- Switch screenshots look bad because Nintendo won’t let me transfer high quality pics to my pc. I had to post them on Twitter and take a screenshot. It’s stupid.
Steam
Pros:
- Amazing detective game. I was surpised that I got so many people right by myself. I had to use some hints in the last 13 people. I only found 5 ocrew members with a guide.
- Interesting Story.
- Art style
Cons: - Gameplay hindered by its art style. I loved the art style, but it's not good for a detective game. What's the first thing you ask when you have to indentify a person? It's either skin, hair or eyes color. It's impossible to that in a monochromatic game. :/ Besides that, it makes a lot of characters look almost the same. This game didn't need this added difficulty. It's already difficult enough thanks to the way the story unfolds from the end to the beginning.
Minor games played:
Burly Man at Sea: It’s a very short game with a focus on multiple playthroughs to unlock different story paths. It’s not very good. I was bored after my second playthrough. I still got to a fourth one, but I couldn’t bring myself to play anymore.
Far from Noise: The whole game feels like an excuse to get you to read dialogue while you listen to the sound of nature. Rain and wave sounds are always appreciated. Dialogues are really good too. Unlike, Burly Man at Sea, I enjoyed the 2h I spent with this game.
Elegy for a Dead World: I expected something completely different when I read its steam page. It’s a game about writing stories and reading other people’s stories. However, UI is terrible. I couldn’t find anything and the achievements are completely crazy. You need to get 1000 people to read your story in each world, but there were only 2 people playing when I tried. TL;DR: Game is dead and devs are crazy.
Non-Steam
Pros:
- It's really easy to get sucked into the story.
- Interesting characters. I loved most of them, but the fish cutting guy really got me T_T
- Quite easy + good visuals
- Unlike most walking sims, this game added a lot of gameplay to keep you engaged and not just reading. It's a game, not a book afterall.
Cons:
- A bit short, but since I got it for free, it wasn't an issue for me. Full price is a bit too much.
And here’s the where I spent all my free time this month:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Finally completed this game after 105h!
Let me start by saying that Ocarina of Time is my favorite game ever and this game got really close to top it. It was also my first Zelda since Majora’s Mask, which I didn’t like very much.
Unlike previous Zelda games, it’s an open world game. I’ve played thousand of open world games - 10 ACs, Far Cry, both Mordor games, etc, etc -, but I’ve never experienced such freedom in a game. I think, I finally get why people love open world games. I mean, you still have to defeat Ganon and save Zelda, as always, but in this game
Because you can climb, swim and walk literally everywhere.
Unlike previous open world games, towers aren’t there just to unlock a part of the map. Since the game doesn’t add icons on the map, you have to use these vantage points to find all the hidden things in the map, and trust me, there are a lot of interesting things hidden all over the place.
Combat was really good. Controls are very tight and the fact that the weapons break, means that I had to try a lot of options and think about which weapon I was gonna use against every enemy, even trash mobs. It’s good to break this tradition of owning 1000 weapons while only using 1-2 in games.
TL;DR: This is definitely the best game I’ve played in a decade. It’s clearly a system seller. If you have a chance to buy/rent/borrow a Switch, you must play this game. Honestly, I can’t remember the last game I played for more than 100h just because I refused to put it down. Even after 100%’ing it, I still feel like booting this game up. I gotta be strong and stop myself because my backlog can’t take more hits like that. >.<
PS: I got both Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Octopath Traveller. Anyone has played any of them? I don’t know which one I should start next. xD
PPS: I almost forgot. I’ve also been playing a lot of Dota Auto Chess. It’s a custom game inside dota 2 that is a lot of fun, even if you never tried Dota 2.
Thanks for the heads up about Elegy for a Dead World. And I really wanted a picture of Lord Byron as an achievement! Obra Dinn seems interesting.
Yeah. Both the game and the acheivs looked good, but the devs are out of their mind… :/
Obra Dinn is really good if you like detective games and have a good eye because it’s really difficult to find those people in black and green xD
Congrats for completing Breath of the Wild. I have 85 hours and I still need to beat Ganon and I believe I am far from getting the 100% :’ ) but I won’t aim for that so I am kinda safe, I guess.
Also, it’s nice to see that you have a positive look on the weapon breaking system. I was less positive xD as it kinda annoyed me at times. Especially when I was struggling to find good weapons back. But it’s true that it was fun to try all sort of weapons because nothing was a waste and everything was useful at some point.
About Xenoblade Chronicles 2 or Octopath Traveller, both are pretty neat in their respective category. Octopath is more classic though with that old looking style and game play. I believe it’s fairly easy to get into it, at least to me, but I am not very far. While Xenoblade is more modern and to me, felt a lot more complicated to play (if you want to understand how to play). Worst part is that now after setting it aside for a while, I can’t even get back into it easily. Xenoblade, to me, requires a lot of commitment and dedication. If you’re not ready to spent the next xxx hours playing it regularly, you might end up like me. Putting it aside and then having a hard time getting back into it thus pushing it back again into the backlog (and repeating that cycle for eternity? xD).
Ganon fight was a bit disappointing tbh. If you freed the 4 divine beasts he starts the fight with half health. It should take long to finish him.
I heard that a lot from friends, but I always had 5-6 extra weapons in my inventory. I was mostly using Lynel and Guardian weapons because they’re the best. (Even better than the master sword, which is a bit weird xD)
I might go with Octopath. I wanna relax and play a game on handheld while lying in bed. By your comment, it seems Octo is a better fit. Thanks for the help.
Yep Octopath is a pretty great choice to kick back and relax. While it doesn’t feel like a grand game, if you played some older RPG games, with turn by turn combat, nostalgia should kick in pretty fast!
Thanks for making me aware of that challenge. I might give it a go.
Yw! Have fun!
I really loved BotW at the beginning. The most fun was how to solve the puzzles without using the obvious way. I used far too many baloons xD The visuals are outstanding. The fact that you can see ganons tower from everywhere blew my mind. And I’m so in love with Sidon!
But the more I progressed the more I missed the feeling I had at the start. At some point I started to feel like I have “discovered” everything - maybe not every shrine but all the stuff which made the game so amazing and it kind of lost it’s magic.
I truely hate the fight against Ganon if you defeated the other four before him. The more I played the more I missed the usual Zelda-style :/ Anyways I think it’s definately a must-played game for Switch or WiiU but still overrated. They focused too much on the open world than what actual represents a Zelda game.
But wow! Congrats to 100%! o.O I managed to beat every shrine but I couldn’t find every korok. Very impressive!
I cannot say anything about Xenoblade as I do not own this but I had pretty fun with Octopath Traveler even though I haven’t finished it yet. It’s a great game but gets repetitive. So maybe you could start with that and switch between them both? At least I’m doing it this way :’D
The first 10-20h were definitely the best. I loved how the balloons work in this game. xD I love how everything just work in this game. I was almost dying in Lanayru Range, without anything to warm to wear, even with a flame sword equipped, I was gonna die. There were no trees around to create a fire, I thought I was done, until I started throwing fire weapons into the ground and it worked. I felt so smart. xD
Yeah, I didn’t like that as well. Ganon starting with half health isn’t fun. 3 Urbosa’s fury and he was dead.
I do agree that they if they had cut the number of korok seeds by half and used that extra dev time for the story/dungeons it would have been a better game. 900 is just too many… I almost lost it when I got my “last one” and saw in the menu that I had 897. T_T
Hmmm. I don’t like to play 2 games at once, I’ve tried that and I always end up abandoning both games. :/
