Can you believe that my Library is actually a 1/3 - 1/3 - 1/3 split right now?
Looks cooler as a circle tbh
I find it truly fascinating, that after all this time I decide to go through all this work to organize my library just to see I dropped exactly one third, never played another third, and finally played a third of my games. How does this even happen?!
With all the stuff I amassed over the years I expected to have dropped a lot more actually.
There are multiple factors that make me drop games. For one.. they are just bad or not my genre (horror or survival games for example).
I also dropped games that would have been interesting, but have way too much work or difficulty involved, when it comes to getting all achievements.
One example of that would be
One of the Achievements here reads:
Play 20,000 games
…..
Yea no thanks.
If you are brave enough to open my dropped list… What games do you think I should definitely give a chance and for what reasons?
Maybe I dropped something I would hate to miss.. Is my stance on achievements too rough?
Well so now with the kind of cool stats out of the way.. Time to look at a more depressing image
My steamgifts stats…
You may now actively shame me for joining giveaways of (objectively) actual garbage and/or games I am not actually interested in.
Yea.. I don’t know what to say. Well except that I am trying to only enter wishlist giveaways at this point…
My comment keeps disappearing so screw this nonsense. Short of it all I totally get the achievement thing and sad to see psychonauts and bioshock there
Oh and that your 1/3 split is amazing even if it is dropped instead of like unplayed, beaten/beat and unfinished
why does it keep disappearing o_O anything I should look into? or just connection issues or sth on your end?
should be just my end. was doing stuff else where I returned to see it disappeared and then the 2nd time was definitely my fault
I saw a full playthrough of psychonauts as a substitute, it was kinda cool but not a game for me.
Bioshock is there because of the horror aspect. Or is it not as bad as I imagine it to be?
I consider myself a real scaredy-cat and I played through BioShock just fine… then again, I didn’t play it at home, so I didn’t pay as much attention to the plot, as I probably would’ve liked. Aside from the occasional surprise enemy appearing, I don’t think it was scary, but to each his own.
Yeah I knew why bioshock would be dropped. I would have to agree with May (and others) though that it really isn’t that bad with the horror. While I was definitely tense at 1st it was like huh okay nothing is actually jumping at me. Even when you think there would be there just really isn’t. Plus with the difficulty glitch it can be a breeze to fly through with the achievements. I would also say the 2nd game is even less then a horror
I really enjoyed Ibb & Obb and would definitely recommend it if you have someone to play with!
Yea co-op and multiplayer games are dropped because I don’t have anyone to really play them
You have so many great games on your dropped list. Bioshock is a must-play with a fantastic story. The first Darksiders was is one of my favorite games with great characters and story. Batman games were awesome and fun to play. Are you only playing games you can 100% for achievements? If so you are going to miss out on so many great games for things that are pretty meaningless. I love to get achievements and will try to get them all if the game is fun but they won’t stop me from playing something.
thats why I’ve decided to just play them on alt account so if it doesn’t ruin the experience from worrying about 100% the thing
Worrying about the 100% achievement rating can become a problem. I went through it long ago as I mentioned below. Just remember to have fun.
Bioshock is dropped because Horror-Game. Though maybe it’s not as bad as I think? It certainly isn’t resident evil…
I didn’t enjoy what I played and saw from darksiders and batman doesn’t interest me at all.
Achievements are a big factor, but I won’t always drop games if I do like to play them. See Tomb Raider for example
I don’t see Bioshock as a horror game but maybe more of a suspense, mystery, thriller type. If you don’t care for the darker games then no worries. I have friends who will not touch any horror games.
I’ll tell you from my experience with achievements from when they first started on the Xbox 360 is that they can take over and erase the fun you had with playing games. I was a cheevo whore and I was trying to complete every game 100% and I got burnt out. I quit playing any games for a while. Now I do enjoy getting them but the game has to be really fun to complete them all.
I agree completely!
