Yet another month passed. You still have a few days left to finish your challenges of last round. And of course you can now start taking challenges for the next round.
Rule for this round: At least one game has to be from a bundle (for example appear on SG bundle list). It is not necessary, that the applicant has received this actually from a bundle.
- You are allowed to ask a specific person to pick for you, but that person can only be asked to pick for someone specific once. For example: Mandril askes me to pick for him. I do that, but later Nelly also wants me to pick for her. I cannot pick for Nelly anymore, someone else needs to do that.
- You are only allowed to pick for up to 2 members in total. So if you already picked for 2 and you are asked to pick for someone specific you have to pass and another member should pick the games. Exception: Nobody picked games for 24 hours.
The main goal of this is of course to motivate you to reduce your backlog and help you pick some games to do just that. And you can help others do the same!
If you've used the Steam group forums at all, you may have also seen a suggestion about profile badges, including participation badges for themes. We thought for this additional and hopefully regular) event, we will give out two permanent badges that basically level up the more you participate, one for finishing challenges (up to 2 per month) and one for issuing challenges/picking for others. Since badges are still quite a ways off, we'll keep an internal spreadsheet for now, so if we ever implement that, your "progress" won't be lost ;)
This round will last until July 18th.
Post your application for this month’s challenge as a reply here. Please before doing so, read the corresponding section below. Also, if you decide to pick games for others, read the corresponding section before you do so. If you encounter any problem with the games that were picked for you (either technical or if you think they don’t follow the guidelines) and can’t solve it with your picker, please leave a message as a reply of the first comment.
Applicants’ guidelines
- Please make sure your games are sorted by completion before applying.
- If you so desire and you have at least 5 unplayed SG wins, the 5 games can be picked out of your SG wins (instead of only 2/5). Just note it in your application comment.
- Note in your post if you're ok playing multiplayer only games.
- Same for Early Access (I know some people want to wait for release).
- When you finish one (or more) of the games picked for you, please post an update by replying to your picker's comment.
- If the game has achievements, you can link to either the Steam or Astats page corresponding to your progress.
- If the game doesn't have achievements, please post a screenshot showing your completion.
- Finally, if you have completed all the games that were assigned to you but want another go at it, feel free to post another application.
Pickers’ guidelines
- You can pick for/challenge up to 2 fellow assassins, please refrain to pick more so everybody who wants get a chance at it.
- You can pick for anybody who has applied and hasn't been given a list yet, unless they specified otherwise (see next point). It is recommended to signal with a "reserved" comment that you're currently picking for that person. This way it'll avoid the situation where you spend time picking games just to come back to somebody's comment 2 minutes prior.
- Please use the following criteria when picking a list for somebody.
- Length-wise: at least 2 short games (under 10h to beat) and 2 medium (under 15-20h). You can use HLTB to check the time, or more conveniently the Enhanced Steam browser extension (it shows the HLTB time directly on the game's steam page). That rule can be overridden by the bottom (i.e. pick 5 short games) but not the other way around, as not everybody has the same time to dedicate to gaming.
- Pick two SG wins unless the person specified SG wins only, in which case pick only in the applicant's SG wins list.
- Quality-wise: at least 3 of the 5 games should have a positive (or above) rating. You can use this site to quickly sort games in a user's library by ratings (thanks to JaffaCaffa for the suggestion).
- Please, respect the applicant's choice regarding multiplayer-only and Early access games, as well as other requests (exclusion of certain genre etc.).
- Please use the code below to post your comment, it's already formatted, you just have to copy/paste & complete the data.
For Pickers. Just copy paste and complete the data :)

FAQ
Do I have to participate in this event?
No, this is an event to help you reduce your backlog. If you already have a plan and don't want anyone to pick games for you, you're free to ignore it.
What happens if I don’t participate in the event?
Absolutely nothing.
What happens if I play all the games picked for me this month?
Still nothing. (You might get a shiny profile badge at some later date. And you can come back for another batch.)
What if I don’t have time to play 5 games?
Don’t worry, one is enough, we’re just asking the pickers to select 5 to give the player a little choice.
One of the game picked for me won’t run on my computer for X or Y reason, what do I do?
If this happens, please notify the picker by replying his comment and ask them to pick a replacement. If the original picker don’t give you an answer within 24h, don’t panic, just leave a comment and we’ll pick one for you. Meanwhile, you could try one of the other picked games if you haven't played them all yet.
I played all 5 games that were picked for me and I want more!
If you have completed all 5 games and reported your completion to the original comment, you can make a new request for another list.
When picking for other people, can I only pick “never played” games?
