Life is Strange: Before the Storm ⭐️⭐⭐⭐⭐
Story rich16,3 hours playtime, 34 of 34 achievements (100%)
- Chloe is really likable in this part
- Relationship between main characters is way deeper and more alive in comparison to original game
- Conversation arguments instead of ability to go back in time
- Way better finale than in original game
Cons:
- I didn't like to scribble on walls to get achievements
- Telltale-like choices
Conclusion:
I enjoyed this game way more than original. In 1st part I didn't know who the hell Chloe is, why should I even care about her and all that. Game forced me into relationship I didn't enjoy, saying I should do everything to save it. Here it's different. We see from the beginning how relationship between Chloe and Rachel forms, learn background of relationship between Chloe and her step dad and so on. So it felts like it was my story way more than in 1st game.
Even though "fight with last enemy" was kinda meh here, game finale was way better than ending of original game. I couldn't understand why devs used this shitty psychedelic theme in 5th episode of original game, and why I was given such useless choice at the end of it.
I haven't replayed last chapter to check if some decisions have any consequences on game ending. But I will be fine if they won't have any impact. I looked at this game as "story of how relationship was form", not like on game where my choices should change whole game ending.
When I played it I couldn't stop to think that this game should be released before original. To give us background why Chloe looks so desperately for Rachel. Esp that it ends with scene that is really good (albeit sad after beating original game already) foreshadowing.
- Puzzles are easy and without some ridiculous "deponia-like logic"
- Whole game is written in rhymes. Both dialogues and story bits
Cons:
- Time-sensitive elements in point&click games are never good choice, here it's not any different
Conclusion:
There is not much to write about. Basic graphics, silly story with cows as plot. And we as heroes. It wasn't bad, but I also wouldn't replay it again.
Secret World Legends ⭐️⭐⭐⭐☆
MMO F2P160 hours playtime, No achievements
- MMO with nice story and setting that almost feel like playing in SP game
- Doesn't feel grindy
- Free players don't feel need to use real cash to unlock things
- Combat is more action-oriented in comparison to games where you have 10 quick bars and 50 abilities to use
- There is limit to amount of players on one map installation, so they aren't cluttered with other players wandering around
Cons:
- Way too many places where you can get stuck and need to reset character
- Quests that need outside-of game information, esp use of bible
- Auction house without selling orders price check, and expiration indication
- Amount of lore to collect will be death of compulsive-must-clean-map players
Conclusion:
It took me like 2 months to beat it. It's good game and feels like SP game with tons of repetitive filler quests. Lack of others players wandering around only strengths feeling I played in SP game. Which was nice, I prefer SP games over MP ones.
It's remastered version of original game (The Secret World), and not all of original content is released so far. I will wait till devs end porting last region, and beat it once it's fully released.
There are 3 main areas, each has 3 maps. But 1st area felt much bigger than other two, and took most of gameplay time to beat. Last area felt super short, especially that I didn't complete all quest from last map of 3rd area. It didn't feel like it's worth the effort when main content was close to being beaten.
So it's not typical MMO game, there is nothing that would keep players playing after they beat main quest. But it's nice game if you want to play with someone in co-op for free or like MMOs that have "end point".
- 4th wall? What 4th wall?
- Fluid and easy to learn combat system
- Lewd humor
Cons:
- Gameplay can get repetitive after some time
- Achievements that get unobtainable when we buffed character too much
Conclusion:
It's perfect "break 4th wall" simulator with silly story and nice combat system. Nothing serious or demanding, just good way of spending time when we don't want to focus on deep story or important choices. But on killing hordes of enemies with huge hammers and plasma guns.
- Has Ori and Blind Forest vibe
- Nice graphic
Cons:
- Lack of mini map / map (!!) - it's surely not game for people with area orientation problems
- Clunky controls
Conclusion:
This game... ugh. Platformer with non-responsive controls. Not terribly predictable story as background, and hours wasted to find my way around the map (How Long To Beat shows 5,5h as Main + Extra as typical game time). Like seriously, I spent around hour trying go leave one area. As I had bigger break in playing and didn't remember where I should go next. It was terrible. Beginning of the game was better, as there is only one proper way to go. I was curious how story will end and didn't want to leave it unfinished. But later it was one big mess and I had to force myself to start it and play every time. Hence only 3 stars.
