Challenge me! Monthly Edition
previous

Get ready, we are about to start a new round for our challenges. Let's stick with the rules of the last round, but adapt to the current monthly theme

  • When you pick for someone, please select one game, that either has a Soundtrack DLC available (doesn't need be owned by the applicant) or has the user tag "Great Soundtrack"
  • You are allowed to ask a specific person to pick for you, but that person can only be asked to pick for someone specific once. For example: Mandril askes me to pick for him. I do that, but later Nelly also wants me to pick for her. I cannot pick for Nelly anymore, someone else needs to do that.
  • You are only allowed to pick for up to 2 members in total. So if you already picked for 2 and you are asked to pick for someone specific you have to pass and another member should pick the games. Exception: Nobody picked games for 24 hours.

The main goal of this is of course to motivate you to reduce your backlog and help you pick some games to do just that. And you can help others do the same!
If you've used the Steam group forums at all, you may have also seen a suggestion about profile badges, including participation badges for themes. We thought for this additional and hopefully regular) event, we will give out two permanent badges that basically level up the more you participate, one for finishing challenges (up to 2 per month) and one for issuing challenges/picking for others. Since badges are still quite a ways off, we'll keep an internal spreadsheet for now, so if we ever implement that, your "progress" won't be lost ;)

This round will last until December 15th.

Post your application for this month’s challenge as a reply here. Please before doing so, read the corresponding section below. Also, if you decide to pick games for others, read the corresponding section before you do so. If you encounter any problem with the games that were picked for you (either technical or if you think they don’t follow the guidelines) and can’t solve it with your picker, please leave a message as a reply of the first comment.

Applicants’ guidelines

  • Please make sure your games are sorted by completion before applying.
  • If you so desire and you have at least 5 unplayed SG wins, the 5 games can be picked out of your SG wins (instead of only 2/5). Just note it in your application comment.
  • Note in your post if you're ok playing multiplayer only games.
  • Same for Early Access (I know some people want to wait for release).
  • When you finish one (or more) of the games picked for you, please post an update by replying to your picker's comment.
  • If the game has achievements, you can link to either the Steam or Astats page corresponding to your progress.
  • If the game doesn't have achievements, please post a screenshot showing your completion.
  • Finally, if you have completed all the games that were assigned to you but want another go at it, feel free to post another application.

Pickers’ guidelines

  • You can pick for/challenge up to 2 fellow assassins, please refrain to pick more so everybody who wants get a chance at it.
  • You can pick for anybody who has applied and hasn't been given a list yet, unless they specified otherwise (see next point). It is recommended to signal with a "reserved" comment that you're currently picking for that person. This way it'll avoid the situation where you spend time picking games just to come back to somebody's comment 2 minutes prior.
  • Please use the following criteria when picking a list for somebody.
  • Length-wise: at least 2 short games (under 10h to beat) and 2 medium (under 15-20h). You can use HLTB to check the time, or more conveniently the Enhanced Steam browser extension (it shows the HLTB time directly on the game's steam page). That rule can be overridden by the bottom (i.e. pick 5 short games) but not the other way around, as not everybody has the same time to dedicate to gaming.
  • Pick two SG wins unless the person specified SG wins only, in which case pick only in the applicant's SG wins list.
  • Quality-wise: at least 3 of the 5 games should have a positive (or above) rating. You can use this site to quickly sort games in a user's library by ratings (thanks to JaffaCaffa for the suggestion).
  • Please, respect the applicant's choice regarding multiplayer-only and Early access games, as well as other requests (exclusion of certain genre etc.).
  • Please use the code below to post your comment, it's already formatted, you just have to copy/paste & complete the data.

For Pickers. Just copy paste and complete the data :)

FAQ

Do I have to participate in this event?
No, this is an event to help you reduce your backlog. If you already have a plan and don't want anyone to pick games for you, you're free to ignore it.

What happens if I don’t participate in the event?
Absolutely nothing.

What happens if I play all the games picked for me this month?
Still nothing. (You might get a shiny profile badge at some later date. And you can come back for another batch.)

What if I don’t have time to play 5 games?
Don’t worry, one is enough, we’re just asking the pickers to select 5 to give the player a little choice.

One of the game picked for me won’t run on my computer for X or Y reason, what do I do?
If this happens, please notify the picker by replying his comment and ask them to pick a replacement. If the original picker don’t give you an answer within 24h, don’t panic, just leave a comment and we’ll pick one for you. Meanwhile, you could try one of the other picked games if you haven't played them all yet.

