December/January report

Hello Assassins!

Had to skip December (real life strikes back), so here is short summary of my progress in the last two months

Beaten

  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

    187 hours playtime

    78 of 78 achievements

  • Half-Life 2: Episode Two

    8 hours playtime

    22 of 22 achievements

  • Quantum Break

    17 hours playtime

    42 of 42 achievements

  • Assassin's Creed Revelations

    27 hours playtime

    no achievements

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt*: there are so many reviews of this game that I'll try to keep it short. It has few issues but it is a great game, and probably the best game I have played so far. It is also massive, I tried to complete all quests and it took me stunning 187 hours. My advice is to play Witcher 2 beforehand - you can get it really cheap on sales and if you like it you should also enjoy Witcher 3. Additionally it will help you understand who are the NPCs you meet and what they are talking about ;-)
Mskotor has written a very good and lengthy review here, where he also gave pretty good hints for mods - I recommend "All quests on the map", "Disable storybook videos" and "Fast travel from anywhere" (but be careful with this one).

Half-Life 2: Episode Two: IMHO it is worse than Half-Life 2 and Episode One but still quite enjoyable. Collecting achievements is a bit annoying though.

Quantum Break: Great story with refreshing approach to time travel, very nice visuals and gameplay. Except for the last fight which is so annoying it earned itself dedicated threads on steam and game forums. Beware though that Quantum Break is half game, half movie - there are many cutscenes and an actual (long) movie fragments with real actors.

Assassin's Creed Revelations: very similar but a bit worse than AC II and Brotherhood. It is alright but from technical side it is a piece of garbage - it has its share of bugs and I had a lot of problems with game crashing or Uplay not being able to connect or start the game. Additionally V-sync is causing screen tearing (!) but if you disable it you will experience more crashes…

Thank you!
Though my backlog has grown significantly while I was playing Witcher. Damn those good games given away for cheap (or free)! ;-)

Yayy I’m glad when people beat Witcher 3. I just beat it myself and it’s just phenomenal. I agree with the mods mostly. Especially agree with “all quests on map.” That saved me tons of time and stress.” I’d say don’t do the “Fast travel from anywhere” mod. My friend tried that one and it permanently broke his fast travels. The fast travel in the game isn’t so bad, plus downloading the mod might make people miss out on a lot of the events when traveling on foot or horse. I’d also recommend the “no fall damage” mod because Geralt has some real issues with gravity xD

It is alright but from technical side it is a piece of garbage

That’s sad. I’ve played all the AC games on console and they worked flawlessly. I like playing on PC much better, but ubisoft seems to only break their own games on PC.
I’m glad you enjoyed Quantum Break though. It looks really really fun.

I used the fast travel mod mostly when I was in some remote place and did not want to run to the nearest sign. I’ve checked after finishing the game and apparently I missed only 4 quests, but I do not think it is related to this mod (especially the quest with talking Roach is hard to stumble upon). But for sure, one needs to be careful while using this mod, for me the rule of thumb was that I can use it safely if there are many routes I can leave the place I’m in (i.e. out in the field is safe, but inside caves or buildings is a definite no-no).

It’s weird, all the time I see people mentioning “no fall damage” but I cannot recall having a problem with falling myself O_o

Yes, Quantum Break is really cool, provided you’re in it for the story. Otherwise cutscenes/movies may be discouraging (there is one that takes like 15 or 20 minutes).

I’m amazed you beat the Witcher 3. I need to start working on 2 again.

There is nothing to be amazed about, it is a great and enjoyable game :-) I liked Witcher 2 very much as well, hope you will enjoy it.
