Main Quest #149 - 24 April 2021
This month I decided to focus on an unfinished long game, and this was it! My keyboard is messed up, so I went with a gamepad game, but my keyboard replacement is finally arriving this monday.
It was nice returning to Kamurocho after starting this game in November 2019. (Time flies, apparently.) This one was a good game and I’m a fan of the franchise even when I had only played Zero. I’m really happy that the whole franchise is now available on PC and can’t wait to play more of it (I already own Kiwami 2, so I guess I’ll play it “soon” enough!
Congrats on finishing this. I still have pending to start with the series, and everyone says they are very good games. So it’s better to start with Zero, or with Kiwami?
Not OP but as a huge fan of the series I’ve been thinking about this question a lot. There are some pros and cons and in the end it depends on you I guess since you can easily find people who says “this one is better played first” about each game. (I personally played Kiwami first, 0 second.)
So chronological order is 0> K>K:2>3>4>5>6 but release order is 3>4>5>0>K>6>K:2. So you’ll only see callbacks to 0 in K,K:2 and 6. You will see a lot of important characters in 0 but they might not mean anything to you since you don’t know anything about them and they kinda assume you do know about them already. Same point could be applied to Kiwami too, since it’s a remake of the original game. Although a bit unrealistic, optimal order would be starting with the original ps2 game and then starting with 0 and going from there. Oh also most people says 0 is the best entry in the series so it might set the bar too high for you.
To sum it up, both games assumes you played the other one already, but imo 0’s story is dependent on kiwami characters. All in all, I’m happy that I started with Kiwami first but it should be OK to start with 0.
Damn, that sounds overly complicated!! Thank you so much for this insight, I will think about it, because I want to play one of them in next backlog batch :D
It will be a long journey but it’s the best time to start the series if you are a PC/Xbox player. Feel free to message me to ask further questions or just to discuss the game, I love talking about it. Have fun!
