No extra theme related task this time as it already hard to pick a local game from our own libraries. But maybe you can recommend some really nice game to your fellow assassins.
For Pickers. Just copy paste and complete the data :)
* [GAME#1](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#1-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#1-HLTBTIME

- Please make sure your games are sorted by completion before applying.
- If you so desire and you have at least 5 unplayed SG wins, the 5 games can be picked out of your SG wins (instead of only 2/5). Just note it in your application comment.
- Note in your post if you're ok playing multiplayer only games.
- Same for Early Access (I know some people want to wait for release).
- When you finish one (or more) of the games picked for you, please post an update by replying to your picker's comment.
- If the game has achievements, you can link to either the Steam or Astats page corresponding to your progress.
- If the game doesn't have achievements, please post a screenshot showing your completion.
- Finally, if you have completed all the games that were assigned to you but want another go at it, feel free to post another application.
- You can pick for/challenge up to 2 fellow assassins, please refrain to pick more so everybody who wants get a chance at it.
- You can pick for anybody who has applied and hasn't been given a list yet, unless they specified otherwise (see next point). It is recommended to signal with a "reserved" comment that you're currently picking for that person. This way it'll avoid the situation where you spend time picking games just to come back to somebody's comment 2 minutes prior.
- Please use the following criteria when picking a list for somebody.
- Pick exactly 5 games
- Length-wise: at least 2 short games (under 10h to beat) and 2 medium (under 15-20h). You can use HLTB to check the time, or more conveniently the Enhanced Steam browser extension (it shows the HLTB time directly on the game's steam page). That rule can be overridden by the bottom (i.e. pick 5 short games) but not the other way around, as not everybody has the same time to dedicate to gaming.
- Pick two SG wins unless the person specified SG wins only, in which case pick only in the applicant's SG wins list.
- Quality-wise: at least 3 of the 5 games should have a positive (or above) rating. You can use this site to quickly sort games in a user's library by ratings (thanks to JaffaCaffa for the suggestion).
- Please, respect the applicant's choice regarding multiplayer-only and Early access games, as well as other requests (exclusion of certain genre etc.).
- Please use the code below to post your comment, it's already formatted, you just have to copy/paste & complete the data.
Do I have to participate in this event?
No, this is an event to help you reduce your backlog. If you already have a plan and don't want anyone to pick games for you, you're free to ignore it.
What happens if I don’t participate in the event?
Absolutely nothing.
What happens if I play all the games picked for me this month?
Still nothing. (You might get a shiny profile badge at some later date. And you can come back for another batch.)
What if I don’t have time to play 5 games?
Don’t worry, one is enough, we’re just asking the pickers to select 5 to give the player a little choice.
One of the game picked for me won’t run on my computer for X or Y reason, what do I do?
If this happens, please notify the picker by replying his comment and ask them to pick a replacement. If the original picker don’t give you an answer within 24h, don’t panic, just leave a comment and we’ll pick one for you. Meanwhile, you could try one of the other picked games if you haven't played them all yet.
I played all 5 games that were picked for me and I want more!
If you have completed all 5 games and reported your completion to the original comment, you can make a new request for another list.
When picking for other people, can I only pick “never played” games?
Not necessarily, you can also pick games that seem to have been abandoned but haven’t been categorized as “won’t play”. No beaten or completed games, or games being currently played obviously.
Why are there so many rules for picking the games? I can’t be bothered!
We’re trying to make this enjoyable for everyone so if you decide to pick games for others, please read and follow the rules. I’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for the pickers too, but if it’s bothering you too much, remember you don’t need to pick games for others to join the challenge.
I’m new here, can I join the challenge?
Yes of course (and welcome to BLAEO). Please just be sure to have your games sorted by progress before signing up for the challenge, to make it easier for your picker.
Trying to keep my average of 3 games per monthly challenge up. Pick only cool stuff!
Let’s see if I can find something cool for you :D
- FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster - HLTB Time: 77h
- Alien: Isolation - HLTB Time: 18 1/2h
- Game of Thrones - A Telltale Games Series - HLTB Time: 12 1/2h
- Hacknet - HLTB Time: 7h
- Human: Fall Flat - HLTB Time: 5 1/2h
Oh, boy, looks like I’ll have my hands full with FFX. Thanks for the picks!