Next month gaming:
- Valley - already beaten, but will be in January post. Really liked it due to nerdy-humor and really nice parkour gameplay.
- Styx: Master of Shadows - started it recently. Stealth game with bad character facial animations in cut scenes, and above-average dumb enemies. But I'm curious how story will progress. I will pass on trying to max out my character and getting achievements, as I think it'd require to get badges for killing all enemies in every mission. And only 1st mission had 97 enemies to kill on 2 small maps.... and combat / stealth kills are not enjoyable, surely not at the beginning.
- Quantum Break or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - depending if I will want to play in something more action based or stealthy.
After all the hate you poured upon Seasons after Fall, I’m surprised to see it get 3 stars. I was expecting like 1½ stars from you :P
This game is not bad buggy greenlight card-farming crap xD
It was supposed to get 4 stars, but lack of map and wasted time dropped it by 1. I’m not that bad :P I know this game was bad for me due to my orientation problems, won’t drag it trough the mud because of that.
I’m so glad to see someone really enjoy Life is Strange: Before the Storm. I keep hearing negative things from friends so I’ve been put off despite my love of the series. Looks like I can let the hype build up again thanks to your rating :D
Congrats on the progress!
Pete!
I’m so glad to see you!! ^_^ Like srsly, I can’t stop smiling :D
Thanks :D Well LiS:BS is surely not a game where choices matter (so it shouldn’t have this tag in Steam Store at all). But I liked to see how relationship between Chloe and Rachel forms. That was nice :D
Heh, I’m not used to that reaction! Your day must have been terrible if seeing me is enough to make you smile :P
I don’t mind too much that the choices don’t matter, I still enjoy Telltale and they’ve cornered the market on that illusion. The original was so good in offering routes that I didn’t think they’d be able to keep it up in a prequel, especially as we know the eventual outcome D:
Nope, my day was pretty good! Not amazing, amazing days are only when I have free day :P
I never want to pester ppl on steam, so seeing that you’re commenting somewhere (means you’re ok) is something that made me happy. Simple :D But I know it may be weird when you’re not used to this type of reaction. Been there, done that.
TWD was the best choice-matter illusion game I played from Telltale. Games that were released later are worse IMO. I mean I really liked Tales From Borderlands, but not for choices but humor.
I like being pestered :D It’s been weirdly quiet the last few months so I just assumed people forgot who I am :P It’s sad to say that I actually miss your daily dozen user reports that kept me busy!
Ofc not :P I stopped to write them after you took break from SG, it wasn’t fun anymore. And I saw profile is private on Steam, so though “need time off”.
I had a suspended user post a link to my profile on a group they ran asking people to leave abuse on the comments and my screenshots, or send invites to offensive groups and friends requests followed by chat messages. It was literally constant with some of them leaving comments and then instantly deleting them so that I’d always have notifications. Steam reports did nothing and I couldn’t do anything about it on SG as it was all happening off-site. That’s why I had the private profile, I was just waiting for it to stop :P
On the contrary, I’d love to chat with some of the old people I knew and love from SG, but it’s been very quiet and I’m too embarrassed to make contact heh.
Damn, they relaly don’t know where to stop >_>
Also you can add me on steam if you want
Hey, that’s a name I’ve not seen in a while. People have not forgot who you are, in fact I’ve heard people mention you a bunch of times in the last few months, so you’re fondly remembered by a bunch of people.