Not necessarily, you can also pick games that seem to have been abandoned but haven’t been categorized as “won’t play”. No beaten or completed games, or games being currently played obviously.
Why are there so many rules for picking the games? I can’t be bothered!
We’re trying to make this enjoyable for everyone so if you decide to pick games for others, please read and follow the rules. I’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for the pickers too, but if it’s bothering you too much, remember you don’t need to pick games for others to join the challenge.
I’m new here, can I join the challenge?
Yes of course (and welcome to BLAEO). Please just be sure to have your games sorted by progress before signing up for the challenge, to make it easier for your picker.
Thanks for putting it up!
Once again, I need someone to help direct me through my backlog. Please treat unfinished games the same as unplayed, since I have a lot of those installed already. No special rules. Thanks!
First time picking and it is so hard to pick ‘medium length’ games! Anyway, I tried to pick a good variety of genres/settings.
- Verde Station - 1 hr - short ‘walking sim’, one of my favorites
- TIS-100 - 16-58 hrs - one of your SG wins, a programming puzzler
- Freedom Fall - 1-9 hrs - fun light platformer
- Ys Origin - 11-34 hrs - RPG, great story unique to each character, difficulty settings are serious
- The Norwood Suite - 2 hrs - one of your SG wins, surreal adventure (I haven’t played this one)
Thanks for picking! The only one I wasn’t at least vaguely familiar with is Freedom Fall. I’ll probably play Verde Station first, since it’s nice to get off to a good start, then I’ll probably start up Ys – it’s always a nice surprise to be challenged to play an RPG.
Hey, I knew this would be a problem when I entered, but I just got back from traveling for a couple of weeks. I beat Verde Station and got over halfway through Ys before leaving, and I plan to finish up these picks during this challenge period, too.
Verde Station was interesting, and I loved that 50s(?) song that played in the lounge. The game got surprisingly creepy for being so simple.
I’d like to join this time, it’s been a while. Preferably things on the shorter side (<12 hours), as I have some other stuff to play too. Pretty much anything that’s not “Won’t Play” is fair game. Thanks!
First time picking. Your never played list only had 2 SG wins and both were long, so neither are on here. Let me know if you want me to choose from your unfinished ones. Also let me know if the two longer ones are too long.
- Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons - HLTB Time: 3.5 hrs - I enjoyed the unique control scheme on this game
- F.E.A.R. - HLTB Time: 10.5 hrs - A good (if old) supernatural FPS, I thoroughly enjoyed it
- Replica - HLTB Time: 1.5 hrs - This looks interesting, let me know if it’s any good
- The Room - HLTB Time: 2.5 hrs - This one’s on my wishlist
- Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition - HLTB Time: 10.5 hrs - This also looks interesting
All good, I’m currently playing 2 SG wins as my main focus anyways. I look forward to getting to at least a couple of these, thanks so much for the picks! There’s a few on here I’ve been interested in playing the past ~7 months but never picked up, so should be a good one. :) Will let you know after I’ve finished ‘em.
Hey, update! I had a surprise procedure this month which made it so I wasn’t able to play quite as much as I’d hoped for, wasn’t in the mood for anything too intense. But I beat a couple, thanks again for picking. :D
Replica - Completed. I’ll be honest this was disappointmenting. It just wasn’t as interesting to play compared to some of the other phone sims. I knew nothing going into it, but the topic it explored is a pretty big one which I’d read/seen versions more in-depth/interesting. It’s not a bad game, but it gets repetitive and the dialogue wasn’t as great/explored as much as I would’ve hoped for. If you win it or something I’d say it’s worth playing, but otherwise would give it a pass.
The Room - Completed. I enjoyed this so much more than I was expecting! Heard it was a great mobile game, so I just assumed it was gonna play like one, but the graphics/sounds were pretty fantastic and immersive. I’ve been on a huge puzzle-Sherlocky-escape room kick lately and this definitely scratched that itch. Thanks so much for the extra push to play, been putting it off for years. :)
I started Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons but the co-op controls were pretty uncomfortable trying to share a controller (we were cramping up quickly so wasn’t worth it). Am a half hour in though and gonna focus on beating it solo this week. :)
Sorry to hear about that, hope you’re doing better. I also played the room and similarly enjoyed it. I can imagine trying Brothers with two people on the same controller wouldn’t be any fun though.
Thanks! Nice, glad you were able to pick up a copy. Am excited to try out the sequels as well.
\o/ so I have a controller again and I’m mostly free/have work but its not like school where I have homework.
I’d prefer you pick games you liked or are intrested in but anything goes
Only restriction is I dont want anything I’ve already been challenged cause I’m using this as a measure of how well I do each month.
