First post - Hello BLAEO!
Probably my entire gaming life I have had some kind of backlog and as a competitive gamer and I CANNOT LET THIS STAND!
… well maybe I can, but I hereby stand by my word as a semi-completionist to summon all my willpower to do something about this backlog for a bit before the next Steam sale comes around and I probably have an even higher percentage of unplayed games… ach well, it’s worth a shot eh?! ;P
Not sure how I’m going to structure my postings here, but I plan to do something each month at the very least. Maybe game of the month, or an update on what I’ve played/started/finished/given up on or a review of something I’ve played recently… time will tell!
For now, hello, goodbye and I’ll see you around!
(P.S. I see all you guys with your fancy posts, I wanna learn how to do that! Any tips welcomed for fancy-pantsness)
.
Welcome to BLAEO!
Like Blue said, inspect element(or view source for better view) is really useful~I’ve stolenborrowed plenty of codes from people and made them my own edition which is super fun. :3
Also, there’s a tool that generates html codes that might be helpful to you called BLAEO Generators.
As for posts, don’t worry. Just do them at your pace. Some people do posts whenever they beat a game, some do weekly/monthly. It’s all up to you. :P
Oooh that generator looks like it will be pretty handy. I like the look of all the banners on your posts, super slick and neat! Thanks for the tips! :D
Yep, beg/borrow/steal all the fanciness! And if you’re feeling too unoriginal as a result, modify it to your heart’s content! …or until your patience runs out, whichever comes first!
As a person who used to deal with web things all day every day, and then didn’t for a long while, I like the way lots of code things do work, but lots of other code things don’t. Experiment!
And if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, Bootstrap is what you’re looking for to do some advancedy things. (Again, lots of things won’t work though. Find workarounds! Or ignore this paragraph! I’ll even put it in ˜spoiler tags˜ (Markdown, not Bootstrap) to make ignoring it easier!)
I like to make a post when I scratch one of my big kills off my smallish list of 26 titles to beat for the year, including all the other games I beat in the meantime in the same post. But sometimes the big ones takes too long and I end up putting up a bunch of small wins. Or do whatever!
Oh, and welcome! As an avid fan of the number forty-two, it’s good to have you here! :)
I use the number 42 a lot! And everything else HHGTTG related!
Bootstrap looks a little advanced for me at the moment, I’ve never really messed around with this stuff before. But I’ve bookmarked it and will defo make it a longer term thing to mess around with. I like the creativity in these kind of things so even if I don’t end up using it, it’ll probably be fun to try out!
Welcome to BLAEO.
You can use BLAEO Generators to create game bars, panels and game boxes. For more advanced stuff you’ll have to know how to use CSS or HTML or like others suggested you can “steal” other people’s stuff by inspecting elements of their post.
Defo gonna do some stealin’ and some learnin’, thanks for the tips! :D
Welcome, have fun kicking your backlog’s butt. :)
Thanks, I will certainly give it a shot!
Hello and Welcome to BLAEO!
I wish you all the best for your battle against that nasty backlog! (Let’s be honest, we all love it, since there are ALWAYS games waiting for us, that are supposedly/probably/maybe awesome!)
I can only give you one hint for the “awesome” posts: mark them, and then look at the source code, that’s how I came to the style I use nowadays ;)
Also one can do fancy stuff with the Generator - I’m just not… er… managing it drop See, I’m better with copy and paste! :D
Anyways:
Happy backlog killing!
See you around :)
Nin
Thanks Ninglor! It is a nasty backlog, but I never learn my lesson and keep adding to it!
I do love having lots of games to play but feel sometimes these addictive multiplayers get in the way of me enjoying the epic RPG’s and such like that I enjoy so much!
Oh yeah. The evil adding helps the mean backlog keep the upper hand -.-
Ha! I’m just the same. But! I haven’t touched any MMO in more than a year, which I’m pretty proud of happy
Ah nice one! I dabble with MMO’s but nothing is as good for me as WoW, which I played as my ONLY game for 5 years haha! I don’t play any more though and thankfully most of my friends have stopped playing too otherwise I would probably be deep in the next 5 year stint by now! :D
Yeah, WoW… it’s always a bit like coming home sigh I try to ignore any hints of returning there though.
And yeah, I confess, I also played the Star Wars MMO - and miss it - and Lotro, which I don’t miss as much \o/ :D
Hello and welcome to the site. It’s a great site for reviews and keeping track of you backlog!
Do you know what you’re going to play first/next?
Thanks Vito!
I do like the game tracking, looks nice on a profile and there’s some fancy posts out there that I hope to copy emulate one day. I especially like the look of the star rating on your posts! :D
I’m currently playing Gorogoa (SG win), Dark Souls 2 and Dishonored 2 so hopefully get one of those ticked off pretty soon! I’ve got about 20 games that seem to be perma-installed on my HD at the moment though, so I’ll probably just get distracted again! XD
As for games to get back to/start next probably Pillars of Eternity 2 and Kingdom Come Deliverance.
★★☆☆☆
I always copy them from my last post after I looked them up once. It’s very interesting to look at other people’s posts and see what one can do with HTML. But a bit time consuming, so I mostly stick to the aforementioned BLAEO Generator nowadays :)
I once watched someone stream ‘Gorogoa’, it definitely looked interesting! I hope you’ll give us a review of the game once you’re finished :D Yeah, getting distracted was one of my main problems as well, but BLAEO really helped me to stay on track with my games and most of the time I now finish what I (re)start. As I said before, it’s a great place to help organize and battle your backlog.
Welcome ^_^
Thaaaaaaaaanks! :D
I use the Blaeo Generator and it works great! You can make progress bars, game boxes, etc etc just by filling in the info for the game.
Def gonna be using the generator for my first proper post. Looks like a super handy tool! :D
Welcome :) You already got some amazing recommendations from the helpful community.
What I did was basically steal the code from the user who I thought made the best looking posts. Took me ages to get that code to its current stage with my own take on it due to 0 code knowledge but it happened eventually.
Just make sure to not get yourself burned out like I did. All that struggling with codes for days on end made me almost quit writing reviews altogether.
Also “For the Horde” I hope? ;p
Thanks for the welcome and always FTH! ;P
Welcome to BLAEO :)
Most tips have already been given to you but I agree with them, just look around, steal and adapt the code from the posts you like most and maybe save it as a template for the next time you wanna use it, it’ll save you a lot of time. Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need, a lot of users here are friendly and will be happy to help you.
Thanks! Is there a way to save templates on this site (couldn’t see any) or do you just do it on a Word document or something? :)
I just have a .txt where i copy pasted my code template ;)
tips- personally I prefer to mess around with inline css for hours wasting all my time as I spend more time trying to structure a post then I did playing the game :3
but jokes aside if you like something someones done inspect element and steal it for your own
personally backgrounds dont work that well unless you find something super super matte and light.
*I made the mistake of trying to structure all my abc posts the same and while some worked well
For Example This One
others looked so bad
this is horrid
now I’ve just been coloring all mine random colors and being done with it-not cause having random colors is nicer just cause they stand out
can’t be bothered to do much else
good luck
Hey Blue thanks for the tips!
I like the look of the plain shaded backgrounds and I’m def gonna play around with that inspect element thing. Only ever brought that up as a mistake previously when mashing keyboard buttons but it seems fairly easy to copy over bits and pieces to one of my own posts!
