#37 Play Don't Idle
I don't feel like playing games recently, which sounds ironic, because I play Isaac 24/7, but to be more specific, I don't feel like playing anything new that takes a 10 hour commitment to beat.
Being at level 37 I thought it would be nice to get to 40. I don't like odd numbers. So I checked the games that still have card drops and made a playlist, because I don't want IdleMaster to ruin my stats again. Instead of idling for pofitz™ I will play the games instead. I'm not sure if I'll just play them until I have all cards or end up beating them in the process. Actually I'm not even sure if I gonna pull through with my plan, but it's a good strategy on paper and I get to be active on the backlog front again.
With that being said - play, don't idle, folks!
Thats the way I felt but Isaac was Rocket League. I didn’t want to commit to a story and I couldn’t focus due to other reasons but RL just was easy to pick up and play. I like the idea though of playing and not idling. So from now on I’m going to “earn” the cards and not just make a program do it xD
Glad I’m not alone with that! And if the idea of playing instead of idling catches on it could become a group. Actually just because I made a logo out of boredom and would love to use it. :D
It’s a good way of thinking. A lot of people get into the habit and it’s nice to see someone breaking it! :3 Oh I love it DC, why don’t you make a group? :D
Why don’t you make one? :C
Cause I don’t have sick skills in making logos ;-;
You can have the logo I made. What’s your excuse now? >:D
I er… Can’t work computers… What is steam?
You’re back :D
Kind of? Let’s see how long that’ll last this time. :D
I stopped idling too kinda recently. :) It wasn’t as strongly planned as you, but I like the initiative. I’m gonna do the same thing and make a list. :3
I wish I would have never used it. Having over 10 hours on games I never even installed bothers me so, so much.
And thanks for joining the movement. :P
You could play it offline to balance the stats =P
That would be a solid plan :D
Agree, i stopped idling after 1 month in this group. Its other reason to attack the backlog :)
Good attitude. :)
Naaah… I’m going to continue idling games.
The credit received from cards means I haven’t spent anything directly on the Steam store in years.
If things were different irl I might join you but at the moment it makes no sense to do that (esp near Christmas).
The good ones will still be played regardless.
Fair enough. :D
I tried idling with a few games some time ago, I never tried any idling programs though. Then I kind of forgot about it, really. My backlog isn’t massive anyway so I don’t see a big total value in those undropped cards that I have. I’ll let them drop when I play them. :)
That’s how it’s supposed to be. :D
In the first couple of months on Steam I really was into trading cards, then didn’t care, then had over 200 card drops left, idled, ruined my stats, got 20€ and bought some games. Now I wanna get to level 40 and not care about trading cards for another year. :D
I took me a long time to start paying attention what the whole cards thing was about, I crafted my first badge out of cards at the end of last year. Nowadays the cards seem to have less value so it’s probably not as rewarding as it used to be, but it’s still kind of neat. It’s like a little minigame inside Steam. :)
I use the card drops as a timer. If I don’t feel like continuing after getting all card drops (or sometimes, even before then), I consider the game abandoned and uninstall.
That’s the spirit! I removed a lot of games, but these are all worth my time (hopefully)
And by the way… Could it be that Steam changed the rate at which cards drop? I had a few games that dropped cards way before the 2 hour mark and I played Stuntmania Reloaded for less than an hour and it dropped a card already. Maybe it’s because I activated the game with a key, thus the refund policies don’t apply?
Also noticed that. I think I got the first card drop for my recent games when I closed the game after launching for the first time. Didn’t really notice the subsequent drops because I liked those that I recently played and didn’t need the card drop timer. Not sure if there’s a difference for those bought from the Steam store and activated from keys. I bought Oxenfree and Epistory from the Steam store and the first drop happened before the 2 hour mark for both games, if I’m not mistaken.
That’s odd. Maybe something changed and I just haven’t seen any news about it. Not a bad change, though.
There has been reports of ‘bugs’ with card drop timers not working. Some have reported that when you launch a game, you get the first card almost instantly (in couple of seconds) and if you switch a game (IdleMaster or the old-fashioned way) you get a card for the new game similarly and so forth.
Personally, I use ASF (started because I kept forgetting to check if there were drops remaining and uninstalled games too soon… thanks, HOGs!) and sometimes I seem to get drops way too often. I’m thinking it might be that I usually have it on on the background and then I might play something for a while so it gives me the drop for the one I was idling, one for the game I started playing and one for the game I resume idling. Also, I think my connection drops every now and then and get drops for that too… Doesn’t seem to matter if the game is a key activation or from store.
Thanks for the elaborate answer! I gonna embrace that bug then! Stuntmania Reloaded isn’t really something I#d wanna play for 4 hours or more to get them all. I will wait for the last drop and put it to won’t play afterwards. :D
