Backlog Assassination : December 2020
January is finally here and the only remnants of the pasts weeks celebrations are the leftover in supermarket at -50% or 2 for one, and the increase of unwanted gifts sold at a lower price on eBay. I don’t know for you, but December is always a little complicated for me and this one was no exception, beside for me and my partner finally getting engaged privately through a Laic ceremony (which isn’t an official ceremony, but something between us). I hope that you had some joy through that difficult and stressful month and could make good memory despite 2020 being how it was.
I wish you all a happy new year and hope that joy will come to find you regardless your hopes for this new year. We can all do with positivity in 2021 !
ANYWAY
This is my last Backlog Assassination for 2020 and as I’m also very curious, I would love to know what was your favorite game of 2020 ♥

- The Window Box : Gorgeous arts for this very peculiar visual novel. A group of five estranged friends meet up for a meal and you get to observe how they changed and how the past can be mended.. Or not. There is a really interesting way to tell the story which goes beyond classic VN, instead there are mini games and point & click discoveries which made this game greater. I’m eager to see more coming from the Sundew Studio.
December is gone and now we can focus on a new year which hopefully will be better than the last. It would be easy to hope that 2020 won’t leave this mark onto 2021 but the world is still under the pressure of this year, so I’m encouraging to be prudent regarding your health and your family.
Sometimes, we have the tendency to forget the good and only see the bad, so I suggest you to find good news or uplifting news and read a few when you feel troubles. I leave you with one article to read called “What went right in 2020: The top 20 good news stories of the year”.
Thank you, I wish you all the best for 2021 as well. Also, huge congratz on your engagement! Pretty cool :)
Thank you for your good wishes, I’m hoping that this year will be enriched by what we learned in 2020 which is thinking of others before ourselves and the impact we can have in our surrounding by avoiding unnecessary pollution.
What was your favorite 2020 game ? Was there one you would encourage me to try ?
Oh wow, the second one is a good question. My fav game I played 2020 was Factorio. What would I encourage you to play? Phew…I don’t know your taste good enough to really feel comfortable enough for a suggestion…Maybe you’d enjoy “A Case of Distrust”? However, I know that some people like it, including me, and some people think it falls a bit flat. But I guess that’s the best recommendation I have atm :)
My partner played Factorio for some time and he seemed to like it, it’s not my cup of tea. However I’m pretty sure I’ll love “A Case of Distrust”, I moved it higher to my “I really need to play those game” ladder, thank you for your recommendation ♥ !
Hopefully you’ll enjoy it! Glad to be of help.
Congratulations on the engagement! I think we all need more good news in our lives, both for us and for others. Seeing other people happy should make us feel better about the world :).
For the game I don’t know about 2020 releases, since I am a r/patientgamer, so always play things late. My favourite game of those I played during 2020 was no doubt Subnautica.
I’m a late gamer as I began to use Steam only two years ago so it’s not a ‘problem’ to me if you enjoyed a game which wasn’t released this year. Is Subnautica any close to Abzu ?
Only real similarity is they are underwater games. Subnautica is a survival game, which can get pretty scary sometimes, with a nice story to complete. I loved it, but if you are afraid of water or fishes it’s better to pass, it can be too intense :)
Interesting, I would be terrified after 3 seconds in but XD !
Congrats! Wishing you and your fiancé all the best for 2021 🥳
Favorite game I’ve played in 2020 is probably Salt & Sanctuary, although I didn’t 100% the cheevos; and I doubt I ever will because of one specific achievement.
Thank you ! I’m sure I would stay dead within the first 5 minutes of Salt & Sanctuary and not managed to go further lol. I played “Raindancer” which is a $1 game where you fight boss, maybe you’ll like that one (and it won’t empty your wallet !)
Congratulations and have a great new year you two :)
Thank you ! I wish you an excellent year as well ♥
Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
Fits to both game from 2020, and the one I liked best in 2020.
I played the first Ori and have the second one in my library but didn’t have the time to play it (the fact I lost my controller during the move doesn’t help !). I definitely want to play it as soon as I can, I loved the first one !
Wow I am very impressed with how many games you got through. Also congratz on your engagement, hopefully this year will get better soon
Thank you. To not forget that there are good news around the world, sometimes weirdly thanks to the pandemic, I subscribed to good news newsletters to receive upbeat and positive news every day. It’s been something that helped me to go through 2020, as the consequence of confinement was me losing range of walk.
The beginning of 2021 will certainly not be amazing as we’re still in the middle of a pandemic, but a vaccine is ready and things will slowly get back to normal, with the positive addition to people awareness regarding their health, the one of their family and how they can have an effect on their surrounding. 2020 was a bad year for sure, but also a lesson that we should take in account.
I played a lot of small games and we don’t celebrate Christmas here so it wasn’t on the way, our engagement happened the 28th of this month which I’m very glad about.
Now I have a question to you : What was your favorite game you played in 2020 ?
If I base it on my 10 top post I’d have to go for ni no kuni 2. Since I pretty much beat it in 2020 I also class tokyo xanadu as the best. Both games are massive jrpgs but I loved every moment. Never have a felt every single character be so important then in both of those games. They were both gifts that I was so lucky to get
I won the first Ni No Kuni, I should definitely give it priority :)
I got it picked for pop so I’ll be moving onto that soon. Think I need a little break though since I just went from 2 super long jrpgs and don’t wanna move straight to another. Considerin all my games for pop they aren’t the shortest so we will see, might be sooner then later I get onto it since once I’m in, I’m in
When I need a break I play a HOG XD !
