Mid-March Report

Hewwooooo assiswins~ How’s everyone been? Well the half month mark is here once again so report we shall have!

As some of you might know I’ve been stuck in a bureaucratic hell these past 10 days or so and had to momentarily say my goodbyes with my pc once more. Now I’m done with all I had to do and just gotta wait for a notice to come so I go get an exam and be done with this sh*t for another 2 years. The day we meet again my beloved is coming! And when I say “my beloved” I am being rather literal. My dazzling, quirky, flamboyant necromancer is waiting for me back at home ❤️️

Who am I talking about you ask? But why, Dorian Pavus of course! For the ones that don’t recognise the name he’s a character from Dragon Age: Inquisition, my first game for this month. The EA sale kicked in and I just couldn’t resist any longer. Managed to play for about 45 hours in just the first 5 days of March(yes, it’s THAT addicting!) before I had to leave my pc behind. Reached a couple missions before the final one but ignored pretty much all side quests that I didn’t need for Power to unlock stuff. Will have to take care of all those when I get home :P
All in all DA:I feels like the game we never knew we needed yet we so desperately did. Every other BioWare title just feels like a dress rehearsal and this is finally the real event! Everything about it is great, the characters are all rather interesting and fleshed out, the environments are insanely huge and beautiful, the gameplay feels like the perfect balance of simplistic yet in depth, the voice acting spectacular as always and generally loved everything about it.
The only reason I still hold the Mass Effect Trilogy higher than DA is that while DA does an excellent job in Origins and Inquisition(let’s forget II exists, mkay?) it still is a recounting of a world/era and not the tale of a hero. That’s what ME has over DA and at least for me, brings it on top. Playing the same character over the course of 3 games makes you much more invested in all the characters and situations, while in DA even characters you already know are new to the MC so the relationship you had with them is gone and you’re now building something new up. But either way DA:I is an excellent title, no matter how you slice it.

So, let’s move on to the other stuff shall we?

So Mobius and Fire Emblem Heroes are still going strong as my little nice time killers with all the back and forth on public transportation this week. Not much to say here, typical mobage, blah blah, rng, blah blah.

It’s Spring Again: Ok, some pretty artwork and that’s it. Might keep your kid occupied for 15mins or so.

Freedom Fall: Scroll down platformer with infinite lives. Super fun, some hard parts but best part? Sociopath Daddy-Issues Princess! I love her! Her messages on the walls as you climb down the tower are hilarious. Definitely recommend this one!

Stick it to The Man! : Oh Man! This one was hilarious! It’s a stage platformer/puzzle game with very, very, very heavy emphasis on humor. It’s only 10 stages but Man, was it an experience xD

Evoland: And I finally understand why this is so highly praised! Very short and simple game that just nudges you gently with “Remember thiiiiis? Aaawwwww” stuff. If you played the old Zelda, Final Fantasy etc games you need to play this! There was one dungeon though that felt completely out of place, the one going the Diablo route :\

Legends of Eisenwald: Had this sitting in my wishlist for I don’t even remember how long. And now I can’t figure out why for the life of me. It’s a game following the Heroes of Might And Magic recipe with a much inferior story, very limited unit choices, mediocre graphics and generally meh. When you complete a chapter you move to the next just by yourself so any units you invested time in, any gold you amassed is gone, any items you had they’re all gone. And the cherry on top of the proverbial cake? It keeps crashing every 20-30mins. So goodbye for now, Eisenwald, maybe we’ll meet again someday but not soon.

FEZ: One of the titles I was challenged to finish for the “March is a month you play a SG win” challenge. Finished a couple stages on it but I just couldn’t get into it, maybe the fact I don’t have my Xbox controller with me has played a part in it since these games I usually play with it. Guess I’ll have to wait till I get home and finish another one or retry with the controller then.

So this has been the gaming part of my March so far. It’s once again not as extensive I hoped it would, but it’s an okay progress considering all the running around like a headless chicken I was doing the past days :P
Anyway, keep having fun assassins and I’ll see you again at the end of the month, xoxo~

Shame to hear about your Legends of Eisenwald problems. From what little I've played of it seems really good, kinda like a cross between King's Bounty and Disciples 2. I really dig the low fantasy medieval faux-Germany setting. Also played some Mobius, but decided to stop yesterday. It's just taking too long to accomplish anything... scratch that, there's just too much filler to everything for a story that you could probably complete in couple of hours. Amusingly enough I really had no problem with limited stamina system these games have.

Wolfedood

Yeah, I saw that review you did on Mobius a while back, man that was extensive!
Well it’s just a typical gacha so only good to kill some time here and there, nothing more. Although it is a bit better than the average gacha, most of them just give you a “story” consisting of 5 lines at the start and a trope progression and that’s it. At least here there’s new chapters every month or two.

Eisenwald, if you don’t have the technical problems, is not a bad game, it’s just something you’ve played before already, nothing new about it. But otherwise it’s solid.

