Not much to say about this:
Best thing in the “game” are backgrounds.
Why did I put game between quotation marks, one may ask.. well, that’s because this is NOT a game.
Do not let it fool you as it fooled me.
There is no gaming component; yes, you move your character around but that isn’t enough to make this a game.
The goal of this game — ok, let’s call it this way to make things simpler — is to write stories/poems ..they could even be elegies.. I don’t know.
Anyway, you move your character around (linearly forward, no free roaming) and get to write a new sentence (or complete the blanks in it, if you start with a template) each time you reach a feather.
There are 3 “worlds”, every world gives you different templates to write your poems. I guess you can even go wild and start writing from zero something completely unrelated to their templates and backgrounds, didn’t tested how many chars you’re allowed to input though.
There are also 3 achievement, one per world. You unlock one when a poem you wrote in that world gets 1000 commendations, which are basically “like” from other players. Yes, from other player. ONE. FUCKING. THOUSAND. And you can’t do shit to earn them, because you can also write a masterpiece but I doubt 1000 players will ever read and upvote it. It’s not up to you to unlock them. So much game -_-
I wrote and published mine, perhaps my grandchildren will get to see these achievement unlocked. Or maybe it’s better if I hone my english skill as I’m in no condition to write anything “publishable” =P
This is not a complete disaster, I think it could do great in a literary community, but in a gaming one is destined to fail. Also, no way it’s worth 15€, whatever the community it may try to colonize.
Another (and last) sad note is that this was an sg win :(
Yes, it’s a -1 to the backlog but not in the way I would have liked to :(
started this for the monthly theme as well. But could not motivate myself to write more than one story in one of the worlds. I had other expectation for this “game”. And the fact, that you need 100 users rating 10 stories of yours is just too much. In the world I tried I saw that the Top 3 writings had 28,18 and 3 ratings.
Oh, this way it could be more feasible. Still close to impossible, but a little less. ..don’t know why I assumed one had to get all the 1000 with a single work! D:
Also, how do you know when you unlock the achievement? It could happen in the distant future.. does one have to constantly check in the game? Painful!
Hmm, I’m planning to play Elegy… for the monthly theme. I’m kinda aware that there’s not much interaction, I wonder how I’m going to (dis)like it.
The achievs suck big time btw, the devs must have been out of their freaking minds when they though it was a good idea O.o
How is it going?
Let me quote the dev:
The dream is that if you get that achievement, it’s a very real accomplishment as a writer that you should be extremely proud of.
I still think that they released the game in the wrong community :\
I’ve read their comment regarding the achievs and rolled my eyes, too. The game itself was alright though, even managed to write something kinda sorta decent, plus an easy game to beat for the monthly theme so that’s neat :)
I was actually excited for this “game” but hearing your story and info on the achievements is rather frustrating. I hate those kind of achievements. So sad :(
Me too :(
If you Love to write, you may like this. But at the same time you could write by yourself, share your works in reading/writing community and you’ll get a better feedback, a better result in general.
This idea could be (barely) good if you were to have writer’s block but it doesn’t feel like a finished product to me (for us gamers and our community). I mean, if they lived up things a bit, like a contest with prizes, even small ones, it could be a better experience. They could also ask at sg for help, there’s people who’s good at organizing contests =P
As it is now though, it’s very disappointing. The only thing it does is making more complicated the act of writing :\
never excited about basically impossible achievements.
Guess that’s a shared feeling :\