Update:
Finished Game of Thrones - A telltale game series.
Still have a Challenge Me backlog from last month (only completed one game), but plan on creating a Challenge Me list that I can reference when I don’t know what to play.
Will try to get as many as possible done this month, though, don’t want to just keep adding stuff to the list and leaving things unplayed. :)
Someone please pick some games for me! And please don’t include early access or multiplayer only games.
As you don’t have a SG wins list, I picked 2 of your “Gifts & Other Wins” list instead :)
- Finding Paradise - HLTB Time: 5 Hours - Game from the To The Moon developer, another touching story :,)
- Human: Fall Flat - HLTB Time: 5½ Hours - A funny puzzle game. Can be played in multiplayer but it’s not necessary :)
- Trine 2: Complete Story - HLTB Time: 9 Hours - A really nice platformer series. First wanted to add Trine 3 but as you haven’t played the second, I added this instead. ;)
- Fable - The Lost Chapters - HLTB Time: 15 Hours - A RPG masterpiece, haven’t played it myself yet but heard a lot of praise for it :)
The Binding of Isaac - HLTB Time: 11 Hours - A rouge-like RPG with random generated dungeons, sounds like a lot of fun :) - Anna’s Quest - HLTB Time: 9½ Hours - For me the best Daedalic game I played yet
I hope I found something you’ll like :) Have a lot of fun!
Thanks for picking for me!
I was going to start with Isaac, but it turns out you need to install third party software to make a controller work with the game. And on top of that the software seems to have issues with Windows 10… Then I was going to use my keyboard to play the game, but you need arrow keys and I have a 60% keyboard. :D So can you please replace Isaac with some other game? It’s literally unplayable for me.
Just finished Anna’s Quest. Thanks for picking it, it was nice playing a Daedalic point and click game again!
Was going to start playing Human: Fall Flat with my friends, but one of them started having internet issues last week so the game will have to wait a bit. :(
Finished Human: Fall Flat as well now. One of the best co-op games I’ve ever played, it was too much fun!
Glad to hear you liked it :) Congrats for beating it =)
Did 2 and the third is ongoing last month. :D
Please choose shorter titles.
No multiplayer games.
Fine with early access.
No horror which overly uses jumpscares. I’m bad at horror so please pick light ones.
For easier picking, look at To Play and ABC plan lists. :3
As always, thanks for digging through my huge backlog. x3
- The Signal From Tölva - HLTB Time: 6½ Hours [A true hidden gem! Kind of stealth shooting exploration open world in a world with only robots. It’s not perfect but it oozes with charm, a flawed game you can’t help but love.] - Won on SG
- Grim Fandango Remastered - HLTB Time: 10½ Hours - 11½ Hours [Classic point and click goodness. Some frustrating puzzles but other than an unique setting packed with great characters and an intriguing story. (no shame in looking up walkthroughs!)] -Won on SG
- Portal 2 - HLTB Time: 8½ Hours [Probably needs no introduction. Amazing puzzles, narrative, style, mechanics… the whole package!]
- Shadowrun Returns - HLTB Time: Main Story 12 Hours [The first entry in the modern ShadowRun videogames. As it is the first, there will be improvements missing from it that were introduced in later installments, but it’s still a damn good experience and story, with amazing cyberpunk visuals.]
- MIND: Path to Thalamus Enhanced Edition - HLTB Time: 4 Hours [Couldn’t find anything in your “short” list I liked, so here’s something that looks cool!]
If you want me to change a game let me know.
A 6.5 hour open world game? Sounds interesting. Could you change The Walking Dead to other shorter games? I’m not really in the mood of playing a dialogue heavy Telltale game, especially one that’s this sad. :< Plus I’m actually planning on playing Pyre soon which will fill that dialogue heavy itch when I feel like it.
Sure thing, changed it.