- Styx: Master of Shadows - HLTB Time: 18 hours
- The Walking Dead: Michonne - A Telltale Miniseries - HLTB Time: 4 hours
- Hacknet - HLTB Time: 7 hours
- Prototype 2 - HLTB Time: 10 hours
- Oxygen Not Included - HLTB Time: ?
Feel free to ask for swaps for Oxygen Not Included and Styx. The former is early access and kinda endless, but it seems really cool and fun~And the latter is your unfinished game so I’m not sure if you’ll want to continue. :P
Personally interested in Styx, Prototype 2 and Oxygen Not Included. Hacknet I’ve played myself and it’s quite good. The Walking Dead I only picked cuz of SG win. :3
I accidentally pressed cancel so I had to retype all that. ;-;
I’m fine with continueing stealth sticks \o/
broke my controller back in like december and only got around to buying a new one a week ago :3 so had stopped all games that needed a controller-HLTB time is bullshit btw I’m over that and less than halfway through :thisisfine:
also fine with asphixiation the game but I tend to mark endless games as beaten pretty quick :3 (after shoving them in a special catagory)
oh nooooo
tfw I look at it and realise I’ve beath the games that wern’t gifts or wins  anyways hacknet was amusing and I liked prototype even though it was cringy.
probably will write a update when I get around to it but tldr really fun gameplay didnt care for story.
also nearly beaten TWD and been playing oxygen but I killed everyone so I’m starting a second game…it counts for the monthly wew
I’ve never done this before. I’d like to give it a try. Preferably shorter games (<12 hrs) unless you highly recommend them. I have far too many unplayed SG wins so feel free to pick more than 2. Many of my unfinished games are somewhat abandoned so you can pick from there too. Picking games you recommend is also welcome :).
I’ve never picked before so correct me if I do anything wrong!
- ABZU - HLTB Time: 2 hrs - a nice relaxing game and very pretty!
- Puzzle Agent - HLTB Time: 3 hrs - this is a fun little game if you enjoy puzzles.
- Tales from the Borderlands - HLTB Time: 10 hrs - I highly recommend this one since it’s probably Telltale’s best game.
- Mini Ninjas - HLTB Time: 8-18 hrs - I haven’t played it but it looks adorable!
- Bioshock Infinite - HLTB Time: 11 hrs - I also highly recommend this one. An FPS but with a good story.
I tried to keep it under 12 hours for you. If you don’t like any of the suggestions then i have plenty of backups!
Looks like some pretty good choices!
I’ll update this as I go.
- ABZU: completed. Awesome game! It was fun riding around on various fish.
- Puzzle Agent: I actually already played the second, so the story makes more sense now. I should know better than to try brainy games in the evening though :P
- Tales from the Borderlands: I thoroughly enjoyed this. I really hope they come out with a second season.
I haven’t done this in a while so I’m up for the challenge! I prefer shorter games to long ones, but anything is fine.
You don’t have any unplayed wins and appear to be playing the only unfinished one, so I picked others. Let me know if you want me to swap anything.
- Puzzle Agent 2 - HLTB Time: 3 hours. Nice, short game, and I see you’ve beaten the first.
- Stacking - HLTB Time: 4 hours. Someone challenged me to play this a while ago, and it was pretty fun and unique.
- Dawn’s Light - HLTB Time: Doesn’t have one for just beating it. Completionist time: 26 Hours. So, this will be the long one. If you don’t like turn-based or RPG Maker games, I will pick something else. I think this one is better than most and had a great time (both) times I’ve played it.
- Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride - HLTB Time: 4 hours. A HOG. I don’t remember much about it specifically, but I did beat it so it’s playable. A short, easy game to complete when too tired to play anything else.
- Kingsway - HLTB Time: 5. I just think this looks interesting, but have no experience with it.
Great choices, thanks! I do enjoy turn based and rpg-maker so thats a good pick for me.
Thanks again for the recs!
I beat Puzzle Agent 2, Stacking, Dawn’s Light, and Grim Legends. I loved Kingsway but it was to hard with perma-death (which I’m not a fan of) so I decided not to beat that one.
Wow, that was fast! Do you want more? I haven’t even started mine because of the newest Final Fantasy I got in the sale, plus my boyfriend bought us Elder Scrolls Online. I feel bad because one is only an hour long, and they are good picks.
Sure, I’ll take more recs. Not sure if I’ll be able to get to them but it’ll be nice to have an option.
I don’t blame you. Final Fantasy and ESO seem like addicting time sappers lol
- Cook, Serve, Delicious! - HLTB Time: 18 hours. I don’t know if you’ll beat it, because it’s the type of game you might want to play on and off. So I figured you may as well start it.