I’m playing through Dragon Age Origins at the moment and I’m really looking forward to playing Inquisition, I do think it’s a tough call between choosing the better of DA and Mass Effect though! I’ll wait until I’ve played them all before making that judgement, I just felt Mass Effect had some amazing characters but I did find the story to be a bit lacklustre with the exception of the first game. I can’t quite put my finger on it as it remains one of my favourite series but in my opinion there is something lacking that doesn’t make it the special trilogy a lot of people consider it to be!

A nice collection of other games you’ve played too, good progress indeed as it sounds like you’ve been very busy! It took me a while to get into FEZ too yet I ended up loving it in the end as I became more familiar with it, I did use a controller so maybe that might help you out. Freedom Fall is a game on my wishlist that everyone but me seems to own, I definitely want to try it out as the reviews I’ve read all seem very positive!

Wolfedood

You’re actually more right than you think :P
Mass Effect shines through it’s characters, the vast majority of them are very well made, with interesting backstories and even more interesting interactions. There is the occasional “bad apple” like Jacob or Vega which are not bad, just bland, but even then ME manages to propel you into such an array of personalities that you’re certain to find a few you’ll love. However it does have its issues, mostly gameplay ones and most of the side-stuff really feel like useless side-stuff instead of natural progression. Another personal complaint I have of the series is how limited it felt. You literally had a galaxy in your disposal and you only got to visit a handful of planets/stations and most of them in a very linear way. It could have greatly benefited from open world areas. The ending was another very widely disputed point that many felt ruined their experience with the trilogy. Personally though, I don’t agree, one of those 4 endings(hint at the 4th :P) was perfect for my Shepard and felt VERY appropriate for me, even though technically it’s the bad end. Had I played a Shep that wasn’t so vocal about freedom of choice all through my 3 games I might have not been as satisfied either.

DA on the other hand does everything exactly opposite. It has great worldbuilding with vast open spaces, very good RPG gameplay, a conclusion to each game yet it suffers from a number of characters that might as well not be there. In Origins for example the only characters I got invested in were Alistair, Morrigan and Oghren. Ok and doge but doge doesn’t count :P Everyone else might as well not be there. DA II was even worse almost everyone is forgettable and…meh. And then came DA:I, that REALLY reminded me of ME character wise.

Joe

Ooooh is that ending the one that they added in with the extended cut? I had a hard time deciding and ended up choosing the “control” one even though I later found that wasn’t very popular… but the way it was explained seemed to be perhaps the most practical of the three (I wasn’t aware of the fourth). Yeah I agree with you that it wasn’t enough to ruin the experience, games that are choice-based heavy always get my sympathy in that respect as it really is an impossible task to factor in all the picks each player makes to create individual endings. Haha I’ve installed the mod that allows you to bring the dog along everywhere as there are just too many landmark trees and tents that need “marking”… seriously through more games need dog companions! Eugh I am kind of dreading DAII.

Wolfedood

Yup, that’s the one. Everyone dies and we lose the war instead of picking any of the horrible choices but it’s okay, it was fitting. Destroy was a big no-no, I’m not doing that to EDI and the geth, control is worse cause my Shep was aaaaaall about free will and the right of choice, and synth was even worse for the exact same reason, everyone would have to choose it for themselves, not forced into it. So I just refused all three and surprise surprise there was another ending. It felt surprisingly right though. We had a great journey, we did all we could without compromising ourselves and we lost, no biggie. We helped the next cycle win
As for DA II it’s not a bad game, just a downgrade of the usual stuff BioWare gives us. It still is better than a lot of other games but for THIS company it’s one of their worst. But you kinda need it for DA:I, it’s very, very, very heavily mentioned in Inquisition and the events of the first half of the game directly linked to what happened in II. Plus it has Varric so that’s something :3

ninglor03

It sounds good for things to clear up a bit, so you can return to lovely necromancers <3
Have much fun with DA:I. I didn’t play it as often as I played the ME Trilogy, but DA was great fun as well. And I totally get that thing about ME having Shep and in DA you don’t stick to one character. I played ME first and hopes soooooo much for DA to have a just as awesome maincharacter. I had no idea it was not the same, so when I started two, I was really disappointed. I kept on playing of course, but it was just not the same thing for me :(
That’s why I probably never managed to replay the games like I did with ME. Aw man! I’m sooooo looking forward to Andromeda bounce Can’t wait for the 28. to finally come! more bouncing

I don’t know about the other games and I don’t have them on my future plan, so I’m just going to ignore them. But good work killing them ;)
Keep going :)

Wolfedood

Wait what?! 28th? Wasn’t it the 23rd? Did it get delayed?! D:

ninglor03

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Noooooo! It was me!I got that now totally wrong! 23. it is of course! SORRY!

Ok, I’m good. Didn’t mean to scare you (or me). I had it the other day wrong in the other way, because I just remembered the date (and even THAT one wrong -.-) of the preload. I guess I should just stop mentioning the date for ME:A :D

escollo

Heh. I was excited to hear that Fez was ported on PC and was even more excited when I got it. But I played it half of hour, uninstal and never came back. And I even can’t explain why I don’t like it XD

Wolfedood

Same here, there’s something that doesn’t quite sit right but can’t exactly put my finger on it!