Thanks! I’ve already started The Signal From Tolva and it’s looking pretty interesting. :3
I suppose I should do a status update~Only finished The Signal From Tolva, tho the completion time lied to me and it took 13+ hours to finish the game. xD I quite enjoy the atmosphere in it and it is pretty unique, however as you say the game is indeed flawed and has quite a bit of problems especially towards the end of the game. Still pretty fun tho. :3
Any progress is good progress in my book! I’m also glad someone else enjoyed the experience, it deserves a lot more recognition imo. At the very least a cult following!
Anyway, if you are at all interested in any of the other games, I’d strongly recommend you “pass” them over to the new month. Kudos on a completed challenge month!
Been a while since I last participated in this, so go nuts!
- No previous picks
- No multiplayer-only/endless games
- Much rather get picks from my unfinished/never played pile than SG wins.
- Silence - HLTB Time: 5h
- DISTRAINT: Deluxe Edition - HLTB Time: 2h
- Fallout - HLTB Time: 16 1/2h
- Go! Go! Nippon! ~My First Trip to Japan~ - HLTB Time: 3h
- A Hat in Time - HLTB Time: 9h
I’m actually playing through the original BioShock at the moment, haha! Could you replace that one with something else?
Sure thing, just give me a moment ;)
Hope Silence is better.
Hi! I have a Challenge Me backlog from last month (1 game and a a half are remaining, not bad for a 1st time, plus I´ve finished 1 not included in it), but I am planning on add some Challenge Me games to June´s plan (on May I am still finishing the pending games), because probably they will be games that they are not on my mind, but I got nice surprises last month, so I want to repeat the experience.
Please choose some games from me, preferably short ones, without multiplayer, and a mix of different genres if it´s possible: I like graphical adventures but I like action too for example xd.
Actually playing, to avoid them from the list: Walking Dead Season 1, Life is Strange Before the Storm, Fighting Ex Layer, Dead Age and Hard West.
Greetings!
- Viscera Cleanup Detail: Shadow Warrior - HLTB Time: 1.5 hours
- Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack - HLTB Time: 4 hours
- Jet Set Radio - HLTB Time: 7 hours
- Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - Ultimate Sith Edition - HLTB Time: 8 hours
- The Wolf Among Us - HLTB Time: 9 hours
If you want to replace some games, just let me know!
It´s ok. It´s a nice variety! I will try my best.
Finished the cleaning simulator. It was a strange game xdxdxd
Haha yeah, it’s a strange one for sure!
If you want anything swapped feel free to tell me. :3
- Thief™ Gold - HLTB Time: 20 hours
- Quantum Break - HLTB Time: 10 hours - SG win
- Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition - HLTB Time: 8.5 hours - Oh wow you have 2 of my favorite games in your unplayed. This game is just fantastic! Tho it does have a higher difficulty curve tho.
- Transistor - HLTB Time: 6 hours - One of if not my favorite game on steam. Amazing art, wonderful music, enjoyable gameplay and a heart wrenching story.
- Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes - HLTB Time: 1.5 hours - SG win. Is it really 1.5 hours? 0-0
The only one I want swapped is Thief, only because I want to start with the original before I hit the reboot. So, I propose switching it to Thief: Gold
Otherwise the list looks good full of games I have been wanting/itching to play. ^_^
Challenge Accepted!
Changed! Enjoy. :D
Update: Challenge Beaten!
With the final game gone and done, here are my stats.
Title
Time

Review
Transistor
Time 12h
Certainly can see why this is a favorite of yours and only meets the expectations that I have for SuperGiant games. Great game, amazing unique art style, and a solid soundtrack that I was listening to before I even go into the game.
Quantum Break
Time 9.6h
There was a strong narrative when I started this game, similar to that of Alan Wake. Color me surprised as it was revealed to me that it was by the same developers and even hints it is in the same universe. As there were a lot of similarities to Alan Wake in game play and story, I generally enjoyed alongside the time manipulation powers. This enjoyment only grew bigger once I realized there was a plethora of FMV content in it. Unfortunately they game is brought down heavily by the buggy textures and animations. That and the fact that despite telling me to explore, the game was constantly trying to get me to the next objective. Overall, an enjoyable experience and have to check out other games they released.