I played all 5 games that were picked for me and I want more!
If you have completed all 5 games and reported your completion to the original comment, you can make a new request for another list.

When picking for other people, can I only pick “never played” games?
Not necessarily, you can also pick games that seem to have been abandoned but haven’t been categorized as “won’t play”. No beaten or completed games, or games being currently played obviously.

Why are there so many rules for picking the games? I can’t be bothered!
We’re trying to make this enjoyable for everyone so if you decide to pick games for others, please read and follow the rules. I’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for the pickers too, but if it’s bothering you too much, remember you don’t need to pick games for others to join the challenge.

I’m new here, can I join the challenge?
Yes of course (and welcome to BLAEO). Please just be sure to have your games sorted by progress before signing up for the challenge, to make it easier for your picker.

Problems? Please comment here

MouseWithBeer

I have a problem with this

>When you pick for someone, please select one game, that either has a Soundtrack DLC available (must not be owned by the applicant) or has the user tag “Great Soundtrack”

for a few reasons:

1.
> (must not be owned by the applicant)

Why? This makes no sense to me whatsoever.

2.
Due the fact that I am going to be playing games on a very limiting laptop (6 year old meh hardware + Linux) this is going to make it impossible to pick for me. Without the not owned part it I can come up with a handful of games, but with I can’t think of a single game that would apply at all.

3.
Connected to number 2. This is going to make picking games annoying. Edit: if someone is not on your friends list you can’t even check if the own the soundtrack DLC

4.
The first thing I do in every single game I have ever played is turn off the music. Doesn’t have the option? The whole game gets muted. So this might be the single most pointless challenge to me.

Feel free to ignore my rant … I just really really hate music in videogames T.T

Daerphen

my fault. Translation error. “Must not” should have been “does not need”

MouseWithBeer

Ohhhhhhh, dont mind me then, I take all my complaints back. I still hate video game music tho >.>

skanda

Noooooo, but there’s so much good video game music out there!

MouseWithBeer

Well I don’t really have a problem with video game music itself (except 8-bit music, I can’t stand that), just video game music that tries to play itself while I am trying to play video games :<

Blue Ϟ Lightning

shhhh skanda
shhhh

skanda

OF COURSE you showed up!

ninglor03

But some games are just waaaaaayyyy to annoying - music wise ;)

ylil

You should just replay it with the sound on already…

Tristar

Which game? ^^

ylil

ABZÛ 😱

ninglor03

I would like to challenge you, can I? :)

Daerphen

no, not enough time ;)

ninglor03

Meow. Alright :)

stef

I’d like to be challenged! Early Access and multiplayer only games are fine but no point & click or HOGs please :)

EvilBlackSheep
  • Steamworld Heist - HLTB Time: 12-15h (Not only amazing soundtrack, but also one of my favorite game of the year - Number one recommandation)
  • Seasons After Fall - HLTB Time: 5-6h
  • This War of Mine - HLTB Time: 10-14h (Today’s the anniversary of the game so it’s fitting)
  • Bioshock 2 - HLTB Time: 11-14h (Feel free to pick between the regular or the remaster)
  • Kingsway - HLTB Time: 5h (The only one in the list I haven’t played but I’ve been super curious about it and it looks interesting)

I hope you find something you like in this list, happy gaming ;)

stef

I didn’t get a notification for this lol. Thanks, those are some really nice picks!

stef

I completed Steamworld Heist! . I’m glad you mentioned how much you liked it, because this is one of those games I skipped over because it didn’t look like my type of thing. Turns out I really loved it though!

I’m either going to work on Kingsway or This War of Mine next :)

EvilBlackSheep

Victory, another satisfied player tried Steamworld Heist!! (It makes me super happy to read this)

stef

Beat Another one! I beat This War of Mine in practically one sitting, it was so good.

EvilBlackSheep

Nice! I hope it didn’t depress you too much:3 Who was in your group?

stef

It’s interesting how a game can not be “fun” in a traditional sense but still be completely engrossing. I had Bruno, Katia, and Pavle. Later on Marin joined the group. Marin and Katia were the hardest to keep alive because I could barely get my hands on coffee. They were both broken but alive by the end. Pavle was my favorite because i’m pretty bad at stealth so if someone saw me in a dangerous area I could get out quickly. Overall if the war had ended one day later Pavle would have died from his wounds so it was a tight stretch to the finish.