- Beyond Good and Evil - HLTB Time: 11 hours. I played this a long time ago when I was a kid and remember liking it.
- Resident Evil HD Remaster - HLTB Time: 9 hours. I noticed you have Resident Evil 0 unplayed too, so you can play that instead if you prefer to do it in that order.
- Gone In November - HLTB Time: 25 minutes. I don’t know anything about this and it has mixed reviews, but it’s so short, I figured why not get it out of your backlog.
- AER Memories of Old - HLTB Time: 2 hours. I don’t know much about this one, but it looks interesting and I got it from Humble Monthly, so it’s on my backlog too.
Thanks for taking the time to give me more! I just bought beyond good and evil today too.
I’m back again~Got 2 games done for the last one. Was quite proud since it was near my finals. This one I’ll have the start of my summer vacation to play games so you can pick a bit longer titles. :P
No multiplayer games, am fine with early access. No horror, ever.
If you want to make it easier you could look at my To Play and ABC plan lists first. :3
Gigantic backlog so thanks for digging through them!
- Cook, Serve, Delicious! -SG win- HLTB Time: 18 Hours- you don’t need to play through the whole campaign but its fun for awhile and strangely addicting.
- Evoland -gifts- HLTB Time: 3hrs-
I played the second and I see you have as well…im interested in this but haven’t gotten around to playing the first myself either so if you hit this feel free to mention if its as good as the second :3okay…ummm I’m really dumb and was looking through my own backlog instead of yours…so if you want me to change it to the second because you’ve already started feel free to mention it. - Undertale - HLTB Time: 6hrs- has a cult following and is not nearly as good as they make it out to be…but if you just play it unhyped and stuff its pretty fun.
- Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes - HLTB Time: 7 hours, SG win- point and click game :3 I remember liking it its the second in a series but uses a different character and is a completly valid standalone.
- Craft The World - HLTB Time: 40 hours but like I’d consider it endless
Evoland is fine. It’s much shorter so I think I can finish it in one setting which is better. Actually forgot to change Evoland 2 to To be continued since I uninstalled it to clear space a while ago. I feel like it dragged on for too long and I’m kinda losing the goal and where to even continue so I stopped at the time travel section. It branched out a bit too much.
Undertale I do know that it’s overhyped. The story is honestly meh imo, and I already watched through every ending possible on Youtube, and I’m not sure if I’ll like the gameplay. Bullethell never really appealed to me. It’ll probably be the on the last priority for the list but if I have time I’ll give it a try. :P It’s a shame that I know everything about it tho. I imagine I’ll probably really love the story if I were to discover it myself since I get invested in characters a lot.
I do hope that I’ll like this point and click game better than the last two I played. My biggest problem with these is when you click something you have this long waiting time for the character to get to it, especially if the game requires backtracking. :3 However they usually have quite good character building tho since there’s so much to click at and the characters will comment on them(also I’m the type that clicks on everything. xD), so that’s a plus for me~
ack if you’ve already watched undertale-and want something else feel free to mention it
as for edna and harvey its not actually the absolute best point and click game and I don’t know if it has the double click fast travel that some do…but something I enjoyed about it is its full of dark humor with the things you click on and thats entertaining and stuff.
Just finished Undertale. It was kinda alright. Although I killed two major character which might upset people. xD
Working on Cook, Serve, Delicious!. It’s so much fun! But the completionist me can’t stand a day that’s not perfect so i ended up restarting some days multiple times. lol But it didn’t annoy me since it’s all my fault, not the game’s. :3
\o/
ive beaten everything but styx
Just finished Evoland. Don’t really like it……Gonna say no now to Edna & Harvey since I’m not really up for a point and click game after the dreadful slow walking speed of Evoland. Will try to work on Craft The World next since it seems quite interesting, although no guarantees if I’ll finish it before the event end date. :P
okay \o/
Final status report since the new Challenge Me post is up. :P
Finished the first world of Craft The World! Snagged all the achievements I can get along the way and aimed for the “Professional Miner” achievement which made me cleared the entire underground clean~Super enjoyable and such an addicting game. I found myself playing it till 2 AM and not even realizing how fast time has passed. It’s super fun. :D Thanks for challenging me of this game. Although right now I’m a bit burnt out of it as with every time I munch on these types of game looks at Minecraft and since I have to restart in a new world, but I’m definitely gonna play more of it. :3
I will continue playing and maybe try to finish Cook, Serve, Delicious. But since the game kinda stresses me out when playing the progress will be slow. Although it is yet again, another addicting game. xD
See you in the next event. :3

Post here, if you have any problems
