March’s Stats

aka. I think I have an addiction problem

Hi fellow assassins, I’m Sheepy and I’m a spire slayer… There you go, I said it. I have developed a massive addiction to Slay the Spire, and it has taken a toll on the backlog slaying this month. I still managed to finish a few short SG wins, but most of my gaming time went into this. Let’s hope I manage to cut on this next month and make better progress on the rest of the backlog.

How’s march been for you guys? Any game addiction?

Slay the Spire

69 hours playtime, 20 of 32 achievements

Let's jump right into it, shall we? The biggest chunk of my gaming this month was this really addictive roguelite deckbuilder, and I can predict I'll play a lot more of it in the upcoming months. It's my new Binding of Isaac time sucker. In case you haven't heard of it, the basics are pretty simple. You run up a dungeon map, picking up your next step between a selection of events available to you to go through the 3 floors of the spire while building your deck of cards as you progress. Rince and repeat. Sounds simple enough, right? Well it is, and it's also very addictive. Ask Kaleith. Highly highly recommended, even tho it's still in EA, it's a really great game.

Pang Adventures

ABC 5 hours playtime, 5 of 9 achievements

When I entered the giveaway for this, I think the nostalgia factor was a huge part of it. I had fond memories of playing Pang as a kid, and I was excited to try that nice looking remake. Well the nostalgia factor is a fickle mistress, because I didn't really enjoy this game after the few first stages, and I couldn't wait to get through it. Not bad, just not something I enjoy anymore. Still not a bad remake if it's your thing.

Into the Breach

9 hours playtime, 11 of 55 achievements

Before I got addicted to Slay the Spire, it's one of the games I was most hyped about in the recent releases, as I was really into FTL (and this is from the same dev team). This game is really great. I'll describe it as a mix of Advance Wars and chess game. It will eat your brain away if like me you keep wanting to reach the best outcome, but in the most enjoyable way if you like tactics games. It is really great and so satisfying when things go your way. Definitely a highly recommended game.

Cats are Liquid

4 hours playtime, 14 of 16 achievements

I'm not sure if I'm just not the target, if I'm missing something or if it's a meme, but this game was really not something I'd recommend, yet it has really good reviews on steam. It's a plateformer with a few extra game mechanics, very minimal graphics and some wanna be profound story behind. I'm sorry to say I was really not impressed and just wanted to be done, but at least it's another SG win beaten.

The Novelist

2 hours playtime, no achievements

I enjoyed this game even though I didn't have the impression your choices had a high impact on the outcome of the story as I wish they did. It was still a nice short narrative game where you spend a summer with a man facing the hard choice between his dream career and the sacrifices it would imply on his family life. I thought the choices were a little too black or white and even what the game called compromises were not taking in account the possibilities you'd have in real life to make both things work. Anyhow it was an enjoyable experience for me overall.

The Away Team

2 hours playtime, 3 of 10 achievements

So this one is a mixed bag. I really wanted to like it, as the premise of a space text based adventure sounded good to me, and it had a great potential. Sadly the game has a lot of bugs (and I talk about bugs making your game crash completely) and the replayability is not that great, because of the lack of variety in the events you encounter (or I was really unlucky). I still managed to reach two different "win" endings, as well as a few failures. It's not a bad game per se, and the writing is actually entertaining, I just think it wasted part of its potential.

How’s march been for you guys? Any game addiction?

Nope, never had that problem.

EvilBlackSheep

LIES :aaa:

IcyGlare

How’s march been for you guys? Any game addiction?

I thought I’d finally be able to clear my backlog again last month but I became busy with NieR:Automata. I blame you! :p Seriously, March was great insofar as gaming is concerned. :D

EvilBlackSheep

Oh yes, I read your post about it and it reminds me I have been wanting to leave a comment there for days, I need to find where the open tab is in the million i have open!! I was excited you enjoyed the game :3

Forsaken

I’ve done pretty much 0 gaming on March with the exception of Hidden Paws which is a very cute 1st person hidden object game developed by one of the nicest and most engaged-with-customers developers I’ve seen so far. Though the motion sickness was through the roof so I had to play it in very short bursts.

I did finish like 4 books though! So March was very very fruitful for me :)

Congratulations on your progress :)

Ps, why does The Raven have to be so expensive? :’(

EvilBlackSheep

You didn’t play Ghost of a Tale? I thought you would have since i know you were waiting for its release (I haven’t had the time either though). I’ve heard about Hidden Paws in the cooptional podcast I think, and it does look super adorable. I’ll add it to my wishlist!

Good on you on the reading, doesn’t it feel good? I saw you updated your goodreads page the other day, I was happy to see that. I slowed down on the reading due to being away for a week and then being sick, but I still managed to finish 2 good books and a really interesting manga.