I’m going to try it again later with new characters. I’m not sure how different it’ll be but I heard it has some good replay value.

EvilBlackSheep

I know right, it’s always the game I use as an example when having the “do games have to be fun” debate.

Feel free to replay, it’s really interesting how the group composition can change stuff. I personally love Boris (and Marko too) because he can carry so much, which makes it very convenient at the beginning. Bruno’s cooking skill is non negligeable too.

JaffaCaffa

I’d like to be challenged please!

GiseIIe

reserved!

GiseIIe
  • Emily is Away Too - HLTB Time: 2h - u read the prequel so here’s the second part! SG win
  • Aerannis - HLTB Time: 5½h - this has the good soundtrack tag. I hope it is okay to choose since you have already started it. SG win
  • PRICE - HLTB Time: 1h - short but heard good things of it
  • Doki Doki Literature Club! - HLTB Time: 4 - 8h - and here comes the obligatory visual novel from me (─‿‿─) I’m not sure about the completion time. I also wanted to choose Loren The Amazon Princess, but I’ve seen that you’re missing the DLC (it adds a chapter with a couple of new characters and romances) and maybe you’d prefer to play it with the DLC?
  • Dreamfall Chapters - HLTB Time: 24h - I hope it’s not too long!
JaffaCaffa

Cheers! I look forward to playing some of these. :D

JaffaCaffa

Hey, sorry about the lack of updates! I beat Emily is Away Too and PRICE, will edit in mini reviews later.

I completely forgot I wouldn’t be able to play much during December on top of also reacting badly to new medicine, so really not feeling well. Gonna try to beat Doki Doki before time’s up if my brain will allow it. haha Wanna be able to focus, but it’s high on my priorities! Sorry about that, thanks again for the picks though and bearing with me. :)

Emily is Away Too - Beaten While I had some small complaints of this one (I understand why, but still annoyed me because forced into certain situations that made it less realistic), I enjoyed it just as much as the first one! I loved the internet, facebook and youtube additions (even though I was a myspace girl at the time). There were a lot of classic things like those honest survey questions and music videos. I’m sure I wouldn’t enjoy these games quite as much if there wasn’t so much nostalgia surrounding it, but the way the characters typed was so much like my best friends, brought me way back. So happy I won this!

PRICE - Completed It’s definitely good for a free game, but had I paid money I would’ve been a bit disappointed by the story. It’s okay, just never quite goes there (also being a translated work limits it some in English). The artwork is gorgeous though! That plus the animations and music put it on a whole other level and was pleasantly surprised with the P&C elements. Would recommend it if you have any interest.

EvilBlackSheep

Please challenge me. No MP only or Early access games please, and please if you can keep it on the shorter side as I’ll be away for work for 10 days this month, thanks in advance.

JaffaCaffa

Lemme know if I need to change something, hope you like them. :)

EvilBlackSheep

Great selection, thanks a lot!

Tristar

Ah damn I’m too late to pick Talos for you and it even has a great soundtrack ^^

JaffaCaffa

Aw sorry. I almost picked Talos too because I really wanna play it myself and just watched some more gameplay couple days ago, but it was on the longer side of 20 hours so I didn’t.

Tristar

No worries, I only want to get that Sheep to finally play Talos after skipping it twice already ;-D

EvilBlackSheep

I’ve finally had time to play something today so I started and finished (several times) The Stanley Parable, and I have to say it was quite the experience, I found it really interesting :) Now to wait 5 years for one of the 2 achievements I’m missing. :p

JaffaCaffa

Yay so glad you enjoyed it! :D It’s one that’s stuck with me all these years.
Have fun getting the Play The Stanley Parable for the entire duration of a Tuesday achievement. That was a pain, I was too paranoid to tab out and have the game crash so I just didn’t use the computer for a day. haha

EvilBlackSheep

Yeah I was thinking of letting it run this tuesday before letting it shut for 5 years. But that also means no other game getting played for 24h ;___;

EvilBlackSheep

I feel like I failed as I only managed to finish one of your selected games in time, but I’m still gonna keep the list and try to beat more before the end of december, as I really think it’s a great selection. Thanks again for it and sorry I came so short on it, it’s been a busy month :(

JaffaCaffa

No worries I completely understand. :) Hope you enjoy them still whenever you get around to ‘em!

LastM

I was waiting for this this! I’d like to participate. Click here to pick any non EA/MP-only game that I haven’t played yet!