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition
Time 11.9h
Not likely to complete any time soon
Metroidvanias will always be a favorite genre, particularly because then tend to be pretty great. This one is no exception, though I don’t hold it as highly as others have made it up to be. Solid game play and beautiful environment with fitting music makes this a success. However, I wasn’t the greatest fan of dealing with an escape level every time a temple was completed or the abrupt ending after the third temple. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a bad ending. It just didn’t really present itself as the final level, otherwise I would have done more exploring. My preferences may go towards darker metroidvanias like Hollow Knight, Castelvania, and Metroid, but I will certainly look into getting into the sequel game once time allots.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
Time 1.9h
Eventually complete
Convoluted and crazy story lines are really my thing as a fan of both Kingdom Hearts and Metal Gear Solid. It brings to question why I’ve been putting off MGSV and Ground Zeroes for so long. Still, your challenge put it right in front of me and my craving for it only grew. It felt a little weird being back, especially since there was the slow-mo save for yourself. Even not having David Hayter being Snake just felt downright weird. Even so, I quite enjoyed another Tactical Espionage experience and will move onto Phantom Pain once I get through the side missions among other goals.
Thief Gold
Time 14h
No plans to complete at this time.
Every series has it’s first. This one was completely and %100 okay. Like a straight 5 or 6/10. It’s greatest downfall is time. It’s age and just stealth games were pretty rough at the time it came out. For it’s time it was great as it incorporated interesting mechanics. Still, I found the stealth quite inconsistent and at time frustratingly difficult. The story was alright, but the cutscenes never appeared for me so I was missing very important and interesting pieces of story other than what the objectives would give me. Probably wouldn’t recommending going back to this, but it shall make me appreciate your original challenge, the rebooted Thief, all the more.
Oh wow you finished all of them. :o Impressive accomplishment! What do you think of the ending of Transistor? I know quite a few people dislike it from the let’s plays I’ve watched on Youtube. As for Ori 2, personally I would not recommend it. It’s a very complicated feeling for me since the second game is actually very different from the first. They went towards the direction of combat and has quite a bit of similarity with Hollow Knight, even though the combat is not that fleshed out. I’m sure if you don’t hold as high of an expectation going in as me you won’t be so disappointed, but just keep those things in mind. :3
I think it was a sad ending which is often construed as bad considering you fight your way through everything just for it to end up the way it does. It also doesn’t really expand on what’s going to happen to the world. You kind of reconstruct one part and that’s about it. However, I did like the ending because it wasn’t really about saving the world as much as it was about you and him and that’s how it ends which is rather fitting. So it was a sad, but sweet ending and can’t really think of a better way for it to end.
I’ll certainly keep that in mind, thanks!
Haven’t done it in a while so why not let someone pick some games for the play a win event since I’m onto my backlog now
Please pick from this list https://www.backlog-assassins.net/lists/9b4zy9l/
Didn’t wanna get you anything too long, yet also get you some games I know that are good. Let me know if you want anything swapped.
Bastion | HLTB time: 6 hours |
Murdered: Soul Suspect | HLTB Time: 7 hours |
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy | HLTB time: 14.5 hours |
Spyro Reignited Trilogy | HLTB Time: 15 hours |
Edit: phone formatting
Oh bunch of remakes XD
Thanks for the picks. I’ve been meaning to play spyro for ages but I just never found the time to do so
Also welcome to the challenge
If you mind them, I can glady swap something. I’ve just seen them and couldn’t understand how you didn’t start playing them yet
Just haven’t had the time. Between the challenges and doing my wins I haven’t touched them. I did bastion for a challenge before but it broke a few lvls in so I couldnt continue but its a win so I want to try and see if I can get past the problem. The others just never found the time for even for spyro which I love. However I am finished with my wins now so I have the chance to play more games then just the ones I planned to do for sequels and stuff
never updated since given my games
can confirm bastion just hates me. Crashed on the same place, probably shouldnt have started a new game and seen if I still had a problem by continuing.
Murdered soul suspect, im up to my last 3 big sections and i completed 2 games of the spyro trilogy. Havent started crash but I’ve added it to the play a win event so I will be playing that soon after I finish spyro most likely
First time posting here.
I would like to get 3 games with a good story that I could complete (100%) in this month (by playing let’s say 3hrs a day)
It’s a lot better if the games don’t have any MP requirements.
