Yet another update!

Broken neck

  • Antenna
    Antenna

    41 minutes playtime

    5 of 5 achievements

A cold body.

An easy, short and free game was all I needed to waste some time. But beware if you intend to play it: it contains one absolutelly annoying puzzle.

Lost the fight at the Fight Club

  • Void & Meddler
    Void & Meddler

    3 hours playtime

    12 of 22 achievements

  • Party Hard
    Party Hard

    12 hours playtime

    20 of 26 achievements

They went limp, so according to the third rule, the fight was over.

Void & Meddler was amazingly good. I only beat the game once, and on 'normal' mode; now I'm striving to get all the achievements and endings. As for Party Hard, it gets old fast, but at least I finished the main campaign.

Music

I've been absolutelly re-addicted to Papo y Yo's soundtrack, after a fellow assassin mentioned the game in a post. Cheers, Shax!

As for the monthly theme...

Movie recommendations!

A varied selection of worthy of your time time-travel movies.

Title: Twelve Monkeys (1995)

Synopsis: "In a future world devastated by disease, a convict is sent back in time to gather information about the man-made virus that wiped out most of the human population on the planet." –IMDB

Original title: Toki o kakeru shôjo (2006)

Synopsis: "A high-school girl named Makoto acquires the power to travel back in time, and decides to use it for her own personal benefits. Little does she know that she is affecting the lives of others just as much as she is her own." –IMDB

Title: Primer (2004)

Synopsis:"Four friends/fledgling entrepreneurs, knowing that there's something bigger and more innovative than the different error-checking devices they've built, wrestle over their new invention." –IMDB

Personal warning: Although Primer is one of the best when it comes to time travel, it's also one of the most difficult movies on the subject to grasp. That being said, don't dream of trying to grasp every detail on a first watch; you won't.

For those who like to read...

I recommend a short story, "All You Zombies", by Robert A. Heinlein, one of the masters of Sci-Fi. It's only 9 pages long, and guaranteed to make your brain noodles knot.

Crystal

Watched 12 Monkeys and Toki o kakeru shôjo. Loved both of them and recommend to anyone who didn’t see them before. As for Primer, it’s in my watch list. I hope I won’t forget to watch it this time :)

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

I hope you enjoy it if you do! Don’t hesitate to leave your impressions here if you’d like. I’d love to know what you thought. (:

Garcias

Void & Meddler art looks absolutely fantastic. Added to wishlist! And I’m currently playing Party Hard, and yes, it gets old fast but if you enjoy it it’s perfectly playable! (for me at least)

I have seen 12 Monkeys and I’m yet to see season 2 finale of the tv show. It’s a pretty good theme (who doesn’t like time travelling?!) and I like the characters too.
Toki o kakeru shôjo is in my to watch list. Didn’t knew about Primer, one more to the watchlist!

I’ll try to read “All you Zombies” tomorrow or something like that and report back to you.

Two more things:
1) Love the format of your posts. So innovative and well organized!
2) It’s nice to see that even though this is a gaming community there are a lot of common interests (movies, anime, books!)

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Hello there! Welcome aboard BLAEO, as I see you are new in town.

So glad to have given you some game and movie ideas! I bet you’ll like them. V&M has amazing art, truly – and nifty quotes from books and songs. Maybe I’ve just partied too hard and Party Hard grew stale! Who knows? But I’m happy you’re enjoying it.

I’ve never seen the TV show, but I’ll keep it in mind. And you certainly should see Primer, if you want to bust your brain. It’s amazing!

Do get back at me if you read it, whatever you have to say.

1)Thanks, although I’m wrestling with the HTML on this crap for 2 hours now. You should check out users Akantha, Top Deer and Downward Concept. That, son, is some kick-ass formatting.
2) Couldn’t agree more!

Garcias

I have read “All You Zombies” and I liked it, really liked it. However, it wasn’t mind blowing or anything new to me. I didn’t knew why. However, it reminded me of the movie Predestination (2014), which I saw last year, and after going to wikipedia I found out the movie is actually based in that short story. Ahah!

Well I have edited and organized my first post but yeah, it takes time to get used to it. The users you mentioned have really pretty profiles and posts but I can’t seem to imagine the work it must have been. Maybe step by step I’ll (and you, even though yours are already beautiful) reach there!

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

You’re really sweet, so thanks for the compliment, once again. Good luck editing your first post! I’m sure it will look great in no time.

Too bad you didn’t find “All You Zombies” that brain-melting. The first time I read it, I was stunned. Maybe it’s because I hadn’t seen the movie, or didn’t even know what it was about! Still, I’m pleased to know you liked it nonetheless.

Garcias

Thank you! I believe it’s already finished and I won’t change it anymore xD

I can see why, I mean, I went to the movie blind-folded and it had the same effect on me. If you watch the movie you’ll understand why I said that, it’s because both of them are basically the same story. They are still great though!

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

It’s been added to my movie watch list! Thanks once again.

Garcias

No problem. Enjoy!

Thyreos

I can vouch for Primer and Twelve Monkeys. Two really excellent movies.

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

claps I’ve already said so, but you have a refined taste in movies! If you ever have any movies to recommend me, please feel free. At this point, I’d heed with no hesitation.

Thyreos

:) Since you like Twelve Monkeys, you have to watch the definitive Terry Gilliam movie Brazil if you haven’t. But I think I like Twelve Monkeys better (it’s been a while). In the, you know, brainy category, I’d also pick Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Fisher King with Robin Williams - also What Dreams May Come. In the Despicable Me category I confess I love the Incredibles, and King Fu Panda :). Those are what come to mind… Have you seen them?