I also have an unusual request, if you don’t mind. Please, don’t shy away from picking “bad” games for me. I’m not kidding. I sed to be a huge hoarder when I started on sg, so I got a bunch of terrible games and I figured that I’m never gonna start any of them on my own, so I might as well use this challenge as a way to encourage me to start playing some of them. >.< Do not be gentle! xD You can always just pick normally, if you want as well. I don’t mind either way.

GiseIIe

I’m choosing for you mwahahaha I’ll be mean or maybe not

GiseIIe
  • See No Evil - HLTB Time: 2 - 7h - great soundtrack tag
  • Glittermitten Grove - HLTB Time: 4 - 9h - ‘Cause I want you to play something that has glitter in its name ☆⌒ヽ(‘、^)
  • The Odyssey: Winds of Athena - HLTB Time: no idea - this seems nice even though the reviews are mixed ?_?
  • Let There Be Life - HLTB Time: 4h - I’m not sorry about choosing this °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖° seems like a dressup game for trees
  • The Dwarf Run - HLTB Time: 18½h - I LOVE turn-based stuff, do you like turn-based stuff???

tell me if you want me to replace anything!

LastM

Thanks a lot for picking!

Game Proof Status Review
See no Evil 8/27* Beaten! Good sound effects, decent puzzles. A tad repetitive. Broken achievements
Glittermitten Grove Read —-> Beaten? Honestly, I have to say that this game is a case of false advertisement. It sells itself as a Terraria clone with fairies, which is fun. I built my own village, with a bunch of houses both in trees and underground., but then I found a door underground and the “real” game started. The devs have hidden an ARG inside the fairy part. It looks like this There is nothing in the store page about this… I feel like I wasted a few hours… Even the glitter is fake. T_T
The Big Elk 13/18 Beaten! The retro sountrack is good. The game itself isn’t that bad, just REALLY frustrating because you can’t save during the long missions. I mostly ran past enemies towards the kettles to end the phase because their hitbox is tiny and they are dumb.
Let There Be Life proof Beaten! It’s a very relaxing game, it worked exceptionally well with my 80s playlist. Really repetitive, though: 34 levels doing the same thing over and over. Ps: It has a lot of glitter ☆⌒ヽ(‘、^)
The Dwarf Run 5/11 Beaten! This game is incredibly bad. It looks terrible; the combat is goddamn awful; the characters try to be funny, but tbh the “jokes” are terrible. The story was so bad, that I pressed skip 99% of the time and I still feel bad about reading that 1%. xD At least, you can skip some of the fights. Half the achievements are for arena battles, but no achievement is worth the time I’d have to spend playing this crap. Thank god some wonderful person created an amazing guide that made this nightmare much quicker and easier. It also has built-in cheats. It’s like they know it’s terrible, so they gotta help somehow. I used re-spec a few times to defeat some enemies because some fights are still hard even on casual

*This game has broken achievements and the steam overlay doesn’t work properly either. I had to take a picture using good old PrintScreen

GiseIIe

how about The Big Elk? 6½ Hours

LastM

This works just fine! Thanks and sorry again! xD

GiseIIe

OH MY GOD I can’t believe glittermitten grove is like that!!! One wants fairies and gets this??? (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

LastM

I was pissed about it and I didn’t even spend any money on it, I just joined a GA because I like management games. I can’t even start to imagine how pissed someone who paid for something they didn’t want, must have been. :/

BTW, I was gonna talk to you about it. Do it count as beaten, if I didn’t play the “real” game, only the “fake” one? T_T

GiseIIe

I have no idea, just do what your heart says.

I researched on this, and apparently that game is called Frog Fractions 2 and was kickstarted?? The creator(s?) said they were going to hide it in another game, without saying which one! This is the weirdest thing ever and we found this by accident, you could write about this in your next post, it’s so weird.

LastM

I’ll count it as beaten, since I did play the part that I was interested in. It’s really weird. Why would they misled consumers like that. I mean, those that kickstarted it knew it, but the rest of us would never guess. o.0

Btw, I finished my challenge. It was a bit hard to finish Dwarf Run, but thankfully, someone created a great guide that made it not only bearable, but also much quicker.

