BLAEO review finder
So, I had this idea in my monthly update to create a sheet that gathers reviews from posts through forms. Because posts get push down and disappear as time go by, and it’s quite hard to find reviews for games you’re consider playing but want to hear what others’ opinions are first.
Click on the drop down arrow beside the column "Name", choose "Add filter" and type your game.
If you are looking to submit your reviews, go here and fill out the form.
If you didn't find the game in the list, it probably hasn't been added yet. Fill out the Games form instead and continue with your Reviews form.
It’s not really a review finder, more like a review database but I just went with the name cuz it sounds cooler. :blobsweat:
This took longer than I thought. I originally wanted to make a website since I’m studying computer science and it’s a great way for me to get off my lazy ass and actually do some personal projects. But then I got into the process of looking for a free website hosting service with database, and then having to learn it and then finding out that it doesn’t have all the functionality I wanted or I ran into a problem that I can’t resolve and can’t find a solution online.
Tried 000webhost, WordPress, GithubDB, Firebase. Maybe it’s just that I suck. facepalm So I said fuck it, I’m doing google forms instead. Nice and easy. But……it’s not. Google sheet doesn’t really do what I wanted since it’s just excel, and data looks ugly unless I process it but I don’t really have that much knowledge in excel, and in my mind really the data is stored in database format. So I found this site. Took quite a while to set up everything and test them out. But I’m quite happy for the result. :3 At least I actually got something done and out for personal enjoyment instead of giving up.
I do need everyone’s help tho. I will try to import posts into it, but I am only one person. Well, come to think of it, another way I can do it is to learn crawler and try to use that? xD I’ve seen other people use it and I think it can do stuff that I want? I’m probably gonna bang my head against the wall again from the frustration if I try tho. ;-; Sometimes I wonder if I should really be studying CS……Orz

Suggested features like subscribing to users, searchable posts, and others mandrill already talked about on Steam discussion would do wonders for sorting content on BLAEO. Not to mention open up possibilities if you wanted to do something more regular like Let’s Plays or something that would depend on bigger community input aka voting for results or some such. Thanks for bringing this matter up and giving it a go, 86maylin. Database is never something to scoff at.

The work you put into this is really amazing - whether it’s eventually made redundant or not. What you learned is valuable, and your endeavor to help the community is heartening!
I would love to contribute… but I have a lot of posts. If I happen to have a spare moment I want to zen myself out, I’ll go back and pick out my most worthwhile reviews and add them in

Love seeing people contributing and continuing to expand on features and ideas of things to add/improve. This community can only get better from here! Exciting to hear more stuff is always in the works. :)
Is there an edit feature? I messed up the ratings on my first submission >.< I even read the instructions on how to rate it and I still did it out of order. It’s not a big deal since I added ratings in my post anyway, but it’s still bothersome >.<

Is it only the first one(one with A Hat in Time) that’s in the wrong order? Or the others are also reversed?
EDIT: Oh, seems like it’s only the first one from what I can tell from the posts. Thanks for your submission. :3 I’m slowly importing some of the reviews done by inactive members under the assumption that they probably won’t be active any time soon or have the passion/patience to upload all of them. Hope that’s ok with them. ><

Btw, did you put the ratings in the order of your post? e.g. in your post containing Chroma Squad, is the rating 9 for Daily Chthonicle, 6 for Kaptain Brawe and 4 for Chroma Squad or in reverse order?
Reverse. So it’s per-input and not in order they’re displayed?
Yeah, the games that you added previously gets pushed down so it’s in reverse order of you adding it. It’s alright cuz I decided to change the requirement of submitting it so hopefully there won’t be as much confusion since everyone seems to have asked me what order they should put in. ^^;
Uhm, before you sink too much time into this: I do plan to make posts searchable and taggable, and if all works out, auto-tag old posts with mentioned games (there’s a forum post about this somewhere, too lazy to dig it out right now, writing this from mobile). Anyway, that would make your endeavour much easier, or maybe even redundant. Downside of course is, we all know how good I am at timely delivery of promises like this 😬 … So … Just wanted to tell you, now, please do carry on, the idea surely is good!

This is more like a personal project I challenge myself to do. I’m quite free atm since it’s summer vacation and I’ve never really been motivated enough to do any projects on my own, so it’s quite nice and definitely worth the effort I put into it. :)
Even the process of banging my head against a brick wall is quite ok. Since at least I stumbled through a lot of stuff and that’s an experience on its own. :3
