October 2021 Update
Next update (works only on profile page)
- nice, dynamic combat
- environmental destruction
- good variety of enemies
- we receive small aircraft quite early which cuts travel time a lot
The bad
- GAME BREAKING BUG IN MAIN PLOT LINE THAT WAS NOT ADDRESSED SINCE GAME RELEASE
- graphical issues that require manual file edit
- invisible NPCs during cut-scenes and clipping textures in some spaces
- open world filled with endless copy pasta fetch quests
- uninteresting story
Conclusion:
This was so nice game, until I decided to go on holiday before finishing last mission. How can you have game breaking bug in main story line, that is prevalent among players, and not fix it? Ugh.
Story:
It's not possible to fight evil army on our own, so we contact old buddies of our dead mentor. They give us some simple fetch quests that show our "persistence and devotion", and allow them to finish their pieces of the Project Dagger - plan to kill evil general and bring peace. Game get unplayable right before last mission so I could not see the ending. But it was supposed to be assault on enemy base and use some gene editing technology to kill "immortal" general.
Gameplay:
💸 Microtranzactions | Weapon skins and cars can be bought with real money. | 🏆 Achievements | Not supported on Epic. |
📊 Performance | No issues | 💾 Save system | There is manual save but it saves progress to latest check point only. |
🌍 Map | Clear and easy to navigate. But as other open world games it's filled with useless fetch quests. Kill bandits in this camp, kill this mutant, destroy some solar panels. At least flying aircraft we get quite early on allows us to fly above all this junk without interacting. |
🎮 Controls | Game plays a bit like Doom, only in more open locations. We run around, shoot, jump on enemies. Controls are precise and fluid. There is a bit of jumping around to find chests with money or weapon upgrade parts. I have a bit of issue with using special abilities though, as it's the same button as the one for dodging. Short press of a button makes us use dodge, and long press turn on focus mode that allows use special abilities. So I was entering focus mode instead of using dodge. So I stopped to use dodge altogether. |
📇 Inventory | No inventory. We can swap weapons and their skins. Vehicles are summoned from the menu. We have two currencies. Cash (used to buy general items) and feltrite (asteroid origin, allows us to buy weapon or abilities tier upgrades). Feltrite is also used to heal us, so if found in combat will fill our health bar, and when health is at 100% it will be deposited as cash. So it's like healing cash xD Unlocking abilities / weapon tiers with feltrite makes them stronger. |
🏹 Weapons | Most often I've been using basic assault rifle or shotgun. There is also handgun, rocket launcher, railgun, revolver etc. but they did not feel like an upgrade. More like something to fill space on the weapon selection wheel. Weapons have few tiers that are unlocked with feltrite, and then we need weapon upgrade points to upgrade specific modifier. |
🕵️♀️ Abilities | There is overdrive as special that makes us deal more damage and regenerate health. Power push and jump-slam that can kill lesser enemies in one hit, singularity that can pull enemies towards it (rather useless) and charge. There is dash but I rarely used it as button for it is the same as for using other abilities. Which made me missing my dodges more often than not. Feltrite is used to upgrade higher ability tiers, and inside tiers we have couple ability modifiers that can be bought with ability points. |
🤖 Companion and enemy AI | Enemies are dumb. They just go to you in straight a line and try to kill you. There is not much variety to them as well. Sometimes it's easier to kill large semi-bosses as they move slowly and it's easy to avoid their attacks with jet pack than mobs. We don't have companions. |
🥊 Combat | Combat is similar to Doom. Fast and brutal. Enemies feel a bit bullet spongy or it's because I played it on hard difficulty. On average they require two shots from a shotgun, series with assault rifle or power punch to be killed. Enemies with armor are a bit pain to deal with as they firstly need to be strip from it. Which takes bit of time with something else than shotgun. There is boomerang that I was never using as I found it doesn't flow well with otherwise running around and shoot / punch enemies gameplay. Enemies drop health so it's important to keep running around and killing targets. Trying to stay in place and snipe enemies lead to fast death especially early in the game. |
Technicalities:
Music - ⭐️⭐☆ - Ambient and not really memorable
Bugs - ⭐️☆☆ - Aaaaa. How can you have plot breaking bug left in the game. And they introduced it with some DLC
- really nice graphic
The bad
- hardly playable in remote play
- no online co-op
- video codecs makes game unplayable on old PCs
- game requires Origin to run in background and it leads to game crashing for some people
- 1st game was nice puzzle game but here puzzles are barely there
Conclusion:
Game is promoted as co-op game and still lacks online co-op. Only couch is available. It's also unplayable on older PCs due to the way cutscenes are shown, and Windows / CPU can't support them.
Story:
Gameplay:
💸 Microtranzactions | None | 🏆 Achievements | Some collectibles and no-death related runs. |
📊 Performance | Unplayable on PCs from 10 years ago albeit being extremely basic in gameplay. | 💾 Save system | Automatic check points. |
🎮 Controls | There was clear lag between character moving and pressing the button but it was due to game problems with remote play. Normally in single player game plays without lag and controls are responsive. |
🕵️♀️ Abilities | In 1st game we had to move between specific points that were giving us more yarn to progress. Here yarn is infinite as it doesn't need to be tied to anything. We can use it as lasso, make bridges, climb etc. But fact that we don't need to calculate how much yarn we have left is a lazy solution. |
🤖 Companion and enemy AI | There are no companions or enemies. We either play on our own or with other player. |
Technicalities:
Music - ⭐️⭐☆ - some basic background noises
Bugs - ⭐️☆☆ - unplayable on older PCs and problems with remote play
Side note
October was busy. I visited my parents, I organized Bday and prepared for interview. This update should be sent 3 weeks ago but I passed the interview and I will be changing job \o/. So there was a lot paperwork, tying up things at work etc. I will be starting +/- in 2 weeks. It’s weird time at my work as literally at the same time another supervisor and team leader is leaving. So some part of work will be left with skeletal team.
But oh well. We can’t think if they will manage without us, we need to look on ourselves. Esp when it looks like fast track promotions are given to friends and family, and changes that should be done to help with production take ages to even be considered. There is literally one guy that just follows his wife and just chat to people. He was not even officially promoted yet but he’s already away from the production floor.