Thanks again for picking! I had fun with some picks and manage to finish 2 games that I honestly wouldn’t have played, If it hadn’t been for your challenge. :)

MouseWithBeer

Due to me going abroad for a month with only my shitty laptop the pool of available games to pick from is really small. Ninglor03 said she is going to pick for me, so the following is for her:

Feel free to pick whatever you find unplayed that fits this criteria:

  • Must run on LInux
  • Runs on the following specs:
    • i5 3210M @ 2.5 GHz (2 cores, 4 threads)
    • 4GB of RAM
    • Intel HD Graphics 4000 or AMD Radeon HD 7650M (which is not much better than the integrated graphic card anyways…)
    • Preferably can be played with a touch-pad (the USB ports randomly die for no apparent reason), but that is not that important

Since that is quite a restrictive set of rules (Linux alone drops my library from 1500 games down to 500) here is some suggestions about what kinds of games that should hopefully run fine:

  • Artifex Mundi HOGs. I played quite a bit of them on my laptop already and they run smooth like butter
  • Any other HOG game with Linux support should be fine
  • Cleverweek games might be useful to take a look at if you need a game with a soundtrack
  • Games from the Doodle God series should run fine
  • The Oh…Sir! (insult simulator thingy) games should run fine
  • If you need to find some SG wins I have at least 2 VNs that are unplayed that should probably work, also VNs should work in general but I don’t have many to choose from.
  • From the main post, but it might come handy if you overlooked it.
  • It the end of the day you are that chooses, you feel free to pick anything else that you find ^^

Thank you for being awesome and picking for me with all this complications! <3

ninglor03

I shall get to it in a moment :)

ninglor03
  • Army of Tentacles: (Not) A Cthulhu Dating Sim - HLTB Time: 2 1/2h - sg win & soundtrack - but I’m sorry to pick it, I think. Normally I wouldn’t, it just let me get rid of the OST :]
  • Reflections - HLTB Time: ??????? - Caught my eyes. So there you go :) (Btw, that’s the EA one ;) )
  • Namariel Legends: Iron Lord Premium Edition - HLTB Time: 3 -5h - Played it, approved off it!
  • Cave Story+ - HLTB Time: 6-9h - Yep, Potatoe approves. That’s the only reason here. I’m a bit at a loss hide
  • One Eyed Kutkh - HLTB Time: short :P - Since you played with Beerman, you can do this! Also you have bizarre games :D Definitely liked the not on Linux reduced choice more ^^
[Always Sometimes Monsters](http://store.steampowered.com/app/274310/) - HLTB Time: 8-13h - I know you've spent time there, but you can do better! I liked this one! It made me realize, I should maybe not ignore that kinda game just because it's... that kinda game :D

2064: Read Only Memories - Since I seem to be picking the wrong games all along sob

Hope they work out for you, if not, as always, hit me and I’ll change it asap!

Keep me posted, have fun and a nice time over here :)

MouseWithBeer

While it does run on my laptop Reflections is unplayable sorry :( The mouse in the menus is so laggy that you can barely select something and even on the lowest graphical settings I have about 10 FPS :( I will give it a try once back home to my own PC because it looks interesting, but can you please switch it out of something else for now?

ninglor03

Sorry to hear that. I shall have another look then. I’ll give you a heads up, the moment it’s done :)

ninglor03

Because MouseWithBeer has a plan for me, I shall totally give her the honor! :) :*

So, as always: no MP games pls, no early Access, no consideration of the extra rule for this month, no uh… wait, what else? Right, I wanted to exclude KNs for this one, since… Well, I loved it, but KNs take so much willpower out off me! (VNs on the other hand are totally there to pick from! <3) Oh right, and no free to play games, cause I just never get round to them.
You might pick wins again, collected a few - got Endless Legend from PA (it’s not yet on the list, because of some problems with the creator, that are being sorted in a couple of days), so I will play that. In that sense, maybe no games, that are over 15h max 20h? Would be appreciated :*
Sorry for the wall off text (revenge, yk? :D)!

Oh, and the most important part: Pick things you liked/want to play/find interesting! I don’t care about steam general opinion :)

Thank you!

MouseWithBeer
  • Alice’s Patchwork - HLTB Time:12½ Hours // we both know this was going to happen … well I might have forgotten for a little bit
  • Pickers - HLTB Time: 5 Hours // I am really intrigued by this one and need to play it sometime soon. Also I choose this one for someone else before and there were no complaints about it and it has an oddly appropriate name
  • Hustle Cat - HLTB Time: 2½ Hours // Cats. Enough said. I am pretty sure it is not a KN, but if I am wrong let me know
  • Pixel Puzzles 2: RADical ROACH - HLTB Time: 18 Hours - it took me less than 10, not sure what HLTB is smoking // Here, finish this so then you can go finish it in Ultimate too :P
  • Nightmares from the Deep 2: The Siren’s Call - HLTB Time: 3½ Hours // The list needed more HOGs and this one was the first one I spotted that I played and liked it so hope you will too :)
ninglor03

