Interlude 5: A Very Yakuza Christmas

Merry frickin’ Christmas, BLAEO! As 2018 draws to a close, I wanted to take a little bit of time and space to wish you and yours the happiest of holidays and the warmest wishes for the new year! This year has had a lot of ups and downs for me personally, but it’s left me feeling prepared and optimistic for what 2019 brings.
One of the things 2019 is bringing is a shit ton of Yakuza, thanks to the wonderful bounty of games my girlfriend gifted me (the goober pictured above). I want to pay that shit forward, and so I’ve made a giveaway for Yakuza 0 for BLAEO members only, ending at midnight of the new year! I’ll be sending the game out the next day.
Let’s all head into 2019 together, and make it a kickass year!

I’ll pass that along to my mom! They were her idea… and I was against them at first. They’ve grown on me by now.
Oh yeah, it’s going to be all yakuza all 2019 for the games Madison and I play together. I’m really lucky she likes them as much as I do, it’s great to not just have one thing I’m Super Into, but have it be something we share.

Haha my mom had a couple pinecone “ornaments” as well that you’d just stick into the tree, they had lil sewn mice attached. They were great at hiding any of the thinner spots! That is awesome that you can play it together, makes things that much more fun and memorable. :) Thanks, definitely!

Dead Souls took a little bit to track down - and kinda sorta. Y5 is only a digital download off PSN. A good friend of mine is long-term loaning me his PS3 on New Years’, and we’ll download it then.

Hey Merry Yakuza Christmas to you. I have Yakuza 0 wishlisted, because it seems like as good a place as any to dip my toes in and I’m pretty intrigued. But sometimes I find after you’ve played a later game in the series, it can be a bit clunky to go back to an earlier game. Like with assassin’s creed. I started with AC II and couldn’t ever finish AC 1 later on, just because the gameplay was so much better in 2. Hopefully that won’t be the case for you.
Appreciate your concern! Yakuza 3-5 and Dead Souls all use the same engine as Yakuza 0 and K1.
While yes, there might be some features that are different here and there, the gameplay won’t be clunky and tsu should feel right at home!

I’m thrilled that 0 is where I started. I have a particular love n fondness for 0 that makes even later games (Kiwami and Kiwami 2) with a better, more updated engine and more realistic fights feel…. well, I dislike it because it’s different, and I know that, but I still dislike it. I’m getting over it, though.
It could be a sense of a Goldilocks kind of thing where Y0 will always be ‘just right’, but esp since I play these games for (surprise surprise) everything but the gameplay I’ll be all right. (I’m more worried about the older models!)
Yeah it’s funny how a lot of series have that ‘one’ game that just nails everything so perfectly. I’ve not played any Yakuza games, but it seems like a lot of people agree with your assessment of 0. It’s still awesome to play all the other games, but you’ll always have a soft spot for that ‘one’.