Also I believe that dropping a game just because it has some high numbers or difficult achievements is a bit… silly, to say the least. I have games with multiplayer achievements which I wont open as I don’t play multiplayer. I play games to enjoy the story. :)
Let’s see…
I think Audiosurf is a pretty nice rhythm game, even if in the end I didn’t grasp all of its mechanics ^^; I agree with everyone else on trying out BioShock; Brutal Legend is pretty much the perfect game for a fan of true metal (although again, I didn’t get the mechanics + I don’t listen to metal myself); Koi-Koi Japan might not be the best-looking game, but you can do it even without really retaining the actual rules (speaking from experience); Mirror’s Edge, well… whether you’re good at it or not (I’m certainly not), it’s worth trying out just for the idea; Paladins are just “discount Overwatch”, but then again, I don’t consider myself to know much about such games and enjoy it the way it is; Shadow Warrior is just a really great game imo, I had tons of fun playing it (weapon variety ftw!), The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit - it all depends on whether you’ve played any of the Life is Strange games and if you enjoyed them or not; and last, but not least… I’m fighting for all the HOGs and point-and-clicks! Are you not into the genre? If you haven’t tried any before, I recommend you do now! :D
Oh, and also - I noticed a few free games on your list - if you’re certain you won’t play them, you can remove them in “Account Settings” > “Show licenses and key activations” (dunno what that’s actually called in English, sorry) - after a refresh BLAEO shouldn’t recognize them as part of your account anymore :)
they will still pop up on blaeo until they locate the game and remove those deleted games though. Only 1 needs to be found and then you are taken to a whole page of all the deleted. Would definitely cut some of the games though and they are easy to get back if restored
In case you ever wondered why it’s like that: The sync can’t know if you actually removed the license, or if the game was removed from the API but you still have it in the client and can play it, or if the Steam API just has a bad day and the game will reappear later. Looks all the same, never trust Steam.
… but maybe you already knew. Just felt like explaining because I clarified that particular info box just yesterday :)
nope didnt actually know but interesting. now I see why they ask you to confirm if its not in your library anymore
Well, yeah, just figured I didn’t need to mention that part since I assumed anyone would look at their full game list eventually… or am I just weird like that?
hmm understandable. When I did it my stuff was so small that it was easy to notice those games weren’t deleted. idk how it would be for someone with a bigger set of games
The pop-up should always show up after the scan notices a “missing” game; however, recently I refused to delete a bunch of those from my account (because I definitely still have them; they probably just went under Steam’s radar again) and the pop-up didn’t appear more than once, if I remember correctly.
I own Audiosurf 2, so I don’t see a reason to keep the first one.
After playing mirrors edge a little bit but also seeing so many speedruns of it I also didn’t have any interest in it left actually.
I actually have a lot of Point and Click adventures in both completed and my planning list, the ones I dropped I dropped because they are so similar to games I still plan to play
You could still play the first one for the easy achievements, I dunno.
Ah, I suppose it would do that to you eventually. I’d imagine it’s ungodly hard to manage playing it using a keyboard, too.
Similar? Which ones, exactly? Even though I’m standing up for the whole genre, I must admit I don’t think I played enough yet ^^;;
These games that mix point and click with “search these things on the screen full of stuff” (without achievements) are the ones I dropped.
Which games did you complain about me dropping in particular from that genre though?
“search these things on the screen full of stuff”
Those would be hidden object games (aka HOGs) :D
Which games did you complain about me dropping in particular from that genre though?
None in particular, really… I only played Samantha Swift and the Hidden Roses of Athena, but that one was child’s play imo (possibly because I tried it out in the past already); so ultimately, it’s still your choice whether to try it or not. It is a SG win though…
You’re missing out IMO for skipping horror games :P SOMA and Amnesia are both exceptional horror games, Alien Isolation is a great game overall and a fantastic recreation of the world from first Alien movie. F.E.A.R. is one of the best FPS of the last 20 years and it has some good scares here and then, but not that much IMO ;) The expansion Extraction Point improves the horror aspect a lot IMO but shooting parts are a little worse.
FTL: Faster Than Light - give it a try, there’s no steam achievements (only in-game) and it has a lot of replayability. It’s easy to learn and there’s a ton of ships and configurations to unlock.