Yes, man! That totally works - and no idea about the Cat, but it’s CAT, so even if it was a KN, I wouldn’t mind :D
Shall get right to installing!

ninglor03

Alice - down (16/18)
Nightmares from the deep - completed!
Pixle Puzzle RADical ROACH - Dead Roaches!
Pickers - outsorted

Don’t see me working on the way to much coins right now O.O

MouseWithBeer

I dont blame you! Congrats on finishing it ^^

ninglor03

I’ve completed the Siren’s Call once. Shall get back to it tomorrow and kill these last few cheevos. Right now bed is calling yawn

ninglor03

Killed them Roaches! pew pew

MouseWithBeer

You are on a roll! :D

I still haven’t finished that damn puzzle I was talking about :( I did however finish the puzzle that was in todays advent calendar \o/

ninglor03

I am! Had to play Endless Legend first, so now I’m totally on it! :D

Yeah, I managed at least the first one. Guess I’ll go check what’s in there now :)

ninglor03

Next one dead. Now only the cat is left. Dunno if I’ll get to that tonight though o.o

MouseWithBeer

Congrats! ^^ Just take your time. Finishing 4/5 games is already a great achievement! Definitely better than mine 2/5 :/ I was gonna finish them today, but I got to many worries in my head right now to be able to enjoy playing games. I will be finishing them sometimes soon anyways hopefully :)

Btw I did it yesterday night \o/ time to party :D :

  • Pixel Puzzles Ultimate

    472 hours playtime

    551 of 964 achievements

ninglor03

Yay! confetti

Yeah, right now I have the choice between reading or watching Doctor Who and doing some Ultimate Puzzling. That’s a though one o.o

MouseWithBeer

What book? I vote for the puzzle tho :P

ninglor03

Na, reading Hustle Cat :D
I puzzled and Doctor Who-ed though ;) :D

MouseWithBeer

Ohhh, brain fart. I hope you enjoyed your time! :)

ninglor03

Hihi, sure did :)

gazimply

I’d like to be challenged, please. Preferably no Life is Strange, but anything else goes as long as it’s not MP only. :)

LastM

Here are some games that I’ve played and enjoyed:

  • Her Story - HLTB Time: 2½ Hours - Short and interesting FMV game.Part of your ABC challenge. Sg win.
  • Bastion - HLTB Time: 6½ Hours - Best soundtrack ever!
  • Guacamelee! Gold Edition - HLTB Time: 6½ Hours - Amazing Metroidvania. SG win.
  • Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller - HLTB Time: 17½ Hours - The best detective game on steam. Also part of your ABC challenge.
  • Evoland 2 - HLTB Time: 17½ Hours - Zelda-like. I was pleasantly surprised by this game. It’s actually VERY good.
ninglor03

Cognition!!!!!! <3

gazimply

Thanks for the picks! I’m especially looking forward to Cognition now; that’s some pretty high praise ^^

gazimply
  • Her Story - Achievements Intriguing and pretty well-acted.
  • Bastion - Achievements The soundtrack was indeed good, but the combat never quite felt right.
  • Guacamelee! Gold Edition - Achievements Very fun. I liked how fluid the combat was.
  • Evoland 2 - Achievements I was impressed by its scope.

I didn’t have time to get to Cognition, but your other picks were a lot of fun. Thanks again.

Glad you liked! :)

nooooooo
I thought I had another day left of my previous challenge me and I still have a bit to go with ori

anyways I kinda have a plan for this next month.
I want to play shadow tactics this month. and thats a huuuggeee game especially with school.
and I probably should skip a month but honestly I’ve been really liking doing this/that would kill my streak.

So here I go challenge me!

I’ve asked this the past two months.
but seeing as how I have school and also a seperate plan if at all possible I would like really short games.
no matter whats picked I’ll be able to finish one of them but I feel more accomplished if I can finish all 5 that I’ve been challenged and stuff.

EvilBlackSheep
  • Steamworld Heist - HLTB Time: 12-15h (I know you said really short but I can’t pass this one. Like I said to stef, not only it has an amazing soundtrack, but also one of my favorite game of the year - Number one recommandation)
  • The Turing Test - HLTB Time: 4-5h
  • Stories Untold - HLTB Time: 2h
  • Orwell - HLTB Time: 4-5h
  • Good Robot - HLTB Time: ? (Astats says 1,8h of average playtime) - I have no idea about this one but it’s your only unplayed SG win so I assume I have to pick it.

