September
As I talked about on my last post, I’ve been doing some carpentry. I decided to do a bookcase after failing to find one that would suit me for an affordable price. My brother helped me assemble it. (it’s a two man job - One to hold and another to nail it together) Plus I wouldn’t be able to get it to my bedroom alone - It’s much heavier than I thought. I’m really proud of it! Some pictures (sorry for potato quality):
Bonus pic: My old boxed pc games collection - Some of my favorites games: Age of Empires III + Expansions, Age of Mythology + The Titans, Battle for Middle-Earth I and II, Rise of Nations and my absolutely favorite: Warcraft III + The Frozen Throne.
Ps: I should have closed the courtain to take the pictures. Oops. xD
Pps: Don’t mind the random books/econ manuals everywhere. I’m not very organized.
Gaming:
September was incredibly productive gaming-wise. I played some long games with a few short ones in between. Both “Challenge me!” and “ABC Challenge” really helped me beat a lot of games, especially some I wouldn’t otherwise, like coin crypt - I hate roguelikes fuck permadeath - or Double Dragon that I started months ago, but never found the courage to actually finish before this month. So, thanks Ninglor03, BlueLightning42, Tristar and Escollo for all the challenges! My stats:
Month | Games played | SG wins beaten | SG wins | +/- Monthly SG Backlog | Total games beaten | +/- Total SG wins beaten in 2017 | SG wins beaten (%) |
Sep 2017 | 31 | 28 | 9 | 19 | 309 | 261 | 57% (up from 16%) |
I’ve decided to try something different: instead of just listing all the games, I’m gonna talk about 3-5 games that I enjoyed/hated the most. I’ll try to rate them, from 1 to 5 Doges. You can check the complete list here
This is more than a game, it's an amazing journey! Everything about this gem of a game is fantastic: the sound, the story and especially the art style. The only problem is that the game was made using Flash and steam overlay doesn't work well with it, therefore I had to take screenshots in the old way. I had add all the remaining Amanita Design games to my wishlist! xD
I hate horror games. I'm easily scared, but this game went really well. Mostly because it's not an horror game, despite the tag. It's a puzzle game with a sad (and just a little bit scary) story. It's really interesting.By mixing old typing mechanics, puzzles and decent story they made a good game.
The game is basically Knight of Pen & Paper on space, but less grindy. The addition to spaceship combat is great, especially considering you get xp and they're easier than normal battles. The scan is also better than using a pickaxe to get minerals. The writing is still good, with a bunch of jokes, puns and memes. There is a decent pool of classes, but I'd like a few more races. If you liked their first game, you'll enjoy this one as well. Both of them have similar flaws.
This game is the sequel to a browser game called Chibi Knight and also it's a one man job. One and half actually. A guy created this game with his 8 years old daughter - who btw, voices the main protagonist of this game. I'll let her explain the game:
It's been a while since a game has bored me to the point that I'd lose all my desire to play everything, but this game managed to accomplished just that. The game is EXTREMELLY repetitive. You get mission, choose party, go out to kill some monsters, wait 30 secs after killing to go back in order to get another mission and restart this loop. FOR 30 HOURS! I'm not that bad and I stopped doing side missions in the third difficulty and it still took me +30 hours to finish this game. Btw, you face the same enemies from start to finish, their stronger form is just a pallet swap of the usual monster, with fewer weak spots. The only good thing about this game is the combat. Finding the weak spots, blocking and evading at the right time, "learning the boss dance" is actually fun. However, even a fun combat can't make a boring game better. See Dragon's Dogma. xD
See you next month!
Congrats! It is pretty nice :) I like how there are different sizes and two colors
Thanks! Same sized boards are not fun at all! xD
I had a bunch of stuff I was going say but I’m going just chose two of them. I’m sooooryyyy that was a joke >_<
Is stories untold similar to Event[0]? I’m asking beacause I see a computer screen in the screenshots / you talked about old typing mechanics
also I shudder to think of how that giant list of games was if one of your favorites also made you bored to no end.
Stories Untold is an episodic game and in the first episode you play like those old rpgs that you have to type your actions like:
read book
go upstairs
pick key
You get the idea. The second and third episodes are closer to puzzle games with a scarry background story. The last episode is close to a walk simulator.
Sorry, I misexplained myself. The games I’ll talk a bit more deeply every month won’t always be the ones I liked the most, but the ones that affected me the most. In GODEATER’s case, it left a terrible impression on me. The only reason I played it for 30h+ is because it was a challenge and I had to finish it.
