
In this game you repeat the same day over and over again and try to save all the guests one by one. The concept is not new but I don't think I've ever played a game like it(I never found it that appealing). Turns out I really enjoy it, and it's a fantastic way to present a convoluted story with many events that happen simultaneously. And you really get the exploration and accomplishment feel as you explore the mansion and discover each guest's pathing, dialogue and way of death. The game also provides 3 kinds of collectibles(cards, invitations and location information) that's really fun for a completionist like me. And the story actually got me choked up and a bit teary eyed at the end. It feels a lot like the way To the Moon built up its story with gradual information hinting and then the big drop, although it isn't as much of a emotional bomb since most of the time I was busy solving puzzles and saving other guests so wasn't really invested in it. Oh and the background musics of this game is great! And I really like it that when you go near a murder event that's about to happen the music starts building up and eventually drops with whatever corresponding noise caused by the death.
I do have some complaints for the game tho. The biggest is the game has very serious input lag for me. Most of the times when I want to open the door I have to click several times, and sometimes it'll get stuck and just won't freaking open the door, resulting me having to click for like 10 to 15 seconds before it decides to let me through. The camera also sometimes doesn't follow my character to the next room, so I'll have to blindly walk around and wait for it to realize it and fix itself. If it weren't for these issues this game would rate much higher(9 or 9.5) since I loved all other things about the game. And it's not just happening to me according to google. A shame indeed. AIso I would've liked if they let us choose the next guest to rescue instead of designating the target. I think that would make it even better with more freedom as we get to pick and choose which person we want to rescue next, although it would break a little bit of the narrative since there's group targets. Even though the game did do a really good job separating guests using powers. In a sense it feels kinda like a metroidvania cuz you get powers to unlock more areas and revisit old areas with new power to get stuff.

This is a Challenge Me game. I have heard good things about the game, and perhaps that got my expectations up? In the end I didn't find the game that impressive, aside from its gameplay concept.
The gameplay consists of super jump, super leap, grappling hook and rocket boost. It's actually pretty fun to grapple and fly in the air. I would highly recommend using mouse and key board tho, since aiming the crosshair for grappling is much easier than controller(which I used for most of the game), especially in the ice cave chapter. I ended up switching to mouse and key board at certain parts just to make my life easier. Another thing is super leap is very inconsistence with controller, so it kinda got me mad a few times. Other then that complaint the gameplay is ok.
The story however, is really boring and shallow. I understand that cuz it's supposed to be a bedtime story told to a little girl, but it's still really boring. Characters are one dimensional, voice acting is meh, and plot is non-existence. The village is supposed to feel lively with all the frog people hanging around and chatting right? But I just felt like they were lifeless props. Perhaps due to their models? The only good thing about the story is there's some interesting environments that looked very cool when you're flinging around the place.
Overall, the game is kinda a disappointment. It's not a bad game really, but just a meh game. Plus it's really really annoying that most of the achievements are no death or challenge ones. I decided not to go for more after giving it a decent try, especially since you can't skip the story parts so every time you fail you'll have to listen to Maddie talk all over again.

I finally finished this game! The final achievement took me a while to get, even though I've finished the game several months ago.
This is the only real typing "game" I've ever played so I have no idea if I'd like it or not going into the game. You fight monsters off typing in this game, and I must say as I get further into the game it gets really challenging. Especially the last few insect's nest. They are impossible for me! I tried several times but failing at the very long words monster every time. In the end I used the aaaa workshop item to get past it. My only problem with gameplay is that at one point my game got bugged(potentially cuz one time I was playing the game and my laptop battery ran out?) and my words count got subtracted a lot, so I didn't have enough words typed to unlock the next area. I ended up having to grind monsters that spawn when you enter an area for a long while, which is really annoying.
Story wise tho, I was pretty confused. Don't really understand a whole lot expect that the girl likes to write and is an engineer and went to work at a lot of construction sites? I did enjoy the random convo story bits tho. It's like small breaks in between solving puzzles and fighting monsters. Voice acting is also pretty on point, which makes it more enjoyable.
I "played" this game before when I was searching up quick 100% free games, but didn't really play it for real. Since I saw that a bunch of achievement got added I decided to actually play it since I've always been trying to get into VN(but always seems to be picking the wrong ones to play) cuz I like reading so I imagine I would like VN.
I'll say that my feeling for this game is torn. Let's talk about the good first. I think this game's writing is pretty alright in that at important moments, I did feel emotional. And I think the internal dialogue of protagonist helped a lot in that(although they sometimes feels pretentiously poetic). My favorite moments are the one with your sister and the one with Lillian(that's basically 2 of the 3 emotional ones lol). I've grown to like some characters(although that could be because of the art), and also the art is nice. I especially love Lillian's design and certain cgs that just looks, artsy to me? In particular the one where she's looking up to the sky, and also the one where the background is yellow and she's in a silhouette.