I hope you like some of them, happy gaming :)

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Thanks for picking \o/
I hope the turing test runs for me cause I read an update not to long ago about it not running for them

Happy backlog killing \o/

EvilBlackSheep

It ran for me not that long ago, but you never know. If it doesn’t run and you want a replacement feel free to ping me here ;)

Blue Ϟ Lightning

I…I failed ;_;

I didnt get much of orwell done and I barely started steamworld ;_;

Finished the Turing Test-took alot longer than 4-5 hours but I really liked it.
Stories untold was fun as well.
I played around 4 runs of Good Robot…its kinda a endless game and I played it till I got bored so I think it counts.

anyways exam tmr and I haven’t touched anything yet aaaaa

EvilBlackSheep

Hey, you did way better than I did with the batch I was assigned. I only managed to finish The stanley parable, I have too many good stuff started and too many things going on irl this part month. I hope you’ll give a chance to Steamworld heist later because it’s really a great game but I think you did good on the challenge ;)

Best of luck for your exams, and happy holidays :)

adil

I’ll try a challenge me again (with minimal guarantee to be fully completed but I really need to work on that backlog haha). So if anyone feel like picking some games out for me that’d be nice.
Please avoid multiplayer games (I don’t think I got many anyway) and no early access as well (don’t think I got any left). Thank you very much.

  • Ori and the blind forest. My last challenge me had this…and its also the only thing I couldn’t finish. HLTB time is ~8 hours but I’ve done more than that and I’m still only halfway through… this game is actually somewhat hard the escape sequences in particular. (This game is also the “soundtrack” pick and an ABC plan entry.). so this is on your abc list but you’ve also apparently played the first game so idfk if it doesn’t work I can switch it.
  • LiEat HLTB time 4 hours…this is a game I’m interested in myself so idk.
  • SteamWorld Heist hltb time 12hrs
  • The Way We ALL GO hltb one run is 2 hours but theres like 30 endings so depending on how you play it can take 25+ hours. personally actually enjoyed this and you have a bunch of visual novels (also it has choices so idk +1 for that)
  • Hyper Light Drifter HLTB time is 8 hours but I mean I played a collecting game and spend 30 hrs in it
adil

Nice, everything seems great. And yeah Ori I didn’t play it “legally” to not name the method of acquisition used before haha. So with the definitive edition I thought that was a great way to get enough motivation to start it again . And yeah, I got a bunch of VN, but I’m just too lazy to start any, pretty much the same problem I got with all my other games as well! (like how it took me six months to finally beat Bayonetta again for example, despite loving the game very much!)
Anyway, thanks! And I’ll start with Hyper Light Drifter, most likely, because I feel like playing some more action games :D

adil

Random report of my progress. I finally “beat” a game xD

So first I tried Hyper Light Drifter, and I’m not super fond of it. I played something like two hours, managed to beat some stuff but not even a single achievement D: plus the exploration is quite painful. So I’ll probably get back to it as the last one.

Then I tried SteamWorld, and that was pretty great! I beat the first world, not sure how many more there are but it’s a cool game, I’m enjoying this one.

And today I finished The Way We ALL GO. I’ll be honest, I had little to no expectation because I thought it’d be filled with drama and I’m not super fond of drama. But it was a pleasant surprise. I thought there were no achievement also since I didn’t get any until I finished the game… I got the Best Friend ending. And considering what other achievements look like, I’m quite happy I didn’t go into a darker route! It took me a while too, maybe something like 3 or 4 hours… I guess I was reading very slowly x_x but now I’ll need to get a few more endings, I can’t stay with a 5% achievements D: that’s something more that goes into my backlog now haha.

Anyway, I’ll get back to SteamWorld, and probably will try LiEat next week, because it’s the shortest one, so I can at least manage to get a second game beaten xD

adil

Final report since it’s supposedly the last day for this challenge.

LiEat: completed. Was okayish. I liked the art, but it was lacking a bit in everything. It has 3 episodes, and each ep is best played in one sitting so that you don’t forget what to look for or what to do. It’s still simply some rpg maker game, so obviously it’s nothing fancy. I used a guide to avoid running aimlessly and I liked it more that way. Plus it helped me complete the game, and see all endings.

