A Year of Backlog Fight in Review
Took me long enough but I finally stopped procrastinating and put all the stats & images together, here comes my yearly summary. And for the first time since I keep those yearly reports, I got out victorious from the backlog fight. With a small margin, but it’s a victory nonetheless so I’ll take it.
2022 was a great year in terms of the quality of games I played. I had a hard time only picking 15 of them for this top. If I had to reduce my favourite games to a top 3, I’ll keep Beacon Pines, Hades and I was a Teenage Exocolonist. That said, I strongly recommend every single game that made this top.
Finished: 63
Beaten: 47
Completed: 16
Added to the Backlog of Doom: 60
Best month: October (-4)
Worst month: April (+4)
A victory nonetheless
The fight was close but I managed to take a small victory on the backlog this year. The most effective way was to cut down what I added to the backlog. More than half of the additions were review keys, not all of which I wanted to play but sometimes you have to take one for the team. At least all of those got played on short terms and most of them finished. For the really bad ones, I'm contemplating purging them out of my account soon.
I'm really happy with finishing Skatr's 20/22 challenge, so happy that I'm taking a slight variation on it for this year too (see next tab).
Progress in 2022
Won on SteamGifts
Jan 1st (173 games) vs Dec 31th 2022 (178 games)
Gifts & Other Wins
Jan 1st (428 games) vs Dec 31th 2022 (450 games)
Very little objectives for 2023 except continue to enjoy myself playing games, trying my best to complete my 20/23 challenge and keeping the additions to the backlog as controlled as possible.
Basically, just have fun and try my best to get another victory.
State of the Targets on January 1st 2023 (for tracking purpose)
Won on SteamGifts 178 games
Gifts & Other Wins 450 games
Added in 2022 60 games
Love the way you have done the screenshots of your 2022 favorites - a lot of games there I’m interested in playing at some point!
The games you have chosen for the 20/23 challenge look excellent as well :)
Thank you :3
Victory you say? Suspicious :glare
Hello, your graph appears to be bugged. It looks like you had beaten more games than added in certain months? Surely that cannot be correct so I thought I would bring it to your attention.
Good job on taking a small victory against the backlog! :P
And nice to see “Days Gone” on your top list, I bought it during winter sale and intend to play it this year.
Thank you :3
I did the same last year (bought it during winter sale and then played it during january and february). It was a lot of fun and beautiful landscapes. Hope you have fun too!!
Wow, that 2022 image with the game art filling it in is gorgeous! I’d love to know how you made it! Looks like we have many similar game interests. Beacon Pines was one of my favorite games of the year as well :-D
Thanks, was just a bit of assembling and masking on photoshop :)
Glad to find another enjoyer of Beacon Pines! I feel like it was the hidden gem of 2022, most people skipped over it thinking it was something overly childish.
Dang, that’s beyond my skill level then haha (plus I don’t have photoshop XD). I really love the cover art that so many games have on Steam, so seeing it put together like that is awesome.
People are seriously missing out if they think that about Beacon Pines! I tried the demo during one of those Steam fests before it came out, and I knew right then it would be a day one play for me. I felt it came out at the perfect time as well, right at the beginning of fall which fit the cozy+spooky theme just right. I remember sitting down and playing through the whole thing that weekend (I played it on xbox game pass). Definitely one of my top 5 memorable game experiences of last year. I think the devs are planning to update it with more content, so I’m excited for that!
I’ve been doing those for a few years (you can check on my profile the previous year ones) and i really like the colorful look the steam miniatures stitched together give so I keep going for the same style year after year XD
Beacon Pines was definitely my GOTY 2022 (it helps that I don’t like Soulslikes and I don’t have a PS, so no elden ring or GoW for me). I’m so happy to read they might have more content for us because that’s the only thing I’d like out of this game : MORE OF IT.
Congratulations on your glorious victory! Great job. ;D
You have played pretty good games. From your favorites I want at least half of them. ^^
Best of luck with your challenge in 2023 and have fun. :3
Thank you!!
I definitely recommand anything/everything in the favourite list, some didn’t look like much but they all turned out really good.