Now on to the not so good. Some dialogues are just, not what normal people would say or react. Like, the game tried to hide the truth with giving out vague as hell dialogues and although I kinda understand at the end when it's all revealed, I don't think it's a good story telling and I was yelling at the game internally throughout my playthrough to be more clear. Another thing is the relationship Mark has with other people is weird. Perhaps it all comes to the anime-like aspect of it? It all felt very floaty and fake. Refer to the "it's not what normal people is like" part. With his sister, perhaps I don't really understand it cuz I don't have siblings but it feels like they have a love hate relationship, and they say they're close but doesn't seem close? For example, at one point your sister kicks you in the temple, and I understand the joking relationship between them but normally you would show some concern no? But she didn't. Another one is Mark's relationship with Lukas. I know that because of spoiler involved thingys they will kinda be in a rivalry type deal? But before all of that they keep saying they are "friends" but I don't feel like they are. Especially when Lukas tells Mark he wants to talk to him for something, and then Mark's reply is like: you don't normally talk to me so what's up. Idk, it just feels weird to me. Finally, why did Mark "fall for" Myra only like, two weeks after confessing to Lillian? Love doesn't fucking work like that. Especially that Mark's internal dialogues make me feel like he's just lost the whole world and then quickly comes back like nothing happened. I would love if Lillian's story and Myra's story are separated, because they make good stories on their own.
In conclusion, I still don't know if I like VNs or not, but I'm leaning towards yes, when I'm in the mood. This one is alright I'd say, definitely worth the free price that it's at. I should really just play some actual good VNs that I have instead of these. lol(looks at tsuper's VN masterpost)
BLAEO review finder
This is still there btw. :P I’m just paying much less attention to it now. But I’m still adding my posts to it. See you next month~
Great choice of games. Apart from Sepia Tears all on my radar as well. I really should finally play The Sexy Brutale, heard a lot of good stuff about it.
cuz I like reading so I imagine I would like VN.
Haha, yeah, I feel the same way, but never really got into them either. Definitely trying them again at some point though.
I wish you a happy gaming June :)
Sexy Brutale is great! If it weren’t for control issues it would rate very high on my chart. It got me thinking about it days after finishing it, which is a good sign that it’s a fantastic game. :3
I’ve found that I need to be in a special, more patient and slow mood to want to sit down and start a VN. Kinda like with books where you’ll want to read one at a sunny afternoon.
Thanks! You too. :D
10-15 seconds is way too much. Input lag is a thing in the game since there is no or at least almost no loading screens, so doors will take A BIT (like 2 seconds max) to be opened. I didn’t have any problem with the game if you talk about performance. Maybe is about hardware and optimization.
Anyway, I agree with that is a good game, I had it in my library for a long time till people recommended me to play it.
It’s most likely my laptop complaining to me out loud. xD Remember hearing its fan going wild when playing the game. It is a 4 years old laptop afterall. :P Tbh I don’t really mind the loading because it’s understandable, but combine the loading/input lag with sometimes it not registering my clicks made me had to click multiple times, which is the most annoying thing ever! The game’s really good tho. I like it. :3
Darn, I somehow completely missed the review finder before, or I would have added my completed games to it. Guess it’s never too late to do that though!
I also didn’t advertise it that much so it’s understandable. xP Keep in mind that I usually only look at the tables monthly when I add my post to it so if you’ve added something feel free to ping me somewhere. :3
Hey congrats on completing epistory. It’s sad that you encountered such an annoying bug but at least you managed to still complete everything. Now that you mention it, the story didn’t really mark me enough that I remember it years after playing it. I remember that it was about that girl and her fox having that adventure in a world that was somehow infested by monsters, but that’s pretty much it.
Thanks! It did took a long while of putting it aside but alas, I finally did it. :P As for story, even though you play as a girl riding on a fox, the “story” as in dialogues themselves don’t really reflect that. I think the girl on the fox is more of a metaphor? From the information that I collected with the dialogues, I can only guess that perhaps this paper world is where she lets her imagination fly, and it’s her own brain essentially. :3 Not sure but it’s my guess~
Oh yes, now that you say it, it sounds familiar (again, didn’t leave a great mark in my brain even tho i loved the game itself). Wasn’t there something about somebody trying to write a book too?
It did say the girl likes writing. :P Not sure about a book tho. The story also didn’t leave me with much impression. I can only vaguely make out what it’s telling.