I don’t really care if I have to start a new game (that for whatever reason I didn’t play at all until now, even though it’s a masterpiece… Come on, flame me), or something that I have started but have never managed to complete.
If you have an extra game, or two, up to 10hrs that’s a MUST PLAY HOW COULD YOU LIVE UNTIL NOW WITHOUT COMPLETING THESE, I’m taking up to 2 bonuses as well ;)
The newer the games are, and the better the graphics and scenes the better, but idm playing a really old game either, as long as it’s good
Story games: Since you’re asking for good story I mostly have to pick from my experience, tho I don’t really play longs games. :P
- Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition - HLTB Time: 11.5 hours to complete - This is part of the OMG HOW HAVE YOU NOT PLAYED IT game, though it also fits your good story requirement. I adore this game so much and it shouldn’t take too long to 100%.
- Undertale - HLTB Time: 20.5 hours to complete - This game is a bit over-rated, but still I liked the writing and the world building of it. To 100% you might need to practice a lot for a certain route but hopefully it still fits.
- My Brother Rabbit - HLTB Time: 4 hours to complete - I hesitate on picking this one since it doesn’t really have a clear story, but I still enjoyed the game very much. Here’s an alternative if you’re uncertain about this one:
-
Spec Ops: The Line - HLTB Time: 15.5 hours to complete - This game has a really interesting story. I love the theories and how it’s carried out. Gameplay is a bit mediocre and getting the FUBUR difficulty might need some work tho so keep in mind.
- Snake Pass - HLTB Time: 5 hours - SG win
- The Witness - HLTB Time: 17 hours
Feel free to ask for any swaps. :3
Tbh, the only reason I haven’t played Ori yet is because I was too afraid for it to somehow disappoint me after I’ve heard so much stuff about it. The same goes for Undertale.
The list looks pretty nice though, I hope I’ll be able to stick 100hrs into these games this month, and also work on my other smaller games at the same time.
Thanks for the challenge, can’t wait to see myself progress through it :P
Ori requires you to be able to endure a bit of trail and error and also quite some insta-deaths and setbacks. And Undertale is mediocre. Like, it’s not bad, it’s just, kinda meh. Don’t get your expectations up high and you’ll probably have a good time. :P
I just started with my Brother Rabbit, as it’s one of the shorter ones, and it seems this games is one of the “OMG I SHOULD HAVE PLAYED THIS A LONG TIME AGO” games.
The story is kinda weird, you were right, but I seem to understand it. The game design and sound is amazing though. I don’t remember exactly when and how I got it (most likely from Fanatical), but I should have started playing through it a lot sooner it seems. Thanks for the recommendation. :)
Can’t wait to try the other ones
Update:
Completed list
My Brother Rabbit
Snake Pass
Beaten
Ori and the Blind Forest
Spec Ops
Undertale
Left to do
The Witness
I will try to beat everything first, and complete whatever I haven’t done yet after I’m done with everything. Story>100%
I don’t think I’ll complete Undertale anytime soon.
The game itself wasn’t that bad, but the only thing that was even close to being good in the story was the ending (I did a pacifist run, maybe the other ones are better). But I still think that the “Best game ever” tag is just a bit overhyped. The soundtrack is really great though :P
Last update:
Playing these games was a pretty fun experience. I didn’t manage to 100% all of them, but in the end, I was trying to have fun instead of completing every game. I was just thinking that that will make me want to play them more, but I guess it’s better not to push it too far.
My current stats in the non-finished games are
Name | Achievements |
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition | 37/57 |
Spec Ops: The Line | 32/50 |
Undertale and The Witness have no achievements, but I have 7 hours in Undertale and just 93 Minutes in the witness.
I knew what the game is all about, and usually, I really love puzzle games, but this got frustrating too fast for me to put more time into it right now. I just did 1 or 2 puzzles whenever I opened it, and just left right afterward (I have to add that my save has about 2 extra hours that I have played on Epic Games and that don’t count on steam). I might finish it at some point, but it will not be soon for sure.
