YAY for holidays! :D
After months of basically no-playing, I spent a night awake to finally fix my laptop. I was lacking time so these past few months I put some patches here and there to let it run but now it’s back to the same state it was in summer :) (or so it seems)
The first thing to test, of course, was videogaming! =P
I would’ve liked to play more but there are relatives and friends who want to have social interactions.. can you believe it!? :v
Even so, I managed to complete 3, albeit short, games :)
-
85/100
-
75/100
-
75/100
All of them were ranked pretty high in my to-play list :)
- was as good as the first.
Being very focused on puzzles, there’s no wandering around thus the conveying of the story is kinda weak. That is the only negative aspect of the game, but the rest is so good you can forgive them for that =P
I’ve only played it with a mouse but I think it would be better with a touchscreen. Even better with a VR set (sadly, I don’t think these games support it) - I was expecting a bit more from .
I don’t mean it’s a bad game, and I don’t know what I was expecting that the game misses, but I had this impression. Perhaps I was just too hyped from the trailer (I even traded for it; it was, like, my third trade of a game ever)
In the end I’ve enjoyed it, it was silly to a turn and it wasn’t long enough to become boring. Negative aspects to me were the lack of subtitles (if they were present I totally missed ‘em!) and a bit too much backtracking. Given the nature of the game, all the rest can be forgiven, as it usually blended with the mood. - was nice but a bit short. not short per sè but short for the elements introduced during the game and left unexplained. Surely it has been made like that to leave room for a possible sequel, but I doubt it will ever see the light.
Had some problems with camera placement and entering/exiting shadows, which led me to repeating easy parts of the game more than I should have.
I bought The Room Two during the last sale and haven’t gotten around to it yet. Glad it’s not disappointing. Personally I really loved Maize, one of my favourites. There was a bit of backtracking though. And Contrast is on my wishlist. Seems we have similar taste!
I had bought both 1 and 2 together but didn’t want to play both of them right away =P So i kept the second untouched for a while :)
There’s also a third and a fourth installment (this one only for smartphone atm) ..so there’s even more to play! ^_^
In the end I’ve liked Maize, don’t know why it left me with a bitter taste :\
Perhaps, as said, I was expecting something more after seeing the trailer.. also, I may have missed some jokes due to the lack of subtitles (those corns speak fast! their speeches were hard to follow) :(
also, I think I was a bit disappointed by the fact that I had to play with the lowest settings.. I remember I was not very happy at the start of the game.. like «eh, this game is that heavy, yet there’s only crops all around» ..but then my mood started to change, fortunately ^_^
I wondered about there being more to The Room. Hopefully they release them for Steam eventually.
I know I watched the trailer but I think by the time I played Maize the only thing I remembered was that it look bizarre and potentially funny, so that helped. Thankfully I didn’t have any issues with performance, but I suspect it could have been better optimized. And yeah they did talk fast in parts so subs would have been nice, especially if English isn’t your first language.
Congrats on getting your laptop fixed!!
I have fond memories of Contrast, even if I remember the controls to be a bit wonky, but I really liked the artstyle and atmosphere. It had me hyped for We happy few when it was first announced, but then they went with the crazy price rise and the gameplay isn’t really what I was expecting, so i didn’t get it in the end.
Is The Room an escape room situation puzzle game? (where you need to find how to get out)?
Thanks :)
hopefully it will last until I can afford a new one *fingerscrossed*
Yes, but it’s very focused on puzzles (you basically don’t go around, just zoom in/out from one puzzle to another), not like some others I’ve played that had different rooms and you had to move your character around.
Some people may dislike it but I like that they don’t try to increase game time by making you walk from one location to another with nothing inbetween, as it happens in some other games (not necessarily puzzle games).
Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like an interesting genre of game, i’ll try to have a look.
YAY ^_^
You’re welcome :)
How did you calculated that estimated reading time? :o Some script based on number of words or something else?
And Happy New Year! ^^
Happy new year ^_^
I used to time me while reading a new post and using that time, until someone here linked me to http://niram.org/read/ :)
You paste your text there and it gives you an estimated time. I’ve tried it with some older posts before adopting it and I’ve gladly noticed that its times were very close to mine (even exactly the same in some cases) so now I’m using it to save some minutes :)
You had to change parts in laptop? Or was it software / thermalpaste / loose parts problem?
Fortunately, this time was only software fault. Even if I’ve noticed the HD started making strange noises from time to time.. hope it won’t abandon me!
Took me a while because the previous times Windows failed, I was able to use that “repair Windows” function while this time it didn’t work.
So I first had to move data to another place, then format and re-install.
The former took about a week, the latter much more -_- I couldn’t find the right OS version for my key so in the end I surrended and installed another version and was planning to not activate it, as I don’t think they limit your actions very much. Stupid me didn’t check properly and installed a 32bit version though! took me a while to realize it, until I got tired of using a suddenly slower pc.
Then I spent a whole night awake to solve it and installed Windows 3 times -_- (since I was at it, I collected some keys from computers I had nearby and tried until I managed to find a working OS-key pair)
Now I just need to save enough to buy a new one, since this is almost 9 y.o. =P
Yay for Contrast! Not a perfect game but still it left me a very nice impression. And that camera played some tricks on me too haha xD
I should have taken some screenshots too. It seems like it still looks pretty great visually!
I’ve liked it and I’d like to know more, so I hope they’ll made a sequel someday :)
Hopefully fixing those weird behaviours! =P
Taken some.. still deciding if and which one(s) to upload, or if they’ll pass the rest of their existence inside my HD like thousands others XD
