So my plan going into attacking my backlog, was to finish all the games I’d started and gotten at least one achievement for. As a starting point, I’d have plenty to work with.
But I noticed that Dear Esther was on sale, and realised I already owned the game (surprise, surprise). Contrary to my original plan, I decided to play it despite having never started it before. I thought it would be a good one to actually complete–I rarely 100% games because in most cases that would, you know, require some skill.
It was my first experience with this genre and honestly, it was a nice change of pace (see below). Playing through the game a second time for the director’s commentary also made me appreciate what went into development.
I’ve found these three games quite challenging. I haven’t progressed all that much in Cave Story+ since my last post. I think I’m at the final boss, and I’m in struggle town, left wondering if I’ve screwed up somewhere along the way.
I’m finding Retro City Rampage™ DX frustratingly difficult in parts. There’s an achievement for beating a part of the game called Death Cam VHS without dying. I died. A lot.
Maybe I’m getting older, and the synapses aren’t firing as quickly as they used to. Maybe I suck. Whetever the case, the fact that Super Meat Boy is one of the games I’ve started–and therefore need to beat as part of my plan–fills me with dread.
Managed to beat a couple of games this month, both quite fun although I had an issue with slow texture loads on RAGE which was annoying enough that I had to look for a fix.
I’ve started Cave Story+ and enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. Can’t say I’ve played too many platformers since my (much) younger days, but the game reminds me of why I fell in love with the medium all those years ago.