SteamWorld Heist: beaten. Probably my favourite (that I played). Unfortunately I think I kinda overplayed it to finish it in time. So I’m kind of bored of it as well. And it’s a very slow game too. But still a cool game.

The Way We ALL GO: beaten. I already talked about it and I’m still curious about the other endings. I’ll try to get back to it at some point, though I got other plans first.

Hyper Light Drifter: Haven’t finished it, and I’m still unsure I’ll complete it. I haven’t seen a good walkthrough of the game and I’m not super fond of its “exploration”. The art is nice though with cool tracks. And my brother keeps telling me I should finish it but I’m not motivated yet.

Ori and the blind forest: untouched D: I’ll finish it though, not sure if it will be before year ends but I want to get back to it again.

So that’s 3 out of 5. I’ve been quite busy these pasts two weeks so I’m happy I managed to finish more than 1! Even though I had to rush to meet the deadline :D

Blue Ϟ Lightning

aaa okay you’ve done better than me on you’res it seems
I’ve barely started steamworld and haven’t touched another of them.

CalculonJones

Challenge me please! No MP/EA, but anything else is fair game.

ninglor03

Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

ninglor03

As usual I (try to) focus on games I liked/want to play/find interesting :)
Not sure about the games you have marked as unfinished, so I might ignore them ;)

  • There Came an Echo - HLTB Time: 3-5h - sg win + nice soundtrack(?)
  • Laserlife - HLTB Time: 1-2h - sg win and MUSIC!
  • Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller - HLTB Time: 17 1/2h - because it’s awesome and deserves to be played! :)
  • Life is Strange - HLTB Time: 14 - 18h - because it’s on a different level awesome and deserves just as much to be played!! :D
  • Mass Effect 2 - HLTB Time: 24h to never ending… <3 - so, this makes me happy and sad. Happy because you can experience it without knowing it, sad…. because. you. haven’t. played. it! It’s better then the first, believe me. And it is on my “must have played” list! Do it, do it, do it! <3

Sry cough
Luckily I stopped with reaching M. Also luckily I am restricted to 5 games ;)
I hope they work out for you! Especially the non wins, the wins I don’t care that much about lalala If something is bugging you, poke me and I’ll try to make it right asap. Although it might just be, that I would be struggling to replace certain games…. ;)
Keep me posted! Have a lot of fun! Enjoy! :)

CalculonJones

All great choices. Thanks!

ninglor03

Awesome! Have lots of fun with it :)

Cognition! o/

:) <3!!

I’d like to participate. I work a lot but I’d like to try to beat a game or two. I’m okay with all types of games. Thanks!

JaffaCaffa
  • A Bird Story - HLTB Time: 1 Hour - I see you loved To The Moon and it fits the monthly theme.
  • Outlast - HLTB Time: 6 Hours - Scariest game I’ve played, I was getting actual panic attacks but also still loving it? I didn’t technically finish it as I lost my save near the end due to switching computers, but watched a couple playthroughs as well. Really really good, favourite horror I’ve played/watched.
  • Shadow Complex Remastered - HLTB Time: 7 Hours - Looks like a lot of fun.
  • The Walking Dead: Season 2 - HLTB Time: 9 Hours - Good sequel worth playing!
  • Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition - HLTB Time: 10 Hours - Beautiful platformer I need to get back to myself.

Tried picking shorter games, lemme know if you want something swapped out. Also I didn’t pick it as it’s not a game, but I watched Indie Game: The Movie when it came out and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. Definitely worth giving a watch some time imo. :)

:) <3!!

Thank you so much, I love the picks! I’ll watch Indie Game: The Movie too :)

:) <3!!

I beat A Bird Story. It was really good. Now I can’t wait for Finding Paradise.

JaffaCaffa

Nice, you won’t have to wait long before release! Hope you’ll enjoy it as much as the other two. :)

I would like to participate if it is not too late.

Daerphen

Of course you can still participate. 11 days left to complete at least one of the following:

  • Bloop - Nice and short puzzle game
  • Pychonauts - An rather old game, but I liked it. 3D Platformer
  • Seasons after Fall - On my own to-play-list-someday. Looks really cute
  • STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic™ - Probably a bit too long for just 11 days. But the start of the game was very nice, but haven’t completed it myself. Need to do this one day.
  • Brütal Legends - This game is picked because Soundtrack :D I hope you like Metal ;) Liked the soundtrack a lot, but quit the game, because I am not a huge fan of RTS. Still want to return to the game some day.