I’ve watched Milkmaid of the Milky Way on youtube, tehe XD It was around the time someone discovered it, and everyone was recommending it to everyone else. And I was like “nope, not gonna add 40th unplayed adventure game to my library, just for the story; I made dozens of mistakes like this, and I was always reminded that I don’t particularly like that type of gameplay”. I usually don’t watch games, and prefer playing to watching, but I was right on this - the story was nice, the ending tear inducing, the rhymes were cute, but I would be really frustrated had I played this myself - so many nonsensical puzzles, so much back and forth (and I watched a solution gameplay of someone who knew what they were doing, always picked the right items the earliest, and did not go anywhere unnecessarily). I can only imagine myself running around 3 times as much.
@Seasons after Fall - I wonder what’s up with the controls for this game. I’ve read few other comments on this, but for me everything was ok. Maybe because I played with controller?
Ohhhh I forgot about rhymes. I need to add this to OP post. Thanks!
About Seasons - yeah I played it with K + M. Changing seasons takes too long IMO. Platforming parts were ok when I wanted to run in one direction and jump or smth. But try to stand on mushroom, face right and jump left. It will give awkward animation and whole jump won’t be precise. That’s worst problem of this game. Jumping when fox faces other direction.
Yay! Thank you for the review on the new Life is Strange (Good to know about the second being better than the first in terms of ending anyway!) and Deadpool. Both I want to play ^^
Btw, how do you put the colour backgrounds on the game lists? Like how you have the green and blue, I’ve wanted to do that for ages but markdown is too confusing sometimes and I’m not much of a coder xD
This creates framework:
<div class="panel panel-success">
Your text here
</div>
Change panel-success to panel-info or panel-warning or panel-danger to get blue / yellow / red colors. Others are not supported.
To add header-big-clickable-button:
Data-toggle="collapse"
means that header is hidden by default. Also every header needs it’s own ID => data-target="#post-1"
(you can use anything here, it’s be also ok to have #1 / #my_post__1 )
<div class="panel panel-success">
<div class="panel-heading collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#post-1" aria-expanded="false">
<=
<img src="http://www.dailyworldfacts.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/facts-about-cat-fallen-cat.jpg">
<=
</div>
<=
</div>
To add text that will be displayed after someone clicks header:
Note that I changed ID from post-1
to post-2
. Otherwise web browser would think I’m still inside example above, and clicking on previous header would also open this one.
<div class="panel panel-success">
<div class="panel-heading collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#post-2" aria-expanded="false">
<img src="http://www.dailyworldfacts.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/facts-about-cat-fallen-cat.jpg">
</div>
<div id="post-2" class="panel-body collapse" aria-expanded="false" style="height: 30px;">
<=
Cat text here <=
</div>
<=
</div>
If you want to have expanded header+note below you need to throw away collapsed
parts
<div class="panel panel-success">
<div class="panel-heading" data-target="#post-3">
<img src="http://www.dailyworldfacts.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/facts-about-cat-fallen-cat.jpg">
</div>
<div id="post-3" style="height: 30px;">
Cat text here
</div>
</div>
Basically everything between <div class="panel-heading collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#post-2" aria-expanded="false">
and </div>
will be displayed in header, and between <div id="post-2" class="panel-body collapse" aria-expanded="false" style="height: 30px;">
and </div>
in text field beneath it.
And you must know that CSS won’t work with SG-like comment formatting. So I wouldn’t be able to use ![Cat photo](www.cat.com)
to add this cat photo. It’s either pure CSS/HTML or simple SG formatting.
Hope it’s what you wanted? If not poke me again, I will answer when I will be back home later.
Wow thank you so much! I’ll try to use it on my next post! It seems simple enough with your comment so I’ll give it a bash! :D <3
The badge is actually for not killing any enemies during a mission. There are 4 Insignias in total per mission: Insignia of Mercy (not killing anyone), Insignia of Shadow (not being seen), Insignia of Swiftness (finishing the mission within the time limit) and Insignia of Thief (collecting all coins). There are achievements for killing enemies in different ways but there is no badge to kill every single enemy in every single mission.
I know, I phrased it really poorly. It’s easier to just kill everyone and then go after coins :P
And beating level two times in sneaky way (once for coins, and once for stealth / speed insignias) would be too repetitive for me. I mean I could do it, but I try to fight with my achievement OCD.