W40k: Dawn of War is a classic, you don’t need to be a W40k fan to play it, it didn’t aged that well visually and maximum res is 1600x1200 from what I remember but it’s worth a shot if you like RTS. There might be mods for higher resolution but I’m not sure.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown is turn-based, tactical game with a squad of 4 to 6 soldiers, it’s different enough IMO if RTS is not your jam. Thought 100% it requires at least 5 playthroughs if I remember correctly, so if you care about that - get ready. It was also one of my favorite games where I just turn sound off and listen to podcasts/videos in background since you don’t really need sound after one playthrough
Trust me.. I tried to play Amnesia, but I just couldnt play for more than a few minutes at a time. The atmosphere was just way too creepy for me. I know, I’m pathetic. I just couldn’t deal with that game
Hmm well maybe you could still give F.E.A.R. a shot :D You have a gun so you can always shoot at any spooky stuff to make yourself feel better! And like 99% of them can’t actually kill you :P
Captain Spirit is great if you like Life is Strange.
Dishonored is one of my favourite games, really enjoyed the stealth and story. The different abilities are neat, tricky to pull off but satisfying.
Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe was great, the story and game mechanics were more involved than I expected.
Cave Story+ I’d lost interest in it myself but gave it a go and definitely understood why so many people loved it. Charming, still holds up today imo (though the harder difficulties would be tough, specifically for the final bit of the game.)
FTL: Faster Than Light - I’ve watched way more playthroughs of this game than playing myself, but it’s a really nice roguelike, I think the 38k positive reviews speak for itself.
Super Meat Boy is another favourite, though I get difficult platformers aren’t for everyone. Really responsive controls.
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number while it suffers from a couple issues compared to the first (like some enemies shooting off screen) is still a lot of fun and great soundtrack.
Regarding the achievements it’s pretty much all on preference, if you feel like you’re missing out on games and it’s making you unhappy. Personally I’ve put off quite a few games because of achievements but I’ve been really trying to get over that. I have way more fun dipping in and out of games or just playing them without worrying about checking a guide constantly or spoiling myself. Found it was really impeding my enjoyment, but if it’s not for you hey, you do you. :) I just needed to remind myself it’s a hobby and for fun, if it’s not anymore then I’m doing something wrong.
I think as long as I have this huge of a backlog it’s fine to sort using achievements as criteria. Battle Chef for example requires multiplayer, I’m never happy about that.
If I ever manage to get my backlog to be a managable size those games are a bigger consideration again.
Oh okay I didn’t even know it had multiplayer (besides showing high scores with daily challenges which are vs. AI), I must’ve missed that.
Have fun with the remaining games in your backlog. :)
Oh I confused it with something else lol. But the reason here was still achievements :^)
looks at dropped list
Bastion?! Bioshock?! Deus Ex?! Dishonored?! Witcher?!
How could you?!?!?! XD Such an amazing games, I love them!
But to be honest, you have there many games I am big fan of - DMC Devil May Cry, Alan Wake, Inquisitor, Tesla Effect, XCOM, Skyrim, Mark of the ninja….
I thought the same thing when I started looking through the drop list. Especially when I see some of the beaten games it surprises me to see certain ones on the dropped list.
Bastion has amazing soundtrack, but I’m not super into that kind of gameplay. But maybe I’m gonna give it a chance eventually.
Bioshock: See other replies from me
Deus Ex: Not so much into shooters, but the new one looked interesting
Dishonored: I don’t even know why, I just lost interest somehow
Witcher: Well Witcher 3 is one of my absolute favourite games, but the first game in the series is pretty awful in terms of gameplay, so I only played it a little and will read up on the story. I definitely want to do Witcher 2 though.
I’m gonna make a list of dropped games to possibly reconsider in the future.
Well Bastion has a little bit different kind of gameplay, but I learned to control it quickly. The soundtrack compelements the art and story very well.
Bioshock has great, great, great story and amazing surroundings! After you smash your first head you will be cool. ;)
Deus Ex isn’t just a plain shooter, you always have other ways to complete your mission. There is a lot hidden from the old games though.
Dishonored, that hurts. One of my favorite stealth games ever (Thief being the first one!), I have almost 170 hours on it… great story which doesn’t get old even with multiple playthroughs, gameplay has a lot of variation.
Heh, I don’t understand the hate (not you, I noticed it a lot on the net) against the first game. I have played each game when it was realeased and I still like the first one very much, don’t have any problems with it… I even miss some aspects in the newer games. ;)
One has to wonder how you get so many games that aren’t up to your liking? o.o
Lots of bundles, steamgifts.. and the biggest offender: Lack of self control during steam sales to buy anything that could be interesting without doing research