And thank you :3

PS: I got mine for a few euros from a trader before the remastered edition got out, but i’m not sure if now getting an old key still grant you the remastered edition :/

Forsaken

I don’t know if you have been following Ghost of a Tale announcements but up until now there have been about more than 10 or so updates and yesterday’s update broke player saves so they reverted it to the previous-to-last update until they fix the latest update to make it work with previous saves. I haven’t played it yet because I’m in a massive reading frenzy mood which I’m enjoying a lot but from what I’ve seen on announcements so far I am at least spared the hassle of bugs. I’ll play it eventually though but definitely not at the moment as I am not really in a gaming mood :)

Yes it feels fantastic! Now that I am much more dedicated to reading than before, I started updating my Goodreads page to keep track of things. Sadly I don’t even remember the names of some of the books I read so I wish I used it before. Right now I don’t even remember which Splinter Cell book I read last :/ I’m following your progress too, to see if I can maybe find an interesting title that you have read :P

EvilBlackSheep

I hadn’t been following what happened since launch, but now you make me glad i didn’t start playing yet. I’ll do like you and wait out for it to be well patched.

If you’re into thrillers, I highly recommend the last one I read, The woman in the window, it was pretty good!

Forsaken

Added it on my “want to read” list. Thanks a lot for the recommendation.

EvilBlackSheep

You’re welcome, that’s how I find most of the books I read (either friend recommendation or looking at what other people read on Goodreads)

ninglor03

Well, I got just yesterday back to playing Sims. We all know where that might lead me… So… uhm… Maybe hooked up again? panic mode on

EvilBlackSheep

Ah! Another assassin soon to be trapped in a single game. BE STRONK NIN.

ninglor03

I’m actually trapped in a booby trap right now. Playing Max’ Big Bust - buuuuut that’ll be over soonish. And then there is nothing to stop me! More or less, I guess :]

malabagaa

Thanks for the info about Pang Adventures. I was kind of interested in it for the same reason as you, guess I’ll skip it now :)

About The Novelist: I’ve played through only once (it was soo hard making those choices for me, wouldn’t have the strength to play it again), but I’m pretty sure your decisions do have an impact on their lives once they leave that house. For example: the novelist could become a famous writer, or a mediocre one, or I think he can even drop the writing altogether if you never choose him. Their bond can strenghten and they can reunite, or they can end up divorcing. The wife can become a famous painter; the child can be a succesfull adult or one with some “problems” (like self-esteem, if I recall correctly). Those are very different outcomes :O
As said, I’ve played only once so I’ve not experienced them myself but I’ve read about them on a long, very well-written, article about the game – which I couldn’t find right now, sorry :\

EvilBlackSheep

You’re welcome. I really wish i hadn’t succumbed to the sirens of nostalgia on that one.

For the novelist, I agree on the final outcome but I mean more during the game, I’d have liked the choices to lead to less drastic outcomes. I’ll look into the article about the game, should be an interesting read. :)

Orkestra

I had exactly the same opinion after finishing The Novelist : it felt like you could either work on your novel and make it good (hopefully) or take care of your family and never bring your novel to an end. If I remember correctly I also felt weird sometimes having to chose between my (in-game) wife and kid… Anyhow it still managed to be an interesting game.

I’m totally avoiding Slay the Spire as my long-lasting addiction to The Binding of Isaac (both versions) seemed a little bit overwhelming in the end and I’m not really willing to fell in the same rogue-lie trap twice, haha ! I’ll certainly buy *Into the Breach at some point though because it seems a bit less addictive (as was FTL for me, even though it’s an amazing game)

I’m waiting for your review of Treasure Adventure World now ;)

EvilBlackSheep

Yes you better stay away from the spire… or not. IT’S SO ADDICTIVE!!! Yes, even more than Isaac.

Quisty

Hello, Sheepy!
I’m Quisty and I have a The Long Dark addiction that remanifested itself this month :3

You still made some nice progress though. Congrats.

EvilBlackSheep

Hi Quisty! Welcome to the monogamers anonymous. I’m sure we’re gonna get over this. Eventually…. r-r-r-right?

(and thank you)

Sheep~~:blobnom:
I’m addicted to idle games. Help! D:

EvilBlackSheep

Oh hey HAI sheep!

And ouch, you’re in an even more advanced state, I’m sorry to say we might have to amputate! D:

Kaleith

How’s march been for you guys? Any game addiction?

Uhhh…

Well it is, and it’s also very addictive. Ask Kaleith.

Oh I don’t have to answer \o/

EvilBlackSheep

glares Or do you.
