2016-10 Report
My strategy of attacking my backlog alphabetically (A-Z) didn’t work as well as I thought, so this month I went back to attacking it chaotically. I think I need to go back to my first strategy of attacking my SG wins with achievements in the order that I won them. Remember when I challenged myself and all of you last month to not add a single game to our libraries this month? Well, I succeeded! Did you? Technically I had a new game added to my library because the special edition of Skyrim magically appeared there, but other than, nothing! See for yourself below:
My last SteamGifts win was on September 22 and I haven’t entered a single giveaway since then. I’m so happy with the results that I’ll continue this challenge next month. It’s finally starting to feel like there’s an end to this backlog. Are you with me this time?
And I also completed this month’s Scavenger Hunt. It was really enjoyable and I had a lot of fun doing it. Hope we can see more of these in the future! My screenshots below:

Also, new layout incoming! I love it so much that I’ll go back to change all my previous posts to this layout.
By the way, would anyone be interested in helping me get some Left 4 Dead 2 achievements next month? I played a bit with Adelion and tso184 during the weekend and was able to get some, but I’m still missing a lot.

Games that were both added and removed this month are not included in this count.
Score
My score is the sum of games beaten and completed this month, and The Backlog’s score is the sum of games added this month (including the ones both added and removed).
The Backlog was assassinated this month!
Love the layout. Bunch of information available at first glance and VERY readable.
Hey, most importantly - no new additions to the backlog.
Thank you! I was really compelled to adding some games, but the urge to end this backlog was bigger.
Oh yeah, that’s a sleek format. Gives the post a nice, even spacing. :)
I admire your success with 0 additions in your library this month, that’s the absolute best strategy! I wish I had the strength to do the same, but I can’t resist buying awesome bundles - like the humble from last saturday. So good.
Actually, that brings me to another question: is Broken Age difficult to beat or not? I remember reading about a complex puzzle in this game, but I don’t know if it’s for a certain achievement or required for progress in the story. I’m yet to decide whether to add it in my library or give it away later.
Have you tried avoiding visiting those places? I’ve stayed away from my wishlist giveaways page on SteamGifts the entire month, because I know that if I access it and there’s something good, I’ll want to enter.
Oh yeah, forgot to add that in the post, but it’s there now. The puzzles become very difficult in the second act, and some of them are randomly generated each playthrough. I had to use a guide to solve some. There are achievements for solving some puzzles on your first try and for beating the game in less than 1 hour, apart from a ton of missable achievements, but the good news is you have 8 save files to use if you mess something up.
Yeah I guess avoiding to see any sales would help a lot, but at the moment I’m happy if I can at least keep finishing more games than I’ve added on a monthly basis. :) Thanks for the additional info on Broken Age!
You are in for a treat with the metro games. Try the ranger mode if are masochist enough.
If there are achievements for that, I’ll definitely try it. If not, I’ll pass. Playing games in high difficulties is stressful to me and takes away the fun of the game.
I saw a similar design yesterday and I’m loving it so much that I might do the same as you: change every post to this format (although i’m afraid to it becoming so popular that it becomes boring).
Either way, congratulations on the progress! I’m seeing that you and I have some games in common (you played SR4 and Broken Age and are going to play Metro 2033 and L4D2, I have SR2, SR3 and Metro 2033 to play soon and just bought Broken Age…) and I’m happy to see other’s people opinion on these games! I almost never played Left 4 Dead 2 so if you want one more I can gladly help (although I’m not gonna be available to play that much in the next 2 weeks…).
Unfortunately, I totally forgot about your dare and added some games this month: Bought Skyrim Legendary Edition, won Child of Light and bought the Humble Day of the Devs Bundle (added Oxenfree, Grim Fandango, Titan Souls, Broken Age and Massive Chalice… oops?
Thank you! We can play next weekend if you’re available. Ah that’s quite a lot of additions. Child Of Light is really good though.
I love your new layout!! I’ve been thinking about adopting some similar layout for my weekly post and going back to fix ALL of them when I finally find a design I love.
Congrats on the progress and on holding to your dare and not adding any game to the backlog. It’s very impressive :)
I tried to hold your bet for not adding anything to the backlog this month but failed pathetically HOWEVER it was still a great motivation to keep the expansion tamed and even beat 3 of the said added games immediately. So overall it was positive and helped me get my second victory over the backlog (monthly report post coming soon).
I think I finally found that layout, so that’s why I’m going back upgrading all the posts. I’m also deleting most of my posts to keep only the monthly reports. My profile is going to look much cleaner.
Thank you! Sad to hear you weren’t able to pull through, but at least you got a victory, so that’s nice! :)
Hmmm… that layout looks familiar! ;D
I like the addition of the screenshot line. I think I’ll borrow that in return.
Great month for you!
Heh, I had no idea you were using a similar layout. I guess that’s what Godciaz meant. xD
I can help you with the L4D2 achievements. Just tell me when. Hope the timezone is not to much of a problem
I am going to embrace my backlog and make it grow big bigger and biggest.
Also I am up for L4D2 experiences.
I’m putting an end to it. :P Cool, we should play some next weekend. :)
