End of an era.
I finally have a new PC. Almost everything except the PSU (which luckily is doing well) is something new, and it really has been a long time since a proper upgrade. My first motherboard for this CPU died a long time ago, I had an old HDD fail me years ago, and most tragically my GPU died and I had to use a cheap, low-end OEM replacement. The part that lasted me the longest was my CPU and I’m really thankful it served me so long. It wasn’t going to handle new titles, but it still held on in less demanding games and I could still browse the web fine. I bought it in 2012 and I did not expect a mid-tier part to still be quite usable ten years later in 2022.
Small comparison:
Hardware | Old | New |
---|---|---|
CPU | Phenom II X4 960T | Ryzen 5 5600X |
Motherboard | Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 | Asus PRIME B450M-A II |
RAM | 16GB DDR3 @1333Mhz | 16 GB DDR4 @3200Mhz |
SSD | N/A | WD Blue SN570 M.2 NVMe 500GB |
HDD | WD Green 1TB | WD Blue 2TB |
GPU | GT 630 2GB DDR3 (downgrade from Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 1GB that died earlier) | Sapphire PULSE RX 6600 8GB |
I’d like to think I’m not too demanding, so this one should last me for quite some time, especially since 1920x1200 is already large enough to me and 4K still seems so alien and far away to me. For now, I’m just thinking of the present. Among other things, it’s about time I gave Doom 2016 a proper go.
*very fast doshing*
Wow congrats dude!!!!
Meow?
That’s what a 𝓌𝑒𝑒𝒷 would say
A 𝓌𝑒𝑒𝒷 would say nya
Yeeee. Congrats :D
I saw that parts prices started to drop now, GPUs only for their MSRP! When my PC from 2020 breaks in 2 or 3 years I hope GPUs will be below MSRP :hehe:
Congrats on the new PC enjoy, I got a feeling that my motherboard might be on its legs too going to look into to see if theses some common signs to it
