"End of 2017" report
I’ve been meaning to do this update for a while, I think I meant for it to be an October report from the start, then October+November, but hey, let’s include December as well ;)
I finished a few games during these months. I was quite busy and didn’t have as much time for gaming these months as I’ve had on average during the last two years. Still, I had a great time with these games:
-
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
-
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition
-
Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter
-
Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY Edition
-
Rise of the Tomb Raider
-
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
Witcher Trilogy status report
I’ve been writing about my progress in thel Witcher Trilogy, playing all three games back to back.
As you can see in the above game list, I’ve finished the first two games now, and right now I’m about 10 hours into the third one. Loving it! After next week I’ll also have 10 or so days where I have quite much spare time, so I’ll try to get up to 50+ hours in The Witcher 3, as well as playing a few other games :)
Talking about other games, I had some extraordinary luck on Steamgifts in December, and won these eight games:
-
NieR:Automata™
-
Divinity: Original Sin 2
-
Sid Meier's Civilization VI
-
RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard / BIOHAZARD 7 resident evil
-
RimWorld
-
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier
-
Wargame: Red Dragon
-
Human: Fall Flat
Amazing! I’ll try to finish all of them during 2018. Really looking forward to it.
I’ll make a summary of 2017 as well as a plan for 2018 in future updates. See you then, and have fun slaying your backlogs :)
Damn. Looking at your playtime of Witcher 1, looks like I’ve spent way too much hours on it (~40 hours). How does the second game feel compared to the first one?
Second game is beautiful. And terrifying. Drinking cats eye potions 24/7 when it gets dark. (I’m a wuss.) ;w;
The first one’s cave/dungeon areas are nigh impossible to see without Cat’s Eye, unless you keep on using Signs to light the way lol.
Really interested on continuing onwards to Witcher 2 but really afraid that it will consume a lot of time. Choices, choices.
I did very few sidequests. I usually don’t play games that way, but I really wanted to get to Witcher 3, so I kind of rushed it a bit.
The second is much closer to Witcher 3 when it comes to gameplay. Combat is very different from the first. Controller friendly, more fluid, and fun. All aspects of the game are easer to get in to. Graphics also took quite a leap, after playing both 2 and 3 on PC, I’m impressed how good Witcher 2 can look.
I see, a sizeable amount of my playthrough was spent on finishing some sidequests. Though looking back maybe I shouldn’t spend that much time on it lol.
Considering Witcher 2 was made when CDPR hadn’t achieved its current fame, I’m astonished by how the game looks on the screenshots. Does the complaint about the game’s combat hold water? I remember reading how it can get chaotic at times.
Looking at your progress report makes me want to continue my Witcher trilogy playthrough sometime this year though! Grats on your progress.
I think the combat in Witcher II was decent. I didn’t play at the hardest difficulty setting, so I can’t comment on whether it’s chaotic then. I managed pretty good in combat, died a few times, but I don’t recall any frustrating moments. One boss fight was pretty tough, but it was just about learning the moves and coming up with good strategies for dealing damage. Nowhere near as hard/frustrating as a boss in a souls/soulslike game can be.
Nice progress, and really nice wins too, hope you have fun with them!
Nice wins! I’m playing Divinity Original Sin on co-op right now and its a lot of fun. Human Fall Flat is also a blast on co-op and probably really fun single player too. Hope you enjoy them!
Thanks! Not there yet since I’m not done with Witcher III yet, but soon, really looking forward to playing them! I don’t play much multiplayer games, just local same screen (“couch”) co op some times.
Wow you’ve got lots of great games to sink your teeth into! Enjoy and hope you continue having a blast with Witcher 3. :)
Didn’t see this until now, hehe. Thanks, going well so far as you’ve already seen :)
Wow, those are some incredible wins! Well deserved too, I hope you get to enjoy them soon :D
Thanks a lot! Kind of annoying that I “can’t” play them right now due to Witcher III taking up all my gaming time, but at the same time - I’m having such a good time playing that game, and it really deserves a full 150+ hours playthrough! Even if I could finish 10-20 other games during the same time. I’ll get to them later, that’s for sure :)
Awesome bit of backlog conquering here. I envious you’re going on to play Witcher 3 as I still have to wait :P
Still, wasn’t Witcher 2 some serious badass? I tried to play the original Witcher years ago and dropped it after a couple of hours. When I picked up the second, the series was completed redeemed in my eyes. :)
Congrats on a job well-done!
I waited a while myself before starting to play it, It was worth the wait in every way. Kind of wish I would have started it earlier, but now is a pretty good time.
Others recommended me skipping the first game, and looking back, I wouldn’t have missed out on much if I did so. It was a pretty good game, and good to have some more backstory, but it was not in any way essential for the trilogy.
I started The Witcher 3 a few nights ago. Really enjoying it so far! :D
Cool! I know the feeling of finally starting it, such a good game! I’m at 121 hours now, and getting close to the end of the main story. I’ve done every sidequest possible :D Except for the expansion stuff, I’m doing that after I’m done with the main story (although I heard that the Hearths of Stone expansion will fit better a bit before finishing the main story than after, but I heard that after beginning the end phase of the main game - too late!).
My “end of year summary” also consisted of several months write-up, going back to August even XD
For a person with not much time, it’s still a substantial progress, especially that those are long games that you played :)
And congrats on the wins, some great ones indeed - have fun! ^_^
Thanks a lot!
Well, I probably compare everything to 2016 when I had a lot of time and played a bit over 20 hours per week on average. Just did the 2017 summary, and in the end I got through 50 games, with over 800 hours spent, which is still pretty high :)
I had a couple of months around the end of last year where I didn’t have much time at all for gaming, that’s looking better now. I think I’ll probably be able to play at least 2-3 hours/day 4 days per week now, and I really need that time since I have so many games I’m looking forward to playing :D
It hurt me to play the first Witcher. You are strong to have put 27 hours into it.
It was a bit clunky, but still some nice story to it, and decent graphics, especially considering the age of the game.