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Being Brazilian, I’ve wanted to watch Brazil since forever. It’s in my Shame List. So I’ll keep it in mind! Eternal Sunshine is another one I’ve been wanting to watch since forever, but I hadn’t yet added to my list! Plus, it has Jeff Bridges in it, Dude (pun intended)! And What Dreams seems wonderful. I take it you are fond of Robin? Incredibles is amazing! I love The Emperor’s New Groove, now that you mention thos kinds of movies! I’ve never been too fond of Panda, though.

Thyreos

You know, I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t have a clue why the movie is called Brazil. Emperor’s New Groove is great :) Jeff Bridges is always fun to watch. What’s-his-face in Eternal Sunshine not so much, but that should give you an idea of how good the movie is despite him.

I am fond of Robin, and I miss him.

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Well, this is embarrassing. You know that feeling when you think something and you type another thing? So, I did that. Jeff Brigs is in The Fisher King, and not Eternal Sunshine. Therefore, what I said about Eternal Sunshine should apply to Fisher King instead! Sorry for the confusion. I only did notice it now.

I’m clueless as to why it’s called Brazil as well… maybe I’ll find out when I finally watch it?

So do I, Thyreos. So do we all, actually. </3

Thyreos

I think my brain auto-corrected your comment about Jeff Bridges lol. I didn’t even notice. Fisher King might be hard to watch now with Robin gone :( If you do watch it, there’s a random scene in there I will have to see if you can figure out - I’ve never been able to make sense of it.

mandrill

Ha! Just this weekend I discovered there’s a 12 Monkeys series I never knew about … told nelly about it yesterday :) Watched about half of the first season, I like it so far. In Germany it’s included in (and I think exclusive to) Amazon Prime, but you can probably find other means.

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Woah! It’s been forever since I’ve marathoned a TV show (the last was probably Black Sails’ second season), but I’m glad others find the time! And sorry if this is a stupid question, but who is this Nelly we’re talking about?

I’ve added it to my (longer than I’d like) TV shows watchlist! Thanks a bunch for the recomendation. If it’s anything like the movie, I bet it’s worth it.

mandrill

Well 6 episodes on a weekend + Monday is about the longest marathon I find time for :/ My father asked us to housesit and we made a lazy mini holiday trip out of it. Binge watching would have fit that program nicely ;) … but we brought work :/

I’m a little surprised, I thought everyone knew nelly … particularly because most got their group invites / site access from her. Hum. Well I guess you’ll meet her sooner or later around here :)

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

I feel sorry for you (although we’re on the same marathon-free boat on that). Well, at least I hope you had some fun! Housesitting can be awesome, if one makes the best of it.

Now that you sent me a link, I realize I know who Nelly is, but I’ve never spoken to her. I met and got into BLAEO trough my friend Downward Concept. I sure hope to make her acquaintance shortly! (:

Daerphen

oh yeah, Papo and Yo is really nice. Played it a few years ago. Glad you found motivation for the game

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

I played and beat it eons ago. I was grateful to be reminded of its gorgeous soundtrack, and of my need to replay it soon!

PS: I gave your Steam profile a peek, and I know we’re here to cross out games and not add more of them, but if I may be so blunt: if you liked a more-to-the-casual-side game like Papo y Yo, I strongly recommend Amanita Design’s Botanicula! It has an equally remarkable soundtrack and an interesting story to tell. Just a game for you to think about when the next sale dawns upon us!

Daerphen

Thanks for the recommendation. I appears from time to time in the recommended list on the store front page. Added it to my wishlist.
I just have to make sure to beat more games than adding new ones ;)

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

It’s my pleasure, glad you did and if you ever do play it, let me know. No pressure, just an “if” and an “ever”.

Good luck with your backlog!

codasim

Let’s not neglect the classics.
The Late Philip J. Fry episode of Futurama.
One of my favorites.

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

I have never watched Futurama! I know, I know. “What a sin!” and what have you. I’m interested in checking that out after reading the synopsis, but I can’t really afford to start yet another TV show right now. Do you think I could watch that episode solo?

codasim

I have watched them all even multiple times! But I forgive you for having sinned!
It would be ok to watch a solo episode since like every typical comedy serie all returns back to the way it was at the end of each episode.
Also while watching one you perhaps could watch another,Anthology of Interest 1 and see where Pixels lifted there plot from. Only difference is that Futurama did it well!

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Thanks for the forgiveness, I’m glad you won’t have to take me to church. Sorry this song just popped into my mind.

I’ll watch it soon, then! Thanks so much. I bet it’ll be a great first look into Futurama.

Shax

<3!

Ghostie

Oooh those movies are excellent. Been years since I’ve seen any of them so I guess I’ll have to go re-watch them. :)
If you want some more time-travel movies I recommend The Time Machine (1960) & Time Bandits (1981).

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Akantha, you’ve got some refined taste! One movie contains George Harrison and the other is based off of an H. G. Wells novel? Blimey! Thank you so much for the more than fine recommendations.

uguleley

Twelve Monkeys has been so long in my bottomless pit of must-watch films and I still haven’t seen it.. it’s shameful, really. I partly blame my Netflix not offering it in my region. :)

Congrats on your backlog progress and thanks again for the varying style of recommendations!

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Oh, I know how those dreadful bottomless pits work! It sounds like something straight out of Neil Gaiman’s Coraline, doesn’t it? I hope you watch it soon!

Thanks for the congrats and you’re very welcome on the movies. (:
