Notes

I released a new BLAEO+ update in September that adds ProtonDB and Steam Deck Verified integrations, as well as blacklist and auto list sorting features. I’m currently working on a way to automatically categorize games by their HLTB times, something PoP members will really appreciate ;) sadly i was a little too late for this cycle but it will be ready before the next!
After that, I think that will be it for BLAEO+ updates since I’m out of ideas, save for some bugfixes or improvements for existing features. That being said, if you have any feedback or suggestions, I’ll appreciate it if you post it in the BLAEO+ thread on the Steam group.

Zelrune

Congratulations on all of your assassinations!!! If you want to join the POP cycle I’m pretty sure they still allow entries, there’s a backup list of pickers available as well! What was your favorite finished game? Hollow Knight and Firewatch I know were both really good. Any plans for Spooktober?

kubikill

Thanks! I made it into the cycle earlier, I just couldn’t finish the BLAEO+ feature for automatically adding games to lists based on their HLTB time to beat.

My favorite finished game was Disco Elysium. I loved the idea of having skills as voices in your head that give advice on what to do and there were so many interesting mysteries that I could hardly put the game down. Plus some of the dialogue and things you can do are just too funny xD

I don’t really participate in the monthly themes but conveniently, one of my PoP picks happens to be Costume Quest 2 so I suppose there’s that :D Maybe I should pick at least one game for each monthly theme? Those themes can be interesting sometimes.

Amitte

Ahh, The Pillars of the Earth!! Here’s to hoping another person loves it as much as I do!

kubikill

I just finished the first book of the game today and I’m really enjoying it so far, the story is very good and I can’t wait to see how it continues :D

Amitte

I can’t wait to replay it! I bought it again on the PS4 and I might buy it a third time on GOG in the future. Looking forward to hear more after you’re done :D

kubikill

I’ll let you know once I’m finished :)

kubikill

Hey, I finished Pillars of the Earth :) I really liked the story and all the twists that came with it, I’m actually tempted to read the books now, however gameplay was a little too slow for me. The art and voice actors were splendid too, sadly I can’t say the same about animations. Too bad the studio that made this game went under, they knew their stuff with games like this but that Gollum game was too much for them to handle :/

Same here! There hasn’t been a story quite like it in a while, is what I would say if I was the kind of person who’s always on the lookout for good pieces of media… but I’m not, so that checks out even more in my case (what am I even talking about…)

What did you not like/find off about them? Most I can offer (about art, not necessarily just animations) is that I supposedly got a few history nerds to drool over the accuracy after I recommended they play it, haha.

I can’t believe this is how I learned that freaking Daedalic made that game… then again, I guess I haven’t looked too closely into it. Is that official, are they not going to be making any other games?

Yes indeed! Ken Follett actually made a few more books that are set in the same universe as Pillars of the Earth so those might be worth checking out in that case :)

They seemed somewhat stiff and barebones. The art itself was great though and all of it seemed accurate to the era.

Yes, they shut down their game development department just a month after the release of that Gollum game, but from what I saw, they’ll continue to publish games.

I’ve been on a lookout for the first book for a while and I’ve seen the sequels pop up as well… for some reason, though, it feels as if I’m more excited about looking at them than I am determined to actually get one. There are so many different editions, and yet none of them look right to me; they’re either all in vaguely medieval-looking patterns, not quite the right color… or the TV show poster cover. shudders

Wah… and here I was hoping they would eventually release a new addition to Edna and Harvey… what about the Deponia spinoff, though? The Steam page lists them as both devs and publishers for that one…

What’s the difference between all of those editions? Just a different cover on the front? Or different translations, hardcover/softcover/paperback? Covers sure look fancy but in the end, it’s the inside of the book you’ll be looking at 99% of the time. :)

From what I saw, they still plan to finish that game. Last news was published in November where they said the game will release fully instead of going for Early Access. They are making that game in collaboration with a different studio so I guess they didn’t want to just leave that studio hanging.

Different covers first and foremost, some releases are split into the three books, some are hard, some soft cover. I will say, it’s probably the fact that I like the game art so much more, and most of the book covers don’t even have a similar color scheme. And then, like I said before, I’m probably just more excited about the idea of looking for it than I am about actually reading it… not much of a reader, at the end of the day.

Aaah, gotcha. Damn, that’s still a real shame. Oh well, I still have a bunch of their games in my backlog…

Whoever was picking the cover clearly wasn’t aware about the game art being superior. :) Or maybe they didn’t have the rights to use it… oh well.

They’re still working on it, so we may still see something about of it. But so far there were a lot of people who did not like the shift in genres. Worst case scenario, we’ll just have one less game in our backlogs to worry about.

If I had to say, it’s probably that even the latest release came out before the game did. But yeah, the first book in the series is black and blue, and even though one of the later books is black and orange, it’s just… it doesn’t sit right with me.

But so far there were a lot of people who did not like the shift in genres.

It’s a cool idea, considering Deponia is a wasteland overrun with junk. But yeah, as someone who spends most time playing exclusively casual games, I have to say it’s a hard sell. Borderline impossible, even. (lol)

Thank you very much for the BLAEO+ update! Great and really handy update <3

And congrats on your progress as well :)

kubikill

You’re welcome, thanks :D

Mitsukuni

+1 Thank you very much for the ProtonDB update, really appreciated!

Congrats on assassinations. I would expect Dark Messiah to be longer, I guess I should take it down sometime sooner. :)

kubikill

You’re welcome :D

I also thought Dark Messiah to be longer, even though I took my time goofing around with the physics on some levels, and some time also went into trying to get the game to run well on a modern OS - it crashes very often out-of-the-box but fortunately it gets stable with fixes from communuty guides.

Andy

Really appreciate your BLAEO+ script! Using it with pleasure :3 And ProtonDB + Deck status integration is pure awesome! Thank you!

kubikill

You’re welcome, I’m glad to see people find it useful :D