And to think I still have to play another 30 or so hours to finish the sequel. GabeN help me! T_T
Was this snakey black paint job planned, or it just “turned out this way? :D
It was planned. It was supposed to look like a word, but I’m not that good. xD
Oh. Like Life? Tho I’m not sure about “f” xD Others letters definitely look like L I E (it’s hidden message about cake? D:)
It’d be better visible if made with different colored paint. It may looked nice when it was empty, but now black book covers make it hard to notice pattern.
That was supposed to look like an R, not an F, but it was hard because of the curves of said letter and the books don’t help either. xD
I don’t know word LIRE, so it’d be hard to notice it without a poke ;P
But now I checked it on wiki dictionary and it means “read”. In French :O So it does have a lot of sense now :D
The word in portuguese (My first language) is only 3 words long (“Ler”), so I had to use my second language. xD
Oh wow your bookcase looks great, you’re right to be proud of it :)
Really happy to hear you enjoyed Botanicula and want to play their other games, that one is my personal favourite but they’re all worth playing for sure.
GODEATER sounds like my experience with Fight The Dragon this month, I just wanted it to end :P I hope the second game is more enjoyable for you.
Thanks! Botanicula is amazing! I like almost everything about the game. By the 15th hour I was already dreading GODEATER. I honestly don’t know how I kept it together and finished it. I was soooo bored. I never heard about Fight the Dragon, but if you say it somewhat close, I’m never gonna touch it. xD
I love it! O.O
That is such a cool book shelf! Like with all the extra niches you made! And the tape (or paint? But it looks more like tape) to give it some accent. That. Is. Super. Cool.!
You get the Queens stamp of approval! :]
And yay to WD! And you have a Geroge R.R. Martin there and… that was about the things I recognized :D
Anyway, it looks real great! I would absolutely let you make one for me nod nod
Have a great next month!
Happy backlog killing :)
Glad you liked and thanks for the approval, your highness! :P
I have a bunch of old books. I have the same predilection for old stuff as an 80 years old. xD
It’s actually black paint. Althought I used tape to make sure it was painting in a straight line, I removed it after finishing the job. I was supposed to look like a word, but no one reconizes, so it wasn’t that good. xD
R$500 + travels expenses and accommodation and you got yourself a new bookcase! jk :p
Ha, that sounds cool. But I was thinking more of the language that made me not recognize things. Although I’ve now spotted the Guiness Book of Records and Dictionaries and stuff :]
Yeah, no. L I (something I can’t work out) and E? confused
Er… I’m the Queen!
Most of my collection is in portuguese and english. A few in spanish and french.
That something you can’t work out was supposed to be an R. xD
English works. The rest… not so much :]
Lire? As in… the money? confused
I really wasn’t that sure, sry hide
And I think the contrast is not that much to spot it instantly. If I was sitting at your places and could look at it all evening long, I probably would work it out at some point. Yes, you are right. I am not Sherlock Holmes :]
Lire means “read” in french. The word in portuguese (ler) is only 3 letters long. It wouldn’t work. Besides, my granpa was french and he was the one who introduced me to a bunch of those authors.
Ooooooh! Yeah, now that you mention it, I kinda know that :D
Well, that’s awesome! But you should really make it… stand more out. Like flashy or something! nod nod :D
That is one cool bookcase.
Thanks for the kind words! :)
Oh crap, the bookcase is real!
How did the total cost turn out when compared to shop bought book cases?
Also now that you have done this what’s next? Maybe add an extra room to the house? :)
I’m not that good and I had some help. I did most of the hard work, but I couldn’t have done that alone. Both my father and my brother help a bit. (especially the latter). The internet helped a lot too. I found out all kinds of tutorials on youtube: how to apply varnish, painting tricks, cutting wood tips…
The downside of this is that the youtube algorithm is messed up. Seriously, youtube is trying to make me watch a stupid video on how to build a wall for 2 weeks… As if I were Donald Trump or some shit.
Well, a new one that size would cost between R$500-1500, depending on the quality of the wood/materials/brand/etc. I bought the wood for ~R$250 + some R$120 of paint, nails and wall hooks. My dad attached it to the wall for me, since I never actually used a mechanical drill, and he has plenty of experience from working as an engineer. Therefore I didn’t have to pay someone to do that. All in all, I’d say I saved some R$500. That’s about 150 dollars, which is close to the amount I spent for the September event. You could say my bookcase paid for that. xD
This made me laugh I’ve had to deal with YouTube’s algorithm going funky on me before
I hope it goes back to normal asap. I’m getting really tired of all those “do it yourself” suggestions.
Please, youtube, make it stop! I’ll never use adblock again, I promise. T_T
BInge watch a bunch of music vids and it will disappear.
Ads have the same issue, you watch one add for socks and suddenly everywhere you surf there will be ads for socks that appear.
Now that I’m thinking about, I should have deleted my youtube history. If that doesn’t help, I’m gonna try your method. :)