All in all, this was a pretty cool experience, and I think that I will do it again in the next few months as well… Now that I have better organized my collection I can make it a bit easier for the pickers as well. I don’t regret not finishing the started games, and I for sure don’t regret playing them :)
Nice! Glad you had a great time playing them. :3 I have heard that The Witness is best for bite size plays so I think you got the right way going into it! Don’t push yourself to 100% games too hard. I too struggle with that and am learning more and more to let go of games that I no longer enjoy instead of torturing myself. :P
I’m not, and I know that I will still plat both of those (or all 3 actually) here and there until they’re done. They were great games, and just doing one chapter again in spec ops, or getting 5 more collectibles in Ori is going to be pretty chill. That until I get the time and nerve to actually “speedrun” Ori, and then complete it again without dying
Speedrun is very fun for me since I basically divide the game into platforming sections and if I feel like I’m not being as efficient as I can I reload the save and try again. :D So the constant improving is really fun~One death is kinda similar tho as I backed up my save file. :P You could try to do it legit although for me I’d be too annoyed to start everything over again so I just didn’t do that.
I would be interested in getting challenged again! My only requirement is that the games shouldn’t be too jank.
Reserved Finished :3
Never Alone | 3h |
Analogue: A Hate Story | 3h |
Portal | 4h |
The Talos Principle | 15h |
Syrian Warfare | 20h? |
Never can not pick Talos when available ;-)
If I’m still in time, I would be curious be challenged, and see the chosen games.
I don’t know how many multiplayer only games I have (they shouldn’t be many), but I would avoid them, please.
Thank you! :D
Never too late, reserved :3
Finished ^^
DISTRAINT: Deluxe Edition | 2h |
Portal | 4h |
Life is Strange: Before the Storm | 10h |
The Talos Principle | 15h |
AI War: Fleet Command | 16h |
I have great expectations about at least a couple of them, I hope my PC will be able to run each one smoothly. Thank you for the choice! :D
Here I am, I forgot to pop up frequently for updates.
I played Distraint first, quite a creepy experience, but interesting and well developed, I would say.
Then I faced The Talos Principle + Gehenna DLC, and that was impressive. I was expecting a great game, but had much more philosophy than I expected. Cool.
After that I played Portal, and I could see how much this game inspired the genre - just like some of the puzzles in The Talos Principle! Short but fun, now I’m fighting with the advanced rooms.
Finally, I went back to Arcadia Bay, with Life is Strange. This was hard. Emotions from the original game were just waiting, hidden, to jump out and mess up everything. Most of the time I was just so happy, and so sad at the same time. Plus, the bonus chapter in the Deluxe edition is another stab in the chest.
Since the “Challenge me” time span is nearly over, I won’t be playing AI War, this time, as I also want to try other games this month. But, all in all, I would say this was a great selection of games to play, you rock! Thank you again! :D
I had a lot of fun last time so let’s see what I’ll get this time :)
Just two wishes:
Thanks in advance =)
Hopefully you’ll like at least some of these!
Oh yes those are really nice picks, I think at least 2 of them were on my wishlist before I got them :) I played the first Tomb Raider back when I was a kid, that’s why I got me all of them but didn’t played any of them yet, so now I can do that ;)
It’s just including one SG win but I can live with that :D
Luckily I have 2 weeks vacation at the beginning of June so that should be enough for Stardew Valley :D
Thanks a lot for picking games for me =)
So cute 😍
:3
Bastion: Oh yes it was a really nice game :)
Oxenfree: Yes definitely an interesting game. I just wish you would be able to slow down the speed of those bubbles. Seems like I’m a slow reader :D
Also started Stardew Valley, it’s really a lovely and relaxing game =)
Tomb Raider: That was a really good game. It was interesting to see another side of Lara and how she became the Lara we all know :)
I really love Stardew Valley and understand why people put so much time in it. I still have a long way to go there. I think for the challenge I’ll try to get the marriage part done but I’ll definitely try to get the museum and community center part done too in the future. This will take some more time I guess and I don’t want to rush it now ;)
Congrats on completing the challenge in its entirety! I’m really glad you enjoyed the picks. :) I agree that there’s no point rushing Stardew Valley, just take your time with it and enjoy it.
