Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical

Great game, more of a visual novel, musical novel maybe? All interactivity comes from choosing places to go and selecting dialog/singing options. It tells a compelling greek urban fantasy story and the songs pretty good and the characters interesting

Yuppie Psycho

An interesting adventure game by Baroque Decay, I am in the credits of their previous game, The Count Lucanor as i did some testing for it, and as that game this is a horror game with an unusual setting, Count Lucanor, being setted in a dark medieval castle, and this one being settled in an office building, both with the presence of the supernatural, yuppie psycho is quirky and weird too, love when horror and comedy mix, and this game does a good job of mixing it, while having good puzzles and and interesting, albeit overdeveloped for my taste, story that sometimes is pretty obtuse as the rules for progressing through it, it’s not that common but some paths are blocked by pretty random stuff, like talking for the first time with one of the game’s vendors before talking with some other random npc in a rarely visited corner of the building blocks you from getting a collectible, it’s not a big deal but i was going for 100% and this pissed me off

But overall this is a good game, with a cool story, some light puzzles and a good horror comedy setting though it won’t outright scare you, it does have its creepy moments and I do recommend it.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

I feel like this game has an identity crisis on all fronts, in some parts it wants to be a cinematic linear thing, in others it want to give you the freedom of exploring a large open map but with some metroidvania elements, that for the most part are things i enjoy but i feel like the game didnt implement them well, another example of good ideas and bad implementation is the “voice-over immersion” option this game has that makes it so that characters speek in their native language, this game taking place in south america has a lot of spanish and native tongue speaking characters and as a spanish speaker i thought this would be really cool but again this game doesn’t know entirely what to do with this feature, not a lot of -important- characters use their native tongue, most of the important ones just speak in english and when some spanish or mayan or whatever is used it makes no sense, like you having a conversation while speaking in english to a mayan kid that only speaks mayan without issue, i get it that Lara understands him but not the other way around and at some cases i realized that the game just translated the english original script into spanish (or whatever language it needed but i don’t speak mayan or quechua) without any regard for the actual meaning of the words, ie there is a conversation that you are having with one minor spanish speaking character about another less minor peruvian (but english speaking in the) character and the spanish speaking one says when the english speaking character comes into the scene “look who just came over” in spanish while the subtitles say “speaking of the devil” and then the english speaking character says “you know i’ve always been an angel” wich makes sense if you only go by the subtitles but not if you actually understand both languages aaah i went on a rant but this was really bad for me, the “voice-over immersion” breaks the immersion more often than not.

Now overall this is a good game, the combat is good, the music is good, the story is really good. I personally really like the mayan/incan themes and find them to be quite different from the norm and feel that are quite well represented so i don’t want to dissuade anyone from playing this, my biggest gripe was with the voice over immersion thingy but that isn’t even turned on by default so it wouldn’t be the normal experience with this, it’s a good finale for the survivor trilogy

STAR WARS Jedi Fallen Order

Okay so this is the polar opposite to tomb raider, i wasn’t expecting that much but was really surprised, is really really fun, it makes you feel like a jedi, the story is good and canon incredibly, i really really recommend this game, can’t wait until jedi survivor is as cheap as a sandwich so i can get it

Unavowed

Ah, wadjet eye games, i love this company, they make really good classic style point and click games, they have done so for almost 20 years. I’ve played all of their games at least that they have developed and I own all of the ones they have published too -except for Emerald City Confidential™ and for some reason it doesn’t appear on their publisher page and if you click on the Developer on steam for some reason it redirects to EA -, i will get to them in time tho.

Unavowed feels like the culmination of ideas inside Dave Gilbert’s head, i actually met Dave Gilbert in a conference years ago just when Unavowed came out, he gave a talk about it and i even talked with him but I hadn’t played Unavowed yet and it’s too bad because i really feel like this is maybe their best game, not my favorite i think tho, like really at this point Wadjet Eye has mastered Adventure Game Studios, such an unpopular and “weak” engine and they rock with it, it reminds me of what people can do with RPG maker, people be crazy man.
I really like the game, narratively is one of the stronger ones and even when you can kinda create your playable character with different backgrounds and you can take really different approaches to most puzzles, and you can bring different characters to “quests”. The puzzles are great. They leave you thinking but are not too obtuse. I love P&C games but I always need a walkthrough at some point. Not with this, I was able to get all of it even if some puzzles left me scratching my head for a couple of minutes.
The characters are all interesting (I am an Eli fan myself) and well written, the story is a great urban fantasy adventure, the music is nice and yeah, play it, it’s great. I do have one complaint though, It’s mostly a budget issue I guess but some of the voices are recorded with not the greatest of microphones, specially one of a baker midway through the game, that sounded rough but still, play it.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake

I have a soft spot for spongebob, I like the cartoon a good bit but what i really love is it’s music, that polynesian style summery vibe just resonates with me for some reason. This game in particular is pretty good, i think i liked the remake of battle for bikini bottom better but this one i almost there, a good new story, fun gameplay tho a bit easy it has some challenge if you want to get all the achievements.

Kenshi

My god, kenshi, where do i even begin, I freaking love this game, i’ve been obsessed over it for like 6 months, if not playing it then watching youtube videos about it and if not that then just reading the wiki. It’s an extremely slow burn RPG-management-simslike, you need to take your time in this post-post-apocalyptic world, everything is out to get you and it will get you but the world is just so interesting and having to piece the story out by yourself makes every new city discovered and every new ruin a story worth looking for, you can play it however you want. Be it a solo samurai build or a massive settlement management style city builder with commerce and stuff. Though not completely balanced for all those playstyles the community is huge and passionate and there are mods for most things you would want. I cannot recommend this game enought nor well enough as it is a huge thing, its riddled with bugs but has some serious quality. The second one is in development and I can wait for it because even after 420 hours I think i could play this game for a long time, its just my first run of it and i still having done nearly all the stuff i want to do in the world

I was also positively surprised by Fallen Order. I really enjoyed the first part of the Tomb Raider reboot so I’m afraid by what I read on your review, but I’ll tackle Shadow and Rise of the TR eventually :)

Vasharal

This was a good month.
